World of Warcraft: Forever just took another heavy beta pass. Community Manager Kaivax posted the notes on October 16, 2026 at 00:15 UTC, which is the evening of October 15 in America/Chicago. The mirror on The Forever Era and the Wowhead Forever write-up both carry the same changelog: a full racial rework, stand-still rules for wands and Hunter Auto Shot, raid-wide auras and totems, and a dense class list that hits Mage, Shaman, Priest, Paladin, Hunter pets, and more.
This is the kind of build you log into the same night it lands. Racial identity, raid buff coverage, and basic combat feel all moved at once. Treat it as a likely late-beta class and systems pass before launch polish, not as a promise that nothing else will change. Blizzard has not announced a launch date in this post, and this guide will not invent one.
If you are already deep in the Forever class series, keep those tabs open while you respec: the Mage and Shaman deep dive, the Hunter and Druid changes guide, the Priest and Warrior changes guide, the October 12 developer interview, and the PvP progression / Darkspear Islands guide.
What this build is trying to do
Three themes run through the Kaivax list.
1. Racials stop being weapon-type tax. Sword Spec, Axe Spec, and Mace Spec are gone. Humans, Orcs, and Dwarves get crit chance or crit damage/healing instead. That removes the old "my race wants this weapon type" trap that Classic players remember, and it will reshape race and class theorycraft overnight.
2. Raid buffs become raid buffs. Battle Shout, Trueshot Aura, Moonkin Aura, Leader of the Pack, and the big Enhancement totems are now raid-wide. Moonkin only feeds spell crit. Leader of the Pack only feeds melee and ranged crit. Grace of Air is no longer exclusive with Windfury or Flametongue, while Windfury and Flametongue still exclude each other.
3. Combat pacing gets older-school friction. Wands and Hunter Auto Shot now need 0.5 seconds of stand-still before they fire, matching early World of Warcraft. Developers note that Hunters still fire Auto Shot while casting Aimed Shot or Sniper Shot. A new Auto Attack / Auto Shot setting lets Hunters auto-switch between melee and ranged, including on gamepad.
Thread those three together and you get a beta night that is less about one talent node and more about rebuilding your character sheet: race, raid role, and pull pacing.
Racial rework: table and plain-English reads
A few opinions you will see in beta chat, marked clearly as opinion rather than patch text:
- Human 2% crit looks stronger on paper than Orc 1% crit, especially after Blood Fury moved to a 3-minute cooldown and Shatter Curse lost its old immunity identity. That is a community balance take, not a Blizzard ranking.
- Tauren and Dwarf 2% crit damage and healing is a different stat from crit chance. Do not treat them as the same button as Ruthless or Savage.
- Skyborne 3% haste plus moving Skysight / Read Leyline is a real caster quality-of-life and throughput bump for anyone on that race.
- Troll 20% regeneration is easy to underrate while leveling.
Combat feel: stand-still, Auto Shot, and the new setting
Two lines will change how open-world and dungeon pulls feel tonight:
- Wands require 0.5 seconds of standing still before they shoot.
- Hunter Auto Shot requires the same 0.5 seconds of standing still before it shoots.
Hunters also get a new options toggle: Auto Attack / Auto Shot. When enabled, the client switches between auto attack and auto shot for you, and gamepad support is included. Pair that with the note that arrows should now be visible when the bow is drawn back, and pets correctly benefit from Expertise.
If you main a caster who still wand-weaves between casts, practice the half-second plant before you blame latency.
Raid-wide auras and totems
Practical raid-lead notes pulled only from the posted text:
- You want a Warrior shout, a Marks Hunter aura, a Moonkin for spell crit, and a Feral for melee/ranged crit if those roles are available.
- Shaman totem planning gets easier for Grace of Air because it no longer fights Windfury/Flametongue exclusivity. Windfury versus Flametongue is still a real choice.
- Windfury and Flametongue correctly affect players only, which closes pet edge cases.
- Chain Lightning mana cost is down about 35% across all four ranks, which matters for Elemental AoE nights even before you touch Elemental Mastery.
Class highlights worth testing tonight
This is not every bullet in the Kaivax list. It is the short list that changes how you talent, glyph your muscle memory, or pick a dungeon role.
