Midnight ships with 13 classes and 39 specializations — 3 tanks, 7 healers, 29 DPS specs across melee, ranged physical, and caster. This guide is the map of the whole roster. Every spec gets a role, a one-paragraph playstyle summary, current Season 1 tier context, hero talent notes, and a direct link to its full in-depth guide on AccountShark.
How to Use This Guide
Each class section below covers its full spec lineup. Rows show the spec's role, the Midnight 2026 tier bucket (S / A / B / C), the signature Hero Talents you'll pick between, and a short description of the spec's identity. Click the spec name to open the full guide with rotation, talent tree, gear priority, utility, and Midnight-specific tuning.
If you're deciding on a main or an alt, scroll to the [Role Summary Tables](#role-tables) for the at-a-glance comparison across all tanks, all healers, and all DPS. For the short version of what's strong in the current patch, see the Spec Tier List companion article.
What "tier" means here: S-tier specs are meta — they top logs, get picked into world-first rosters, and define Mythic+ compositions. A-tier is equally viable for 99% of players; tier differences matter at the cutting edge but not at casual-to-AotC level. B-tier needs more gear or a specific comp to shine. C-tier is playable but actively penalized in high-end content. Tuning moves throughout the season, so check the linked tier list for live data.

Death Knight
Plate Strength melee. Rune and Runic Power resource economy. Undead summoning aesthetic throughout the class.
| Spec | Role | Tier | Identity |
| Blood | Tank | A | The self-healing tank. Death Strike turns incoming damage into healing, Bone Shield converts it to mitigation. Sanlayn and Deathbringer both valid — Sanlayn leans vampiric sustain, Deathbringer burst damage. The only tank that legitimately ignores healers in some M+ pulls. |
| Frost | DPS (melee) | A | Two-hander Obliteration or dual-wield Breath of Sindragosa — two completely different gameplay loops. Breath is a sustained channel build; Obliteration is Killing Machine procs into Frost Strike/Obliterate. Deathbringer or Rider of the Apocalypse for hero talent. |
| Unholy | DPS (melee) | S | Pet-army DoT melee. Festering Wound management, Apocalypse burst windows, and Army of the Dead for cooldown. Rider of the Apocalypse picks up momentum mid-patch. One of the most reliable S-tier DPS specs in Midnight Season 1. |
Demon Hunter
Leather Agility/Intellect. High mobility, self-healing through Leech stat scaling. Devourer added in Midnight — the first ever Intellect Demon Hunter spec.
| Spec | Role | Tier | Identity |
| Havoc | DPS (melee) | A | Fel Rush mobility, Eye Beam cleave, Metamorphosis burst. Aldrachi Reaver (sustained) vs Fel-Scarred (burst). Strong in AoE-heavy M+ but loses ground on pure single-target Mythic raid bosses. |
| Vengeance | Tank | A+ | Soul Fragment tank — your damage output fuels self-healing and mitigation via Fragments. Fel Devastation + Soul Carver is the primary survival rotation. Highest DPS tank in Midnight Season 1; close to Brewmaster in survivability, ahead in damage. |
| Devourer | DPS (ranged) | B | New Midnight spec — Intellect void caster at 30-yard range. Reap generator, Collapsing Star and Void Beam spenders. Void Metamorphosis replaces the traditional fury meta. First-tier spec tends to sit mid-pack until Blizzard hits the tuning sweet spot; patch-by-patch check required. |
Druid
The only four-spec class. Shapeshifting drives every rotation — cat for Feral, bear for Guardian, moonkin for Balance, tree for Restoration.
| Spec | Role | Tier | Identity |
| Balance | DPS (caster) | A | Eclipse alternation between Solar and Lunar. Multi-DoT AoE profile shines on dungeon pull sizes. Elune's Chosen and Keeper of the Grove — Keeper meta for M+ due to Grove Guardians. |
| Feral | DPS (melee) | B | Bleed manager. Rake, Rip, Thrash stacking into Ferocious Bite or Primal Wrath spenders inside Tiger's Fury windows. High skill ceiling, mediocre current tuning — always a pocket pick on execute-heavy fights. |
| Guardian | Tank | B | Passive mitigation through Ironfur stacks plus Frenzied Regeneration recovery. Moderate damage output. Druid of the Claw or Wildpower — Wildpower edges ahead for multi-target M+ pulls. |
| Restoration | Healer | S | HoT healer with the deepest mana longevity in the game. Lifebloom, Rejuvenation, Wild Growth ramping into Flourish burst. Keeper of the Grove is the de facto meta hero talent pick; Wildstalker plays better in raid progression. |
Evoker
Mail-wearing caster, exclusive to the Dracthyr race. 30-yard range is the shortest of any caster class. Hover replaces mount-speed ground movement.
