WoW Midnight Class Tuning October 27: Subtlety Nerf, Feral and Fire Buffs, Resto Druid M+ Healing, PvP Changes and Oct 23 Hotfixes
Quick Answer · WoW Midnight Class Tuning · Oct 27
• When: With weekly maintenance on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. US maintenance normally starts around 9 AM CT; check Blizzard's maintenance notice for the exact window.
• PvE buffs: Feral Druid +5% all damage, Fire Mage +5% all damage, Restoration Druid Verdancy +60% / Regrowth +10% / Improved Swiftmend 40% (was 30%), Marksmanship AoE (Trick Shots 85%, Explosive Shot and Volley +10%), Unstable Affliction +20%, Rain of Fire +20%.
• PvE nerf: Subtlety Rogue all ability damage -8%, and Trickster's Fazed drops to 5% (was 7%).
• PvP: Buffs for Devourer, Preservation Chronowarden, Marksmanship, Frostfire, Mistweaver Conduit, Holy Paladin, Holy Priest Archon, Assassination Deathstalker and Resto Shaman totems. Nerfs for Fire Mage (-5%) and San'layn Vampiric Strike (-20%).

• Same reset: The Fabled: Let Me Solo Him: Kindo'jan achievement window closes, and WoW Forever name reservation opens.

Blizzard dropped the next round of World of Warcraft: Midnight class tuning on Friday afternoon, October 23, and it is the first proper balance pass since patch 12.1.5 went live on October 13. The post, titled Class Tuning Incoming - October 27, says every change arrives "with scheduled weekly maintenance," which for North America means Tuesday, October 27.

The headline is simple. Subtlety Rogue, which has been sitting on top of almost every damage chart since 12.1.5, is getting pulled back. Feral Druid and Fire Mage get flat damage buffs, Restoration Druid gets a dungeon-focused healing package, Marksmanship gets better at area damage, and two Warlock specs get a single-ability bump. PvP has its own longer list.

On top of that, Blizzard updated its living hotfix post on October 23 with a handful of fixes that are already live. I cover those near the end, along with two other things tied to the same Tuesday reset that you do not want to miss.

Everything below comes from Blizzard's own posts. When I am giving my read on what a change means for your week, I say so.

When the October 27 Tuning Goes Live

Blizzard does not put a clock time on class tuning posts. It just ties the changes to the weekly reset. In the US, Tuesday maintenance usually begins around 9 AM CT and realms come back up later that morning. Daylight saving time in the US does not end until November 1, so the usual summer window still applies this week. Blizzard posts the exact maintenance window on its support site a day or two ahead, so check that if you plan to raid Tuesday night.

Blizzard posted the same list for Europe, also dated October 27 "in this region," so EU players should check their own regional maintenance notice for timing.

One practical point: these are server-side changes. You do not need to download a patch. Your tooltips will update when you log in after maintenance, but most damage modifiers do not show on the tooltip at all, so the real test is your first few pulls.

PvE Class Changes

There are six PvE specs touched in this pass. Five go up and one goes down. Most of the buffs carry the line "Does not affect PvP combat," which matters if you play both sides of the game. I note the ones that do affect PvP.

Feral Druid: +5% all damage

The full change is one line: all damage done increased by 5%, PvE only.

There is no developer note this time, but the reason is not a mystery. Feral has spent most of Season 2 near the bottom of raid charts, and the September 22 tuning already pushed Druid of the Claw with Ravage and Dreadful Wound buffs. A flat 5% is the bluntest tool Blizzard has, and it lifts both hero trees equally.

My read: 5% will move Feral up a few places, not to the top. Players on the official forum were quick to say the spec's problems are about how it plays in this tier's fights, not just raw numbers. Still, if you main Feral, this is the biggest buff the spec has had in a while. Our Feral Druid guide covers talents and rotation if you are dusting the cat off.

Restoration Druid: built for Mythic+

This is the most interesting healer change on the page, because Blizzard explains exactly what it is aiming at. The developer note says Resto Druid is "behind other healers" when it comes to burst damage in dungeons, while it is "performing well in raid settings." So the team picked talents and spells that Druids lean on in five-player groups.

  • Verdancy healing increased by 60%.
  • Regrowth healing increased by 10%.
  • Improved Swiftmend now increases Swiftmend healing by 40% (was 30%).
All three are PvE only.

My read: Verdancy at +60% is a big number on paper. Because it is a talent mostly picked for dungeons, the raid impact should stay small, which is exactly what Blizzard says it wants. Regrowth and Swiftmend are your panic buttons when a pack hits hard, so the extra 10% and the extra 10 points on Improved Swiftmend should make those scary moments in high keys a little less scary. If you heal keys on a Druid, re-check your talent build after reset. The Restoration Druid guide is a good base to work from.