Mage: Frost Blast, Arcane Blast redesign, Arcane Wrath, Frost retune
- Frost Blast is a new level 24 spell: 1.5 second cast, damage plus a 40% move slow, and it benefits from talents that affect Frostbolt. Developers say it replaces the old "downrank Frostbolt for slow" job after downranking penalties.
- Arcane Blast is redesigned: 1.5 second cast; each cast grants 15% of Intellect as Spell Damage, stacking to 4, lasting 15 seconds from first apply (not just until the next spell); mana cost unchanged; damage and Spell Damage coefficients reduced 40%.
- Arcane Wrath is a new 16-point gold medal: Fireball-like base damage, 3.5 second cast, bonus spell power equal to 5% of maximum Mana, 6 second cooldown.
- Missile Barrage moves to row one as a 2-point talent and can also proc from Arcane Missiles hits.
- Ice Lance damage vs Frozen targets is a 200% increase (was 300%).
- Winter's Chill no longer adds crit. It now feeds Cone of Cold: Frostbolt, Frost Blast, and Fingers of Frost empowered Ice Lance can apply stacks that raise Cone of Cold damage and spell damage share, up to 5 stacks. Cone of Cold also keeps stronger slow value on the first 4 targets.
Shaman: Elemental Mastery returns, Chain Lightning cheaper, totems raid-wide
- Elemental Mastery is back as the 31-point gold medal: -0.5s cast on Lightning Bolt and Lava Burst, Chain Lightning cooldown removed for 15 seconds, 3-minute cooldown, Lava Burst prerequisite.
- Lava Burst moves earlier as the 21-point gold medal with a new rank 4 and no prerequisite.
- Chain Lightning mana cost reduced by about 35% on all ranks.
- Fire Nova spell power coefficient, base damage, and mana cost all came down hard.
- Enhancement: Stormstrike cost is now 8% of base mana (was flat 125 mana), and the Stormstrike debuff is not consumed on a miss.
- Restoration: extra Mana Tide rank at 38, Water Shield can proc from any critical spell (not only heals).
Shadow Priest: Dark Inspiration, faster VE and Devouring Plague
- New row 4 talent Dark Inspiration: Mind Blast and fully channeled Mind Flay raise yours and your party's Spirit by 3/6/9/12/15% for 10 seconds.
- Vampiric Embrace cooldown 30 seconds (was 1 minute) and can no longer be resisted.
- Devouring Plague cooldown 24 seconds (was 1 minute); Shadow Word: Death cooldown 18 seconds (was 12).
- Improved Fade and Shadow Infinity are removed; Improved Mind Flay now ramps per tick; Devouring Contagion spreads to 2 targets.
Paladin: Salvation outside the blessing exclusive slot, Reckoning Classic charges
- Blessing of Salvation / Greater Blessing of Salvation become Salvation and Mass Salvation, applied like the old blessings but not exclusive with blessings.
- Paladins also learn Revoke to remove Salvation from a party or raid member.
- Reckoning stores up to 4 charges and dumps them on your next auto attack swing, restoring Classic-era charge behavior so instant attacks do not reset the swing timer the wrong way.
- Protection Shield Specialization mana return is 4% with a 3 second ICD (was 6%). Righteous Fury Holy threat is 90% (was 60%). Consecration spell power per tick is 0.042 (was 0.095).
Hunter: two traps, pet ability nerfs, Trueshot raid-wide
- You may have 1 Fire Trap and 1 Ice Trap active at once (was one trap among all types).
- Fire traps correctly scale with Attack Power.
- Pet nerfs: Dismember healing reduction 25% / 6s / 15s CD; Sonic Blast cast-speed slow 30% / 20s / 60s CD; Mine! 3s / 90s CD.
- Trueshot Aura is raid-wide.
- Resourcefulness now only procs from melee and ranged ability crits, not traps.
Druid, Warrior, and the rest of the short list
- Moonkin Aura and Leader of the Pack are raid-wide with school-specific crit rules noted above.
- Furor keeps Cat Energy when you dip into Bear forms (Bears still do not regen Energy).
- Shred Rank 1 moves to level 20.
- Battle Shout is raid-wide. Slam no longer takes spell pushback.
- Warlock Affliction swaps Malediction for Grim Reach; Shadow Mastery is 2/4/6/8/10%. Destruction Reach is 10/20% range.
World, PvP, and UI notes that actually matter
- Open-world Dalaran: Horde are attacked on sight and are no longer welcome under any circumstances. The City of Dalaran dungeon is still accessible. The Horde sewer-key questline no longer grants unrestricted open-world city access.
