This is a two-post reset. On Friday, October 2, community manager Linxy posted Incoming Class Tuning: October 6 on the official forums, a short PvE pass aimed at six specs plus a long PvP talent list. Then on Monday evening, October 5, a second post landed: Incoming Ula'tek Raid Encounter Tuning, with across-the-board Heroic and Mythic nerfs to the final boss of The Venomous Abyss. Icy Veins flagged both in its weekly hotfix summary, calling them "two tuning passes coming today and tomorrow."
Both arrive with scheduled weekly maintenance on October 6, and both matter for the same reason: Patch 12.1.5 goes live October 13, which means whatever balance state you see tonight is very likely the one you will be raiding and pushing keys on when The Unbinding of Kith'ix opens. If you are planning that week, our 12.1.5 October 13 prep checklist covers Orin's Voidcore chain and what unlocks on patch day.
All patch text below is quoted or paraphrased from Blizzard's US class tuning post, the US Ula'tek tuning post, and the official Hotfixes: October 1, 2026 page on Blizzard News. The analysis is ours. We have not run sims on these numbers, so where we talk about impact, it is directional, not a DPS percentage.
When Do the October 6 Changes Go Live?
| Blizzard post | Posted (US forum) | Goes live |
|---|---|---|
| Incoming Class Tuning: October 6 | Fri Oct 2, 5:37 p.m. CT | Oct 6 weekly maintenance |
| Incoming Ula'tek Raid Encounter Tuning: October 6 | Mon Oct 5, 9:44 p.m. CT | Oct 6 weekly maintenance |
| Hotfixes: September 29 and October 1 | Blizzard News hotfix page | Already live |
| Patch 12.1.5 | Blizzard News | Oct 13 |
The EU versions of both posts were published at almost the same moment and also list weekly maintenance on 6 October, so European raiders should not expect a one-day head start on the old tuning. If you raid Tuesday night in either region, you are raiding on the new numbers.
PvE Class Changes, Spec by Spec
The PvE half of the class post is short. Six specs, one nerf, five buffs. Nearly every buff line carries the tag "Does not affect PvP combat," which tells you Blizzard is targeting raid and Mythic+ performance specifically.
Unholy Death Knight: Blightfall nerf
Developers' notes: "A recent bug fix resulted in Blightfall dealing significantly more damage than we expected. Alongside this tuning change, we're also making sure the damage is represented accurately when an Augmentation Evoker is present in the group."
- Blightfall now deals 100% of the remaining plague damage (was 200%).
- Resolved an issue causing Augmentation Evoker Reattribution damage from plague erupt effects to be attributed to the Death Knight.
| Date | Change |
|---|---|
| Sept 22 tuning | Blightfall raised to 200% of remaining plague damage (was 100%), to bring the build "back to where it was prior to the bug fixes that made it no longer viable" |
| Sept 23 hotfix | Fixed Blightfall doing less damage the longer the plague had been on the target |
| Oct 6 tuning | Back to 100%, because the 200% multiplier plus the fix overshot |
So in plain terms: Blizzard doubled the multiplier to compensate for a bug, then fixed the bug, and the combination was far stronger than intended. Today's change removes the compensation. Unholy players running Blightfall should expect a real drop from what they saw over the last two weeks, but not a return to the broken state from before September 22, since the aging bug stays fixed. We covered that fix in detail in our September 23 hotfix breakdown.
The Augmentation line matters more than it looks. If your logs showed Unholy damage inflated in groups with an Augmentation Evoker, part of that was Reattribution damage being credited to the Death Knight. After the fix, Unholy parses with an Aug in the group should read lower, and the Evoker should get the credit. Keep that in mind before you panic over the first week of logs.
Devourer Demon Hunter: single target buffs
Developers' notes: "Many of Devourer's single target damage sources are receiving buffs that will match their output more closely with our expectations."
- Consume/Devour damage increased by 8%.
- Reap/Cull damage increased by 8%.