Marksmanship Hunter: better AoE

The developer note says these changes "boost the area damage effectiveness of Marksmanship Hunters." Here is the list:

  • Trick Shots now increases the ricochet damage of Aimed Shot and Rapid Fire by 85% (was 75%).
  • Explosive Shot damage increased by 10%.
  • Volley damage increased by 10%.
Unlike the Druid and Mage lines, these three do not carry the "Does not affect PvP" note, so they apply everywhere.

My read: this is a Mythic+ buff first. Trick Shots is the whole reason Marksmanship can cleave, and Volley and Explosive Shot are the spec's main burst AoE tools. Raid gains will be modest on single-target fights. Hunter players on the forums were not thrilled that Beast Mastery and Survival got nothing, and that is a fair complaint. If you play Beast Mastery or Survival, nothing changes for you on Tuesday. Our Marksmanship Hunter guide has the full build breakdown.

Fire Mage: +5% all damage in PvE

Fire gets the same treatment as Feral: all damage done increased by 5%, PvE only.

There is a twist further down the post. In PvP, Fire is getting a 5% damage nerf because Blizzard says it "has continued to overperform" there. So Fire ends up stronger in dungeons and raids and weaker in arenas and battlegrounds. That split is exactly why the "Does not affect PvP combat" tag exists.

My read: Fire has been one of the weaker DPS specs in raid this season, so this is a welcome catch-up. If you play both PvE and PvP on a Fire Mage, expect your raid parses to go up and your arena damage to come down by about the same amount. The Fire Mage guide covers the current build.

Subtlety Rogue: -8% and a Trickster trim

Here is the one that will move the meters. Blizzard's developer note is unusually direct:

"The buff Subtlety received as compensation alongside changes in the 12.1.5 patch overshot expectations, so we're rolling back a significant portion of that buff. In addition, the patch changes benefitted Trickster more than Deathstalker, so Trickster is receiving an additional smaller nerf."

  • All ability damage reduced by 8%.
  • Trickster: Fazed now increases damage by 5% (was 7%).
Some background helps here. Patch 12.1.5 corrected how Shadow damage modifiers apply across Subtlety, including Secret Technique's extra hits and Shadow Clone attacks, and the patch notes said the overall impact was "under review." Blizzard paired that fix with a compensation buff. It turns out the combination pushed Sub well past where the team wanted it. Trickster had already been buffed on September 22 and October 6 to close the gap with Deathstalker, and Blizzard says the 12.1.5 changes helped Trickster even more, which is why it takes a second, smaller cut.

My read: this nerf does not have a PvP exemption, so it applies across the board. Commenters on Wowhead were quick to do the math and point out that an 8% cut stacked on top of a bigger compensation buff likely still leaves the spec ahead of where it was before 12.1.5. Expect Subtlety to stay strong. It just will not be miles ahead anymore. If you play Trickster, the extra Fazed cut means Deathstalker may sim closer, so run both after reset. Our Subtlety Rogue guide has both builds.

Affliction and Destruction Warlock: one big ability each

  • Affliction: Unstable Affliction damage increased by 20%. Does not affect PvP.
  • Destruction: Rain of Fire damage increased by 20%. This one has no PvP exemption.
My read: Unstable Affliction is a core single-target damage over time spell, so that buff helps Affliction everywhere it is a priority. Rain of Fire is pure AoE, which means Destruction gets a Mythic+ and add-fight bump rather than a boss damage bump. Some Destruction players on Wowhead wanted single-target help like Wither or Immolate buffs instead. If you play Demonology, there is nothing for you in this pass. See our Affliction Warlock guide and Destruction Warlock guide for builds.

PvP Changes

The PvP section is longer than the PvE one. Every line below applies only in PvP combat, so none of it touches your raid or key numbers.

Nerfs

  • Unholy Death Knight, San'layn: Vampiric Strike damage reduced by 20%. Blizzard says the last San'layn adjustments worked, but Vampiric Strike's impact "has been higher than we would like."
  • Fire Mage: All damage reduced by 5%. As covered above, this is the flip side of the PvE buff.