| Spec | Role | Tier | Identity |
| Devastation | DPS (caster) | B+ | Empower spells (Fire Breath, Eternity Surge) charged at 3 tiers. Living Flame / Azure Strike filler. Scalecommander or Flameshaper — Flameshaper now leads after Midnight tuning passes. Dragonrage is the burst window. |
| Preservation | Healer | A | Dreambreath, Reversion, Echo buffed spells. Niche smooth-damage-profile healer that excels on static positional raid fights. Flameshaper or Chronowarden. |
| Augmentation | DPS (support) | S | The only support spec. Augment's own damage is low but Ebon Might, Prescience, and Breath of Eons buff two party members to top-of-meter numbers. Meta for both progression raid and high-end M+ keys. |
Hunter
Mail Agility physical ranged DPS. All three specs carry Bloodlust via Primal Rage, and all can Feign Death out of mechanics.
| Spec | Role | Tier | Identity |
| Beast Mastery | DPS (ranged) | A | Pet-driven. Kill Command on cooldown, Barbed Shot for Frenzy uptime, Bestial Wrath burst window. Only spec that casts everything on the move — Midnight's high-movement fights favor it. Pack Leader or Dark Ranger. |
| Marksmanship | DPS (ranged) | A | Reworked pre-Midnight — pet was removed entirely. Aimed Shot + Rapid Fire pure ranged profile. Sentinel or Dark Ranger for hero — Sentinel the consistent meta pick. |
| Survival | DPS (melee) | B | Melee-range hunter with bleeds and bombs. Kill Command resets the rotation, Wildfire Bomb AoE, Mongoose Bite spender. Niche pick but brings Tranquilizing Shot + Misdirect to melee positioning. |
Mage
Cloth Intellect caster. Teleport + Portal utility, Alter Time for encounter cheese. Three starkly different rotational identities.
| Spec | Role | Tier | Identity |
| Arcane | DPS (caster) | A | Mana as a mechanic, not a resource. Build Arcane Charges → dump into Arcane Barrage + Touch of the Magi. Sunfury vs Spellslinger — Spellslinger for AoE M+, Sunfury for single target raid. |
| Fire | DPS (caster) | A | Burst-window spec built around Combustion. Hot Streak procs fire off Pyroblast casts inside the window. Sunfury or Frostfire for hero — both playable; Frostfire adds Frostbolt to the rotation for flavor and slow utility. |
| Frost | DPS (caster) | B+ | Frostbolt → Fingers of Frost → Ice Lance rhythm. Flurry generates Brain Freeze procs for Frostfire Bolt. Spellslinger or Frostfire — Frostfire lets Frost act more like Fire with crit-chain Ice Lances. |
Monk
Leather Agility/Intellect hybrid. Brings Mystic Touch (passive 5% physical damage taken to target) — one of the most valuable group buffs.
| Spec | Role | Tier | Identity |
| Brewmaster | Tank | S | Stagger converts burst damage into manageable DoTs. Baseline magic mitigation added in Midnight. Shado-Pan (M+ pick) vs Master of Harmony (raid pick). The smoothest damage-intake tank in the game. |
| Mistweaver | Healer | S | Fistweaver playstyle — deal melee damage, heal the party through Mastery. Soothing Mist / Vivify / Envelop for traditional healing. Conduit of the Celestials is the current meta hero talent. |
| Windwalker | DPS (melee) | A | Chi economy. Tiger Palm → Rising Sun Kick / Blackout Kick / Fists of Fury spenders. Shado-Pan or Conduit of the Celestials. Very cooldown-driven — Xuen and Storm, Earth, and Fire are the burst windows. |
Paladin
Plate hybrid with the deepest utility kit in the game. Blessing of Freedom, Sacrifice, Protection, and Lay on Hands define the bring.
| Spec | Role | Tier | Identity |
| Holy | Healer | A | Holy Power spender healer. Glimmer of Light seeds Holy Shock heals across the raid. Herald of the Sun (burst) vs Lightsmith (utility). Exceptional tank healing. |
| Protection | Tank | A+ | Shield block tank. Shield of the Righteous + Word of Glory for active mitigation. Templar hero talent for single target, Lightsmith for group utility. Easiest tank to learn, still scales to the highest keys. |
| Retribution | DPS (melee) | A | Two-handed Holy Power spender. Wake of Ashes + Templar's Verdict burst windows. Templar (sustained) vs Herald of the Sun (crit burst). Strong on-demand damage with Divine Toll. |
Priest
Cloth Intellect. The only two-healer class. Mass Dispel, Leap of Faith, Power Infusion, Power Word: Barrier define the group-utility floor.
