WoW Class Tuning September 22 Guide: Spec Buffs, Hero Talents & PvP Changes (Midnight)
CLASS TUNING SEPT 22 · Quick Answer
Goes live: Weekly reset Tue Sept 22, 2026 (US)
Scope: 23 PvE specs + large PvP list
Goal: Buff low performers in M+, Raid, PvP
Hero focus: Aldrachi, Templar, Trickster, Mountain Thane, San’layn
Big PvE winners: Aug, Disc M+, Frost/UH DK, WW, MM
Primary source: Linxy US forums Sept 18

Blizzard’s next Midnight class tuning pass lands with weekly reset on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 in the Americas. Community Manager Linxy posted the full list on September 18: a broad low-performer pass across Mythic+, raid, and PvP, plus a deliberate shove at hero talent gaps so second-tree options feel less like grief picks.

If you are mid-keys, mid-raid progression, or climbing arenas, this is the week to re-check your hero talent page before you lock a weekly vault plan. A lot of the numbers look small in isolation. Stacked across a kit, they change which tree you actually queue.

Source status (Sep 20, 2026 CT): Numbers below follow Linxy’s Class Tuning Incoming - September 22 US forum post (Sept 18, 2026) and the Icy Veins summary. Live hotfixes can still layer on top after reset; treat this as the announced weekly package, not a guarantee against midweek patches.

When does the September 22 Midnight class tuning go live?

US realms get the package with the normal Tuesday weekly reset on September 22, 2026. That is the same reset that flips your Mythic+ affix week, raid lockouts, and vault options, so plan character swaps before you burn Wednesday night on a tree you are about to abandon.

Linxy’s framing is straightforward: buff specs that are underperforming across M+, raid, and PvP, and close some hero talent disparity so more builds stay competitive. This is not a full class redesign week. It is a numbers week with a few structural dungeon-facing fixes (Discipline Atonement is the clearest example).

For season context on where these numbers land in the broader Midnight ladder, keep the Midnight Season 2 raid and rewards guide and the Midnight spec tier list bookmarked after reset logs start rolling in.

What are the biggest PvE takeaways before you respec?

Read the full class sections below for exact percentages. If you only have five minutes before reset, prioritize these:

  • Augmentation Evoker gets huge personal damage buffs (Fire Breath +60%, Blistering Scales +100%, Upheaval +40%, Eruption +15%). Support stays support, but the personal side of the meter looks very different.
  • Discipline Priest finally gets a dungeon-facing Atonement bump: +40% Atonement healing when you are not in a raid or battleground, the old PvP Atonement bonus goes away, and Penance costs 20% less mana.
  • Blood Death Knight takes a -6% aura cut aimed at San’layn AoE, then gets a Death Strike +25% and Deadly Reach cleave cut (60%, was 75%), plus a Deathbringer package meant to leave Deathbringer slightly ahead.
  • Frost and Unholy DK, Devastation M+, Marksmanship, Fire/Frost Mage M+, Mistweaver, Windwalker, Protection Paladin, Ret Templar, Shadow ST, Subtlety Trickster, and Mountain Thane Warriors all get meaningful PvE love.
  • Many of the strongest damage buffs are tagged does not affect PvP. Always check that line before you celebrate in arenas.

Death Knight: Blood rebalance, Frost ST, Unholy raid tools

Blood

Developers say San’layn AoE has been too high for a tank target, while Blood single target sits low. The package:

  • All ability and minion damage -6%
  • Death Strike damage +25%
  • Deadly Reach cleave on Death Strike 60% (was 75%) to two nearby enemies
  • Deathbringer offsets: Exterminate +25%, Reaper’s Mark +20%, Wave of Souls +20%, Bind in Darkness Blood Boil 50% (was 30%), Deathly Blows Death Strike 20% (was 12%), Swift and Painful Strength 15% (was 10%)
Net read: San’layn gets pulled down on wide pulls; Deathbringer is meant to be a small net positive on both AoE and ST after the aura cut. If you were living on San’layn AoE farm, expect a feel change even if your survival kit still works.

Frost

Frost gets a clean PvE ST and two-target push:

  • Frostreaper +100% (no PvP)
  • Obliterate +10% (no PvP)
That is aimed at the ST and cleave hole Linxy called out. Arena Frost does not ride these two lines.