Buffs

  • Devourer Demon Hunter: Collapsing Star damage +20%.
  • Preservation Evoker, Chronowarden: Chronal Dynamo now boosts Living Flame healing and damage by 80% when not instant (was 50%). Reverberations now makes Verdant Embrace heal for an extra 80% over 8 seconds (was 40%).
  • Marksmanship Hunter: Kill Shot damage +40%, Deathblow's chance from Aimed Shot raised to 25%, and Dark Ranger's Black Arrow damage +40%.
  • Frost Mage, Frostfire: Isothermic Core's Meteor +20% and Duality's Pyroblast +20%. The note says Frostfire "has not been a competitive option" and Blizzard wants it to feel different from Spellslinger.
  • Mistweaver Monk, Conduit of the Celestials: Celestial Conduit healing +35% and Strength of the Black Ox absorb +25%.
  • Holy Paladin: All healing +5%, and Divine Favor now cuts Holy Light's mana cost by 50% (was 30%). Blizzard wants Holy Paladins casting Holy Light more.
  • Holy Priest: Prayer of Healing healing +30%. Prayerful Litany's bonus on the primary target is now 75% (was 125%), so it moves value from the main target to the whole group. Archon gets bigger procs: Resonant Energy 4% per stack (was 2%), Empowered Surges 10% (was 5%), Realized Potential 25% (was 20%).
  • Assassination Rogue, Deathstalker: Deathstalker's Mark +20%, Hunt Them Down +20%, and Darkest Night now boosts the next Eviscerate by 15% (was 8%).
  • Restoration Shaman: Healing Stream Totem and Stormstream Totem healing +20%.
My read on PvP: Blizzard is clearly trying to make unpopular hero trees playable in arena rather than reshaping the top of the ladder. Frostfire, Conduit of the Celestials, Archon and Chronowarden are all called out by name as underused. If you have been forcing the "meta" hero tree on a spec you do not enjoy, this might be the week to try the other one in skirmishes first. If you are still gearing for rated play, the Spoils of War buff from the October 20 hotfixes (50% more Conquest and 40% more Honor in battlegrounds and arenas) is a nice incentive to queue right after reset.

Specs That Got Nothing

It is worth being clear about who is not in the post, because the forum thread filled up fast with these questions. Fury and Arms Warrior, Beast Mastery and Survival Hunter, Balance and Guardian Druid, Demonology Warlock, Shadow and Discipline Priest, Frost Mage in PvE, Outlaw and Assassination in PvE, and every Shaman spec in PvE are among the specs untouched this week. Paladin, Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Monk and Evoker also get no PvE changes.

That does not mean Blizzard thinks they are fine. It just means they are not in this round. Blizzard has been doing class tuning every couple of weeks this season, so another pass before the next big patch would not be a surprise. I would not reroll an alt based on what was left out.

Hotfixes Already Live: October 23

Separate from the tuning, Blizzard updated its living hotfix post on October 23. These are live right now. Our October 15 to 21 hotfix guide covers the earlier entries.

Classes

  • Enhancement Shaman: Surging Elements now shows up on the Cooldown Manager. If you set up your bars around the built-in tracker and wondered why that buff was missing, it is fixed.
  • Warlock: Some summons and Diabolic Occuli could target enemies outside of combat. That covered Affliction's Shadows of Nath'reza, Demonology's Dominion of Argus and Diabolist summons. This is the kind of bug that pulls a pack during a careful Mythic+ skip, so it is a real quality of life fix.

Dungeons

  • Den of Nalorakk: Nalorakk's Echoing Maul could sometimes happen in the wrong location. Fixed.
  • Murder Row: Nibbles' Fel Spray could hit targets outside the intended area. Fixed. Combined with the barrel safe zone ring added on October 16, Murder Row should feel a lot fairer than it did two weeks ago.

Items, Hallow's End and the Labyrinth

  • Ascendant Venomstones: Items upgraded with them could show the wrong item level. Fixed. If an upgraded piece looked off in your character sheet, check it again.
  • Hallow's End: You can now leave combat with the Shade of Seabreaker Skoloth in Neighborhoods. Before this, getting stuck in combat in your own neighborhood meant no mounting and no hearthing.
  • Labyrinth: Shorter character models no longer fall through the floor when respawning in Jan'alai's Refuge. Gnome, Goblin, Vulpera and Mechagnome players, this one is for you.

Two Other Things Happening at the Same Reset

Tuesday's maintenance is busier than usual, so here are two dates worth putting in your calendar.

The Fabled Kindo'jan solo window closes

On October 20, Blizzard extended Fabled: Let Me Solo Him: Kindo'jan so it "can now be earned until weekly maintenance during the week of October 27." In plain terms, Tuesday morning is your deadline in the US. Remember that the same hotfix removed Spirit Conduit Loa powers from Kindo'jan's fight, so if your plan leaned on those, practice before Monday night. If you play Feral or Fire, note that your 5% buff arrives after the window closes, so it will not help with this one.