| Spec | Role | Tier | Identity |
| Discipline | Healer | S | Damage-into-healing conversion via Atonement. Smite and Shadow Word: Pain apply the buff to allies; DPS abilities heal through it. Oracle is the meta hero talent pick — Archon is the progression-raid alternative. |
| Holy | Healer | A | Pure throughput healer. Prayer of Mending bounces, Renew HoTs, Holy Words for cooldown pressure. Archon or Oracle — both playable. High ceiling for a skilled Holy Priest. |
| Shadow | DPS (caster) | A | Insanity economy. Shadow Word: Pain / Vampiric Touch DoTs into Devouring Plague spenders. Voidweaver (sustained) vs Archon (burst). Mindbender is a permanent rotational pet. |
Rogue
Leather melee Agility. Stealth utility defines the class — Shroud of Concealment for skips, Tricks of the Trade for threat, Vanish as a reset button.
| Spec | Role | Tier | Identity |
| Assassination | DPS (melee) | A+ | Bleed stacker. Garrote, Rupture, Crimson Tempest with Deathmark as the window. Deathstalker or Fatebound. Best M+ single-target-priority DPS and highest-ceiling rogue spec. |
| Outlaw | DPS (melee) | A | Roll the Bones RNG buffs define the pace. Sinister Strike / Ambush generators, Between the Eyes / Dispatch spenders. Trickster (mobility + M+) vs Fatebound (consistency). Highest AoE output of the rogue specs. |
| Subtlety | DPS (melee) | B+ | Stealth-window burst spec. Shadow Dance and Shuriken Tornado open burst with Shadowstrike procs into Eviscerate spenders. Deathstalker or Trickster. Strong burst on-demand, lower sustained numbers. |
Shaman
Mail hybrid. Bloodlust / Heroism is the shaman-originated raid-wide haste — still the benchmark group buff. Totems layer interrupts, dispels, and group defensives.
| Spec | Role | Tier | Identity |
| Elemental | DPS (caster) | A | Maelstrom generator / spender. Lava Burst + Earth Shock / Earthquake. Stormbringer for burst M+, Farseer for sustained raid damage. |
| Enhancement | DPS (melee) | A+ | Maelstrom Weapon stack manager. Stormstrike / Lava Lash melee baseline, Lightning Bolt / Chain Lightning spell casts through Maelstrom. Totemic (M+) vs Stormbringer (raid). Top-5 melee DPS in Midnight. |
| Restoration | Healer | A | Riptide + Chain Heal. Healing Stream Totem + Mana Tide Totem baseline. Spirit Link Totem is one of the best raid cooldowns in the game. Farseer vs Totemic. |
Warlock
Cloth Intellect ranged DPS. Soulstone combat-res, Healthstones for stamina group heal, Demonic Gateway for skips and safety.
| Spec | Role | Tier | Identity |
| Affliction | DPS (caster) | B+ | DoT stacker — Agony, Corruption, Unstable Affliction — built into Malefic Rapture spenders. Soul Harvester for burst, Hellcaller for sustained pressure. |
| Demonology | DPS (caster) | A | Army-of-pets caster. Wild Imps summoned from Hand of Gul'dan, Demonic Tyrant burst window. Diabolist (burst) vs Soul Harvester (sustained). High pet management ceiling. |
| Destruction | DPS (caster) | A | Soul Shard generator + Chaos Bolt. Incinerate / Conflagrate / Immolate baseline, Rain of Fire for AoE shard generation. Diabolist or Hellcaller. Best-in-class AoE cleave via Havoc. |
Warrior
Plate Strength melee. Rallying Cry + Battle Shout are raid-wide cooldowns. Three specs cover single-target, cleave, and tanking — no support/healing option.
| Spec | Role | Tier | Identity |
| Arms | DPS (melee) | A | Two-hander single-target Mortal Strike + Overpower. Colossus Smash window amplifies Execute range. Slayer (consistent) vs Colossus (nuke) — Slayer is the current meta. |
| Fury | DPS (melee) | A+ | Dual-wield Bloodthirst + Rampage. Enrage uptime defines the spec — let Enrage drop and DPS cratering. Slayer or Mountain Thane — Mountain Thane strong in raid, Slayer in M+. |
| Protection | Tank | A | Shield Slam + Thunder Clap generators, Ignore Pain absorption + Shield Block active mitigation. Colossus or Mountain Thane — Colossus for single target, Mountain Thane for multi-target M+ damage. |

The Hero Talent System in Midnight
Hero Talents are a third talent layer introduced in War Within and iterated on in Midnight. Every class gets 3 Hero trees; each spec picks 1 of 2 flavors that apply to it. Hero Talents introduce a 10-point path that reshapes how abilities interact — not just a passive buff, but changes to which buttons you press and when.
Pick philosophy: One hero talent usually leans toward single-target sustained damage (raid-friendly), the other leans toward multi-target burst (M+-friendly). Apex Talents — the 10-point capstone — are what define the build's identity. Read the linked spec guide for the current meta pick in your content.