Unholy

Raid-facing Unholy tools get restored after Blightfall bug fallout, plus San’layn throughput:

  • Scourging eruptions 65%/100% (was 50%/70%), no PvP
  • Blightfall 200% of remaining plague damage (was 100%), no PvP
  • San’layn Infliction of Sorrow 75% (was 30%)
  • Thrill of Blood Dread Plague 20% (was 10%)
  • Frenzied Bloodthirst +5% per stack on Death Coil and Death Strike
If you dropped Blightfall after the earlier bug fixes, this is the week to sim it again for raid.

Demon Hunter: Devourer ST and Aldrachi Reaver catch-up

Devourer

Annihilator-leaning raid ST gets:

  • Collapsing Star primary target +25% (no PvP)
  • Consume / Devour +8% (no PvP)

Havoc and Vengeance Aldrachi Reaver

Aldrachi has been trailing its sibling trees. Shared and spec-specific bumps:

  • Art of the Glaive enhanced strikes 15%/30% (was 10%/20%) on both specs
  • Reaver’s Glaive +25% Havoc / +30% Vengeance
  • Reaver’s Mark 7% Havoc / 8% Vengeance
  • Havoc Broken Spirit soul fragment chance 20% (was 15%)
Havoc players should notice the Fury cycle tighten a bit from the Broken Spirit soul frag bump, not just the raw glaive damage.

Druid: Wildstalker damage, Resto heal aura, Photosynthesis fix

  • Wildstalker Bursting Growth +15% (no PvP)
  • Feral Patient Custodian bleed 10% (was 8%), no PvP
  • Restoration all healing +4% (no PvP)
  • Photosynthesis no longer incorrectly triggers from other players’ HoTs
Resto’s aura is PvE-only. The Photosynthesis fix matters more than the percentage if you were getting weird proc behavior in group content.

Evoker: Augmentation personal damage and Devastation M+ AoE

Augmentation

Linxy calls these underrepresented pieces of Aug’s personal kit:

  • Eruption +15%
  • Fire Breath +60%
  • Upheaval +40%
  • Blistering Scales +100%
This is one of the loudest PvE packages in the post. Expect parse conversations to get weird for a week while people re-learn what “Aug damage” looks like on their logs.

Devastation (Mythic+ focused)

Most of this package does not apply in PvP:

  • Pyre +10%
  • Unbound Flame +25%
  • Fire Breath +5%
  • Azure Strike +50%
  • Azure Sweep +50%
  • Shattering Star +10%
Dev note: Flameshaper is expected to gain more from this than Scalecommander, because Scalecommander was already ahead in most content.

Hunter: Marksmanship AoE and Survival bomb math

Marksmanship

  • Trick Shots ricochets 75% (was 60%)
  • Volley +10%
Clear AoE intent for keys and trash.

Survival

Wildfire Bomb +20% overall, but primary-target bonus drops to 50% (was 80%). Dev intent: roughly neutral on single target, up when you hit more than one enemy. Do not read the headline +20% as a pure ST buff.

Mage: Fire and Frost Mythic+ packages

Both specs get M+-leaning work with smaller raid impact.

Fire

  • Meteor DoT +100% (no PvP)
  • Frostfire Dualcasting Adept Flamestrike 15% (was 10%)
  • Sunfury Burden of Power Flamestrike 6% (was 3%)

Frost

  • Frozen Orb +15%
  • Comet Storm +50% (no PvP)
  • Frostbite shatter to nearby enemies +10%
  • Glacial Assault icy comet +50%
If you live in 8-12 keys on either mage, these are the lines to watch on Tuesday meters.

Monk: Mistweaver throughput and Windwalker auto-attack punch

Mistweaver (PvE only on these lines)

  • All healing +5%
  • Vivify +15%
  • Sheilun’s Gift +15%
Armored warrior — legendary World of Warcraft account

Windwalker (PvE only)

  • Melee auto-attack +25%
  • Dual Threat +20%
  • Rising Sun Kick +8%
Windwalker’s auto-attack line is easy to undersell in patch notes and overfeel in actual pulls. Dual Threat riding that is the quieter story.