- Eradicate primary target damage increased by 8%.
- Collapsing Star primary target damage increased by 8%.
- The Hunt initial damage increased by 10%.
- Voidblade damage increased by 10%.
- None of these affect PvP combat.
Brewmaster Monk: dungeon durability
Developers' notes: "We're finding Brewmasters' death rates in dungeons is higher than we'd like, so we're adjusting some rotational sources of damage reduction to help improve baseline durability."
- Quick Sip now purifies 8% of current Stagger each time you gain 3 seconds of Stagger duration (was 5%).
- Pretense of Instability grants 10% dodge for 8 seconds after drinking a Brew (was 5 seconds).
Mistweaver Monk: raid healing
Developers' notes: "We're making a few raid focused adjustments to Mistweaver with the aim of increasing their overall performance in that content."
- Invigorating Mists healing increased by 15%.
- Enveloping Mist healing increased by 15% (does not apply in PvP).
Subtlety Rogue (Trickster): closing the gap
Developers' notes: "We're buffing Trickster for Subtlety to reduce the performance gap between it and Deathstalker. We want Trickster to be a more viable alternative for players who prefer its gameplay and thematic identity."
- Fazed now causes enemies to take 7% more damage (was 5%).
- Unseen Blade damage increased by 15%.
- Coup de Grace damage increased by 10%.
- None affect PvP combat.
Enhancement Shaman: across the board
Developers' notes: "We're aiming to increase Enhancement Shaman's throughput all around as they have been underperforming this season, while additionally increasing Lava Lash's contribution to its overall breakdown."
- All ability and auto-attack damage increased by 4%.
- Lava Lash damage increased by 35%.
- Neither affects PvP combat.
PvP Talent Buffs
Developers' notes: "With this pass, we're buffing several underperforming PvP Talents to increase your breadth of options as you play."
The PvP list is long, and almost all of it is buffs to talents most people were not taking. The highlights:
Tank Focused Assault talents
These affect Death Knight's Murderous Intent, Demon Hunter's Tormentor, Druid's Alpha Challenge, Monk's Admonishment, Paladin's Inquisition and Warrior's Oppressor:
- Focused Assault now stacks to 6 times (was 5).

- Warrior: Dragon Charge damage +300%.
The Ula'tek Nerfs: What Changed
Now the raid side. Ula'tek, the last boss of The Venomous Abyss, has been patched repeatedly since the raid opened: Heroic Blight Vein and Spectral Coils adjustments in August, Mythic Blight Vein and Soul Constrictor changes on September 2, a big Raid Finder and Mythic add package on September 15, a 40% Stone Venom cut on all difficulties on September 22 (see our Sept 22 reset guide), and two bug fixes in the past week. The October 6 post is the largest single Heroic and Mythic pass so far.
Here is the full official list:
All stages
- Spectral Coils damage reduced by 20% on Heroic and Mythic.
Stage 2
- Warden's Protection damage reduced by 80%.
- Reduced the number of ground targets during Virulent Spit.
- Grasping Fangs periodic damage reduced by 30% on Heroic and Mythic.
- Blight Vein duration reduced to 4 seconds on Heroic and Mythic (was 6).
Stage 3
- Blightscale Shrieker health reduced by 20% on Heroic and Mythic.
- Blightscale Clutch health reduced by 20% on Heroic and Mythic.
- Slithering Clutch health reduced by 20% on Mythic.
- Circling Prey raid damage reduced by 30% on Heroic and Mythic.
- Adjusted the drain rate of Serpent's Bite so you no longer need more than 3 people to soak, regardless of raid size.
- Toxic Burn damage reduced by 30% on Mythic.
- Caustic Waves now emit 3 waves per tail on Mythic (was 7).
What this means for your pulls
Stage 2 should feel much more forgiving. An 80% cut to Warden's Protection basically removes it as a damage threat, and cutting Blight Vein from 6 to 4 seconds means a third less time for that debuff to tick. Combined with weaker Grasping Fangs and fewer Virulent Spit ground targets, healers should have a lot more breathing room in the middle of the fight.