Hero talent deep-dives are inside each spec's guide. The tier-list article summarizes the meta picks across all 39 specs in one place.
Apex Talents — Midnight's New Spec-Defining Picks
Midnight's 4-point Specialization talent additions culminate in a new Apex Talent per spec — one big identity-defining node at the bottom of each spec's tree. Apex Talents are what make a Midnight spec play differently from its War Within version:
- Augmentation Evoker: Dream of Spring — empowers Ebon Might timing windows
- Devastation Evoker: Scorching Obsidian — rewards holding Empower spells
- Brewmaster Monk: Bring Me Another — Empty Barrels generate off brew abilities and synergize with cooldowns
- Havoc Demon Hunter: Eye of the Abyss — Eye Beam interaction rework
- Devourer Demon Hunter: Midnight — Collapsing Star always crits
- Retribution Paladin: Searing Light — Wake of Ashes chain burst
- Fire Mage: Igniting Cascade — Combustion stacks during window
Each spec guide lists the Apex Talent and how it reshapes the rotation.
Which Spec Should I Play?
I want to tank progression raid→ Brewmaster Monk for smoothest damage intake, or Vengeance DH if you want highest damage + solid survivability.
I want the highest-ceiling healer→ Discipline Priest — damage-into-healing conversion takes the longest to master but has the highest ceiling. Raids with predictable damage patterns reward Disc mastery.
I want to solo old content / Delves→ Blood DK (heals through anything), Beast Mastery Hunter (pet tank), or Vengeance DH (huge self-sustain).
Frequently Asked Questions
How many total specs are there in WoW Midnight?
Thirty-nine specializations across 13 classes, after the Devourer Demon Hunter spec was introduced in Midnight. Three are tanks (Blood DK, Guardian Druid, Brewmaster Monk, Protection Paladin, Protection Warrior, Vengeance DH — actually six tanks), seven are healers (Resto Druid, Preservation Evoker, Holy Paladin, Mistweaver Monk, Holy Priest, Discipline Priest, Restoration Shaman), and the remaining twenty-six are damage specs. Augmentation is a unique category — a damage spec whose output is mostly buffing two party members rather than doing its own damage.
What is the best DPS spec in Midnight Season 1?
As of the current tuning window, Augmentation Evoker is the highest-value DPS pick for any organized raid or high-end M+ group because it lifts two teammates into the top of the meter. Outside Augmentation, Unholy Death Knight, Enhancement Shaman, Assassination Rogue, and Fury Warrior (Slayer variant) share top-tier sustained DPS performance. Tuning shifts throughout the patch — check the
live DPS rankings article for current logs-based data.
Which tank is best for Mythic+ pushing in Midnight?
Brewmaster Monk sits alone at S-tier for M+ pushing due to Stagger smoothing damage into DoTs — healers describe it as the least stressful tank to heal. Vengeance Demon Hunter is a close second with higher DPS output. Protection Paladin is the easiest tank to learn and play well, and still keystones to high levels with the right comp. Guardian Druid is the only tank currently in the weaker tier, mostly due to damage output rather than survivability.
Which healer is best for raid progression?
Restoration Druid's HoT blanket excels on mythic raid damage profiles, and Discipline Priest's damage-into-healing conversion is exceptional when your comp can pre-stack Atonement before predictable damage windows. Mistweaver Monk took a big step up in Midnight — the Conduit of the Celestials hero talent tree reshaped the spec toward consistent throughput. For most AotC-level progression groups, any of the top three healers is fine.
Does the Devourer Demon Hunter spec replace Havoc?
No. Devourer is a third Demon Hunter spec added in Midnight — it does not replace Havoc or Vengeance. Demon Hunter now has three specs total (Havoc melee, Vengeance tank, Devourer ranged caster). Void Elves were also given access to Demon Hunter specifically to play Devourer; they cannot currently roll Havoc or Vengeance.
How long does leveling 80–90 take for a new character?
Roughly 6–10 hours using the Midnight campaign quest chain with full rested XP, or around 12–16 hours without. See the
Midnight leveling guide for the exact XP totals (4,963,065 total) and zone order.
What's the best class for alt-friendly gameplay?
Monk (covers tank, healer, and melee DPS across one character via dual specs), Druid (four specs — only class that can be every role), and Paladin (tank, healer, DPS). These classes get the most value from the Warband shared-currency and warbound gear systems because a single character can flex into three roles depending on need.
Should I pick my main based on class fantasy or on tier list?
Pick on class fantasy. Tier lists shift across patches — a S-tier spec this quarter can drop to B-tier with a hotfix — but class identity (mount collection, racial fantasy, toolkit feel) doesn't change. If you enjoy the class you'll play better and longer. Every spec in Midnight is at minimum raid-viable, so "the best spec" is whatever you're happy logging into.