Paladin: Protection aura and Templar catch-up

  • Protection all ability damage +6% (no PvP)
  • Retribution Templar: Hammer of Light +50% (no PvP), Empyrean Hammer +12%
Templar has been trailing Herald of the Sun in PvE. This is the catch-up package for players who like the Templar loop. Herald mains should not panic; this is about option parity, not a full role swap mandate.

Priest: Discipline dungeon Atonement and Shadow single target

Discipline

This is the structural change of the week for healers in keys:

  • Atonement healing +40% when not in a raid or battleground
  • Atonement no longer gets the +40% in PvP
  • Penance mana cost -20%
Dev note: Disc was too weak in dungeons relative to how strong Atonement is in raids. If you shelved Disc for M+ because atonement felt anemic on dungeon timers, this is the retest window.

Shadow

ST up, multi-target roughly neutral:

  • Mind Blast, Void Blast, Shadow Word: Death, Shadow Word: Madness, Mind Flay, Mind Flay: Insanity all +15% (Madness / Mind Flay / MF:Insanity lines do not apply in PvP)
  • Psychic Link 20% (was 25%), no PvP
  • Shadeburst -5%, no PvP

Rogue and Warrior: Trickster and Mountain Thane

Subtlety Trickster (no PvP on these)

  • Unseen Blade +50%
  • Coup de Grace +30%
Aimed at closing the gap to Deathstalker so Trickster is a real choice outside a narrow niche.

Warrior Mountain Thane (Fury and Protection)

  • Lightning Strike +50%
  • Ground Current +50%
Warriors overall are called “in a good state”; this is a hero-tree catch-up for Mountain Thane enjoyers on both Fury and Prot.

PvP tuning you should not skip

The PvP half of the post is long. Highlights that change how ladders feel:

  • Unholy San’layn: Inevitable 60% (was 30%), Vampiric Strike +100%
  • Feral Druid of the Claw: Ravage +20%, Dreadful Wound +25%, Exacerbating Wounds bleeds 10% (was 8%)
  • Resto Druid: Call of Ohn’ahra stretches Nature’s Swiftness CD by 60s (was 30s); Swiftmend -20% in PvP
  • Augmentation: Ebon Might 12% primary stat in PvP (was 10%)
  • Preservation Flameshaper: Consume Flame healing -30% in PvP
  • Beast Mastery Dark Ranger: Black Arrow +30% in PvP
  • Survival: Takedown hunter -10% / pet -15%; Sentinel Moonlight Chakram -15%
  • Fire Mage: Pyroclasm 160% (was 180%) in PvP
  • Windwalker: Conduit of the Celestials Celestial Conduit +50%; Shado-Pan Flurry Strikes -15%
  • Ret Templar: Hammer of Light +20% in PvP
  • Priest: Mindgames direct damage and reversal +50%; Holy Archon Halo +30%, Focused Outburst Prayer of Healing cast reduction 40% (was 15%), Realized Potential Flash Heal 20% (was 10%); Shadow Word: Death +30% in PvP
  • Assassination all damage -4% in PvP, Deathmark shows as a large raid-frame aura; Outlaw all damage +5%
  • Elemental: Lightning Bolt +25%, Lava Burst +15%, Voltaic Blaze instant -25%, Purging Flames Lava Burst effectiveness 25% (was 40%)
  • Enhancement all damage +3%
  • Affliction: Agony +40%, Unstable Affliction +10%
  • Arms Colossus: Practiced Strikes 40% (was 25%), Arterial Bleed 5% per stack (was 3%), Cut to the Bone 30% (was 15%)
Arena players: the Resto Druid Swiftmend / Nature’s Swiftness changes and the Survival burst trims are the clearest “counterplay” notes in the post. Disc losing the PvP Atonement bonus also matters for hybrid healer comps.

How should you prep before Tuesday reset?

Treat September 22 like a mini patch day even though it is “just” tuning.

  • Export your current talent loadouts so you can A/B after one night of logs.
  • Re-sim or re-check hero trees that got named catch-ups: Aldrachi Reaver, Templar, Trickster, Mountain Thane, Deathbringer vs San’layn Blood, Flameshaper vs Scalecommander Devastation, Blightfall Unholy.
  • Disc and Aug mains should schedule at least one dungeon or raid night after reset before you write the specs off or crown them again. Both packages change how the meter and the heal chart read.
  • PvPers should update WeakAuras / frame awareness for Deathmark’s new large aura and retest San’layn Unholy, Archon Holy, and Colossus Arms windows.
  • Do not overbuy consumables for a tree you are about to drop. Spend the gold after you confirm the feel in one real key or raid pull.
Soft reminder if you are rebuilding a raid or key roster around this pass: curated WoW boosts and account options stay on AccountShark’s WoW page when you need a schedule-friendly path, not a panic buy the hour before reset.