Stage 3 is now a shorter, lower-damage phase. Taking 20% off the health of the add types in Stage 3 means faster kills and less overlap, and Circling Prey hitting 30% softer reduces the raid-wide pressure while you deal with them. The Serpent's Bite change is a quality-of-life fix with real impact: in a large Heroic raid you were previously sending more soakers, and now three is enough regardless of size. That frees bodies for other jobs.
Mythic gets the biggest movement change. Going from 7 tail waves to 3 during Caustic Waves is a huge reduction in how much dodging the raid has to do, and Toxic Burn is down 30% on top of that. Guilds that were losing players to wave overlap in the final phase should see that problem shrink dramatically.
Raid Finder and Normal are not in this post. Every line is tagged Heroic, Mythic, or both, except Warden's Protection and Virulent Spit, which have no difficulty tag. If you only run LFR, the earlier September 15 package is still the main set of changes you will notice.
The reaction
The forum thread filled up quickly. Several players asked why The Coiled Altar, the boss before Ula'tek, did not get nerfs in the same post, arguing it is now the harder Mythic wall. Others said the cuts were too big for this point in the season. One poster summed up the practical side: "Every guild progging Ula'tek is asking their members if they can raid tomorrow." Blizzard has not responded in the thread at the time of writing, and there is no Coiled Altar tuning in either post.
If your group has been stuck on Heroic Ula'tek, tonight is a good night to schedule an extra attempt. If you just want Ahead of the Curve without spending several progression nights on it, a Heroic Ula'tek boost through AccountShark's WoW boost listings is another option now that the fight is easier to schedule.
Hotfix Context: September 28 to October 5
The week leading into this reset was quiet, but a few changes from Blizzard's hotfix page are worth knowing because they are already live and affect how you read tonight's logs.
Classes (October 1)
- Feral Druid: Fixed an issue that could cause Rampant Ferocity to trigger incorrectly against a single target. If your Feral single target numbers looked a little high last week, this is likely why they look different now.
- Survival Hunter: Wildfire Bomb's periodic damage increased by 20%. Blizzard's note: "The tuning hotfix from the week of September 22 did not properly increase the periodic damage of an untalented variant of Wildfire Bomb. This hotfix corrects that issue." In other words, this completes the September 22 Survival change rather than being a new buff.
Ula'tek fixes (September 29 and October 1)
- Fixed an issue where the Venomous Heart would sometimes melee a player.
- Fixed an issue with Mother's Wrath where it could be cast at a target that is not the current target, if a non-target had higher threat but had not passed the threshold to force a target change.
Brewfest
- Items from Coren Direbrew now have their required level set to the player who receives the item. You can still trade them, but lower level players have to reach the required level to equip them.
What This Means Before 12.1.5 on October 13
With 12.1.5 a week away, this reset sets the stage for the rest of the season's first half. A few practical takeaways:
- Raid groups: If Ula'tek has been your wall on Heroic, this is the week to push. Next week brings The Unbinding of Kith'ix, and most guilds will want to have The Venomous Abyss finished before attention shifts.
- Mythic+ tanks: Brewmaster gets real dungeon durability help. Combined with the September 22 Protection Paladin buffs, the tank pool for keys should feel a little wider.
- Healers: Mistweaver's raid package is the only healer PvE change this week, so other healers can keep their current setups.
- DPS: Enhancement, Devourer and Trickster Subtlety are the clear winners. Unholy Blightfall players take the hit, but the spec's other tools from September 22 (Scourging and San'layn buffs) are untouched.
- Alts and catch-up: Our Season 2 Mythic+ dungeons guide and Venomous Abyss raid guide are still accurate for routes and rewards.
Reset Night Checklist
- Re-check your sim or talent build if you play Unholy, Devourer, Brewmaster, Mistweaver, Trickster Subtlety or Enhancement.