WoW Forever name reservation opens

The same Tuesday, Blizzard opens character name reservation for World of Warcraft: Forever, ahead of the global launch on November 4. We covered the details in our Forever beta wrap-up. If you plan to play both games, it is worth grabbing your names right after maintenance, since popular ones go fast.

What I Would Do Before and After Reset

This is my opinion, not Blizzard's advice, but here is how I would plan the next few days:

  • Finish the Fabled solo by Monday. It disappears with maintenance on Tuesday.
  • Do not reroll for 5%. Feral and Fire are better on Tuesday, but not so much better that you should drop a geared main.
  • Subtlety players, re-sim both hero trees. Trickster took two hits, Deathstalker took one. The gap between them may be smaller now.
  • Resto Druids, revisit your Mythic+ talents. Verdancy at +60% may now be worth a slot it was not before.
  • Marksmanship, push some keys. Your AoE got the most attention. Raid gains will be smaller.
  • PvP healers on Holy Paladin, Holy Priest or Mistweaver, try the buffed trees in skirmish first. A few of these are big percentage changes on talents that barely saw play.
If you would rather spend your limited time on the fun parts and less on catching an alt up for the new tuning, AccountShark's WoW boosting can help with Mythic+ and gear. None of the changes above need outside help, though. Most of this week is about adjusting builds, not grinding.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the October 27 WoW class tuning go live?

It goes live with scheduled weekly maintenance on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in North America. US maintenance usually starts around 9 AM CT. Blizzard's European post lists the same changes, also dated October 27, so check your regional maintenance notice. Blizzard posts the exact maintenance window on its support site shortly before.

How much is Subtlety Rogue being nerfed?

All Subtlety ability damage is reduced by 8%, and Trickster's Fazed bonus drops from 7% to 5%. Blizzard says the compensation buff that came with patch 12.1.5 "overshot expectations," so it is rolling back a large part of it. The nerf has no PvP exemption.

Are Feral Druid and Fire Mage getting buffed in WoW Midnight?

Yes. Both get a flat 5% increase to all damage done in PvE on October 27. Neither buff affects PvP. Fire Mage is also getting a separate 5% damage nerf in PvP, so it gets stronger in raids and dungeons and weaker in arenas and battlegrounds.

What are the Restoration Druid changes for October 27?

Verdancy healing goes up by 60%, Regrowth healing by 10%, and Improved Swiftmend now increases Swiftmend healing by 40% instead of 30%. Blizzard says the goal is to help Resto Druids handle burst damage in Mythic+, where they are behind other healers, without changing their already solid raid performance.

Is Marksmanship Hunter getting buffed?

Yes, mostly for area damage. Trick Shots now increases Aimed Shot and Rapid Fire ricochet damage by 85% (was 75%), and Explosive Shot and Volley each deal 10% more damage. In PvP, Kill Shot and Dark Ranger's Black Arrow also get 40% more damage, and Aimed Shot's chance to trigger Deathblow rises to 25%.

Did Beast Mastery or Survival Hunter get any changes?

No. Neither spec is in the October 27 tuning post. Only Marksmanship received changes for Hunters this week, which has been a common complaint on the official forums.

What Warlock changes are coming on October 27?

Affliction's Unstable Affliction deals 20% more damage in PvE, and Destruction's Rain of Fire deals 20% more damage everywhere. Demonology is not changed. Separately, the October 23 hotfixes already fixed some Warlock summons and Diabolic Occuli attacking enemies outside of combat.

Do I need to download a patch for the class tuning?

No. Class tuning is applied on Blizzard's servers during weekly maintenance. You will see the changes when you log in after realms come back up. Many damage modifiers do not appear on tooltips, so test on a dummy or in a key to see the difference.

When does Fabled: Let Me Solo Him: Kindo'jan end?

Blizzard extended it until weekly maintenance during the week of October 27, 2026. In the US that means Tuesday morning, October 27. Finish it before then. The new class buffs arrive with that same maintenance, so they will not help with this achievement.

What did the October 23 WoW hotfixes change?

They fixed Enhancement Shaman's Surging Elements not appearing on the Cooldown Manager, stopped some Warlock summons from targeting enemies outside combat, fixed Echoing Maul placement in Den of Nalorakk and Fel Spray range in Murder Row, corrected item levels on gear upgraded with Ascendant Venomstones, let players leave combat with the Shade of Seabreaker Skoloth during Hallow's End, and stopped short characters falling through the floor in Jan'alai's Refuge.