What this pass does not do

No amount of positive patch-note energy replaces logs. Linxy’s list buffs a lot of low performers and closes some hero gaps. It does not promise that every buffed spec jumps a full tier overnight, and several of the loudest damage lines are explicitly PvE-only. Wait for Tuesday meters, then decide.

Also missing from this package: a full answer for every forum complaint. Brewmaster, some warlock pets, and other pet peeves show up in replies under the blue post, but they are not in the announced list. Play what is written, not what you hope lands midweek.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does WoW class tuning go live on September 22, 2026?

The announced Midnight class tuning package goes live with the Americas weekly reset on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. That is the same reset that rotates Mythic+ and raid lockouts, so plan any hero talent swaps before you commit vault progress on Monday night.

How many specs does the September 22 Midnight tuning affect?

Icy Veins summarizes the PvE side as touching 23 specs across the class list Linxy posted, with a separate large PvP section covering additional combat changes. Count the exact list from the official US forum post if you need a checklist for your alts.

Is the September 22 tuning mostly buffs or nerfs for Mythic+ and raid?

It is primarily a low-performer buff pass for Mythic+, raid, and PvP, plus hero talent catch-ups. Blood Death Knight is the clearest mixed package (aura down, Death Strike and Deathbringer up). Several PvP lines include targeted nerfs such as Resto Druid burst tools, Survival Hunter burst, Fire Pyroclasm, Shado-Pan Flurry, Assassination aura, and Elemental cleave tools.

Does September 22 class tuning affect PvP the same way as PvE?

No. Many of the largest PvE damage buffs are tagged as not affecting PvP combat, including Frost DK Frostreaper and Obliterate, Unholy Scourging and Blightfall, Devourer Collapsing Star, Devastation’s M+ package, Mistweaver and Windwalker’s throughput lines, Protection Paladin’s aura, Templar’s PvE Hammer of Light bump, and Subtlety Trickster’s Unseen Blade and Coup de Grace. PvP has its own dedicated list.

What happens to Discipline Priest Atonement after the September 22 patch?

Outside raid and battleground instances, Atonement healing increases by 40%. The previous 40% Atonement increase in PvP is removed. Penance also costs 20% less mana. The developer note explicitly calls out dungeon healing as the target, because raid Atonement was already strong.

Should Blood Death Knights swap off San’layn after September 22?

Blizzard is cutting overall Blood damage by 6% because San’layn AoE was too high, then buffing Death Strike, trimming Deadly Reach cleave, and packing Deathbringer-specific increases so Deathbringer ends slightly ahead. San’layn is not deleted, but if your value was inflated AoE tank damage, expect a smaller edge. Sim both trees after reset.

Is Augmentation Evoker getting a real buff on September 22 or just QoL?

It is a real personal damage buff package: Eruption +15%, Fire Breath +60%, Upheaval +40%, and Blistering Scales +100%. Developers say those pieces were underrepresented relative to time spent. Support identity does not vanish, but Aug’s own damage contribution should climb.

Which hero talents get the biggest catch-up buffs in this Midnight tuning?

Named catch-up packages include Aldrachi Reaver for Havoc and Vengeance, Templar for Retribution, Trickster for Subtlety, Mountain Thane for Fury and Protection, Deathbringer offsets for Blood, San’layn tools for Unholy (PvE and PvP), Flameshaper gaining more than Scalecommander from the Devastation M+ package, Conduit of the Celestials versus Shado-Pan in PvP Windwalker, Dark Ranger for Beast Mastery PvP, Archon for Holy Priest PvP, and Colossus for Arms PvP.

Where can I read the official September 22 class tuning notes?

Start with Linxy’s Class Tuning Incoming - September 22 post on the US forums, then cross-check the Icy Veins write-up for a scanned summary. For how those numbers sit in the season, pair them with AccountShark’s Midnight Season 2 raid guide and spec tier list after live logs update.