- Battleground Marks of Honor stack to 30 (was 20), which pairs with the longer mark-farming loops in our PvP progression guide.
- New tutorial for new players, plus updated in-game tutorials.
- Auction House gains an equippable level column and correctly shows suffix stats (of the Monkey, and so on).
- Unit frames, minimap header, cooldown manager rank collapsing, scrolling combat text options, nameplate vertical clutter, level-up stat messages, LFG level-range eligibility, and Who List subzone search all got polish.
- Gamepad: swing timer on the reticle, more dialogs usable, Press and Hold Casting compatibility, and the Auto Attack/Auto Shot setting noted earlier.
What to do on your beta character tonight
- Respec or remake with racials first. If you picked a race for Sword/Axe/Mace Spec, that reason is gone. Rebuild around Ruthless, Savage, Earth Fury, Endurance, Skyborne haste, or Troll regen as they actually read now.
- Plant your feet for wands and Auto Shot. Spend ten minutes in a starter zone relearning the half-second stand-still before you queue a dungeon.
- Audit raid buff coverage on your main and your alts. Warriors, Marks Hunters, Moonkin, Ferals, and Shaman totems all changed who they buff.
- Mages: open a dummy and feel Arcane Blast's 15-second Intellect-to-spell-damage window, then try Frost Blast instead of a downranked Frostbolt.
- Elemental Shaman: path to the returned Elemental Mastery and spend the cheaper Chain Lightning mana.
- Shadow Priests: time Dark Inspiration windows with Mind Blast and full Mind Flay channels; note the new VE and DP cooldown floors.
- Paladins: practice Salvation plus Revoke instead of the old blessing exclusive puzzle; test Reckoning charge dumps on a training dummy.
- Hunters: drop one Fire and one Ice trap together; re-evaluate crocolisk/bat/bird pet abilities after the nerfs.
- Horde in Dalaran: do not expect open-world city access. Use the dungeon entrance path if you need the instance.
Frequently Asked Questions
When did Blizzard post these Forever beta notes?
Kaivax's post is stamped October 16, 2026, 00:15 UTC. For America/Chicago that is the evening of October 15, 2026. The Forever Era and Wowhead mirrors carry the same changelog.
Did weapon racials really go away?
Yes for the three called out in the notes. Human Sword Specialization becomes Ruthless (2% crit). Orc Axe Specialization becomes Savage (1% crit). Dwarf Mace Specialization becomes Earth Fury (2% crit damage and healing). Other races got their own listed updates rather than weapon-type specs.
Do wands and Auto Shot both need stand-still?
Yes. Both require 0.5 seconds of standing still before they shoot, matching early World of Warcraft. Hunter Auto Shot still fires while you are casting Aimed Shot or Sniper Shot.
Are Battle Shout and Trueshot Aura really raid-wide now?
Yes. The notes also make Moonkin Aura (spell crit), Leader of the Pack (melee and ranged crit), Grace of Air, Strength of Earth, Windfury Totem, and Flametongue Totem raid-wide.
What happened to Arcane Blast?
It is a 1.5 second cast that grants stacking Spell Damage equal to 15% of Intellect per stack, up to 4 stacks, for 15 seconds from the first application. Mana cost is unchanged. Damage and Spell Damage coefficients are reduced 40%.
Is Elemental Mastery back for Shaman?
Yes. It returns as the 31-point Elemental gold medal: shorter Lightning Bolt and Lava Burst casts, Chain Lightning cooldown removed for 15 seconds, 3-minute cooldown, with Lava Burst as a prerequisite.
Can Horde still enter Dalaran?
Open-world Dalaran attacks Horde on sight. The City of Dalaran dungeon remains accessible. The Horde sewer-key questline no longer grants unrestricted open-world city access.
Do Battleground Marks stack higher?
Yes. Marks of Honor now stack to 30, up from 20.
Should I reroll my race after this build?
Only after you reread the racial table against your class. Weapon-type racials are gone for Human, Orc, and Dwarf, and several throughput racials moved. This guide will not crown a "best race" list, because that is community opinion layered on top of the blue post.
Is this the last Forever class pass before launch?
It reads like a late, wide systems pass, but Kaivax did not call it final, and Blizzard did not attach a launch date in this post. Expect more fixes. Do not treat tonight's build as frozen retail.
