How Do Unholy's Runes and Runic Power Work?
Unholy uses two parallel resources. The dance: spend Runes on damage → generate Runic Power → spend Runic Power before it caps. Repeat.

Six runes recharge over time. Spent on damage abilities: Festering Strike, Scourge Strike, Death and Decay. Never sit at 6 — you're losing regeneration.
Runic Power
Generated by spending Runes. Capped at 125 — spend Death Coil or Epidemic before it overcaps. Every missed 40 RP is a wasted Death Coil.

The single rule that defines Unholy parses: Always align Apocalypse with Dark Transformation. The 4 army ghouls from Apocalypse are amplified by Dark Transformation's pet-damage buff, producing a ~20-second window where your single-target damage triples.

The quick pick: Deathbringer for M+ pushing and raid progression — the 1.5-minute burst alignment is cleaner for both environments. San'layn is the specialty pick when you're running sustained-damage M+ pulls and the DoT scaling has time to compound.