- Update your raid notes for Ula'tek: three Serpent's Bite soakers is now enough, and Mythic Caustic Waves are three per tail.
- Rethink healing cooldown plans for Stage 2 now that Warden's Protection and Blight Vein are weaker.
- Compare Unholy logs carefully if you raid with an Augmentation Evoker, since Reattribution damage is no longer credited to the Death Knight.
- PvP tanks: try your Focused Assault talent again in battlegrounds.
- Resto Shaman PvPers: expect Earth Shield to matter more, for you and for enemy dispellers.
Frequently Asked Questions
When does the WoW class tuning for October 6 go live?
Blizzard's posts say the class tuning and the Ula'tek changes arrive with scheduled weekly maintenance on October 6. The US and EU forum posts both list October 6. Once realms come back up after maintenance, the new numbers are live.
Why did Unholy Death Knight get nerfed?
Blizzard said "a recent bug fix resulted in Blightfall dealing significantly more damage than we expected." On September 22 Blightfall was raised to 200% of remaining plague damage to compensate for a bug, and on September 23 the bug was fixed. The combination overshot, so Blightfall is now back to 100%. Blizzard also fixed Augmentation Evoker Reattribution damage being credited to the Death Knight.
Which specs were buffed in the October 6 tuning?
In PvE, Devourer Demon Hunter, Brewmaster Monk, Mistweaver Monk, Trickster Subtlety Rogue and Enhancement Shaman were buffed. In PvP, a long list of underused PvP talents across every class was buffed, including tank Focused Assault talents.
How much was Enhancement Shaman buffed?
All Enhancement ability and auto-attack damage increased by 4%, and Lava Lash damage increased by 35%. Neither change affects PvP combat. Blizzard said Enhancement has been underperforming this season and wants Lava Lash to make up more of the spec's damage.
What are the Ula'tek nerfs on October 6?
Spectral Coils damage is down 20% on Heroic and Mythic. In Stage 2, Warden's Protection is down 80%, Virulent Spit has fewer ground targets, Grasping Fangs is down 30%, and Blight Vein lasts 4 seconds instead of 6. In Stage 3, three add types have 20% less health, Circling Prey is down 30%, Serpent's Bite needs at most 3 soakers, and on Mythic Toxic Burn is down 30% and Caustic Waves drop from 7 waves per tail to 3.
Did Ula'tek get nerfed on Normal and Raid Finder?
This post focuses on Heroic and Mythic. Most lines are tagged for those difficulties, with Warden's Protection and Virulent Spit carrying no difficulty tag. Raid Finder got its own Ula'tek changes on September 15, and Stone Venom was cut 40% on all difficulties on September 22.
Was The Coiled Altar nerfed too?
No. Neither October 6 post includes changes to The Coiled Altar, even though many players in the forum thread asked for them. Blizzard had not commented on that in the thread at the time of writing.
What did the October 1 WoW hotfixes change?
The October 1 hotfixes fixed Feral's Rampant Ferocity triggering incorrectly on a single target, increased Survival Hunter Wildfire Bomb periodic damage by 20% to correct the September 22 change, and fixed Ula'tek's Venomous Heart sometimes meleeing a player. A September 29 fix corrected Mother's Wrath targeting and set Coren Direbrew drop level requirements to the receiving player.
When is WoW patch 12.1.5?
Blizzard has confirmed patch 12.1.5 goes live on October 13, 2026, with The Unbinding of Kith'ix, the Labyrinth of Kindo'jan, and the Season 2 mid-season refresh.
Final Word
This reset is small on the class side and big on the raid side. Six specs get targeted PvE adjustments, one of them a correction rather than a real nerf, and PvP players get a broad set of talent buffs to play with. Ula'tek, meanwhile, just became a much more approachable final boss on Heroic and Mythic one week before 12.1.5 shifts everyone's attention to Kith'ix. If you have been one or two good pulls away, tonight is the night to go get it. For the full background on the previous pass, see our September 22 class tuning guide.
