World of Warcraft: Forever just hit the milestone every capped beta tester has been staring at for two weeks. Community Manager Kaivax posted that the Forever Beta would go offline for maintenance on the morning of October 1 PDT, return several hours later with an updated build, and raise the character level cap from 20 to 30. Full development notes were promised the same day after maintenance — and at morning CT publish check those detailed notes were still pending, so this guide locks what Blizzard confirmed, what secondary coverage is claiming, and what you should actually do before and after the servers come back.
This is not a rewrite of the pack ladder or the full 1–60 route. It is the same-day maintenance and cap-raise briefing that sits next to our deeper Forever systems pieces: pre-purchase upgrades & Nov 4 launch, beta population cap / queues, leveling 1–60, camping, Legacy Points, beta how-to-join, Sept 24 class tuning, and week-one known issues.
Primary source for today’s change:
- Beta Update Maintenance - October 1 (US forums, Kaivax)
- Beta Update Maintenance - Evening of 1 October (EU forums mirror)
What Blizzard actually confirmed
Kaivax’s US forum post is short on purpose. The confirmed facts are:
- Forever Beta goes offline for maintenance on the morning of October 1 PDT.
- Servers return several hours later.
- The resume build includes changes and fixes.
- The level cap is raised to 30.
- Detailed notes were promised for the same day after the update (“We’ll have all the details here tomorrow,” linking the Forever beta development-notes thread).
Blizzard did not post an exact downtime clock in the Kaivax thread. “Morning PDT” and “several hours” are the schedule words you get. Plan your login window with slack, not with a stopwatch.
Why a 20 → 30 jump matters in this beta
Forever’s first beta phase deliberately stopped at level 20. That window introduced the Skyborne race and Zephras Isle, plus early dungeon testing around Hall of Thanes and Ruins of Lordaeron, while Blizzard watched queues, class feel, quest pacing, and the new social systems. Raising the cap by ten levels is not a cosmetic number change. It is the second progression gate of a beta that still ends on October 21 before the November 4 launch.
In practical tester terms, level 30 usually means:
- More of each class’s talent and ability ladder becomes testable instead of theoretical.
- World questing and dungeon brackets that sat above the old soft wall come into reach.
- Profession, gear, and camping loops get another ten levels of real feedback instead of “we will see at launch.”
- PvP-minded testers finally have a longer runway to stress world PvP and any battleground content that ships with the phase.
Before maintenance: a sane checklist
If you already have a character sitting at or near 20, use the downtime productively instead of refreshing the realm list every ninety seconds.
- Log out in a city or inn you recognize. Falling through the world was already a beta complaint in the Kaivax thread replies; do not make recovery harder by parking mid-cliff.
- Empty or tidy bags if you have been hoarding level-20 quest greys and profession mats you will not need in the next session. Cap raises often come with new recipes and quest rewards that want inventory space.
- Note unfinished quest chains around your current bracket. Forum replies already asked whether completed-but-capped quests grant backlog XP at 30 — one reply speculated “no,” and Blizzard has not confirmed either way. Do not bank your plan on retroactive XP.
- Screenshot talent pages and keybinds if you are mid-experiment. Builds with changes and fixes can reshuffle UI or ability availability; a quick photo beats memory after a three-hour queue.
- Expect queues when the realms reopen. Our population-cap piece from Sept 28 exists because Forever demand has already forced Blizzard to raise caps mid-test. A level-30 unlock morning is exactly the kind of spike that recreates week-one waiting rooms.
- Do not assume a wipe. Kaivax did not announce a character wipe with this maintenance. Guided.news correctly flags wipe talk and retroactive XP as unconfirmed. Play like your 20 survives unless Blizzard says otherwise.
After maintenance: what to test first at 30
When the launcher stops lying to you and you finally get in, prioritize feedback Blizzard can actually use.
Class and talent feel from 21–30
The whole point of a mid-beta cap raise is ability and talent feedback while there is still time to change numbers before November 4. Level through a few brackets on your main, then swap to an alt of a different armor type if queues allow. Pay attention to:
- New buttons that feel dead on arrival
- Rage / mana / energy starvation that only shows up after 20
- Talent nodes that look strong on the tree and weak in a dungeon pack
- Respec friction after the Sept 24 cooldown-manager and respec-cost work (see our Sept 24 tuning guide)
Dungeons and group content above the old wall
Phase one taught Forever’s early dungeon loop. Level 30 is where you find out whether the next bracket still respects Forever’s published design bias: questing as the spine, dungeon mob XP tuned down relative to older instincts, dungeon quest rewards tuned up. Run the newly available instances with PuGs and with a fixed group if you can. Note trash timers, boss telegraphs, and whether shared tagging still keeps the lobby civil when three groups hit the same quest hub outside.
World pacing and the leveling spine
Our 1–60 leveling guide already sketches zone priorities for the full journey. Use the 21–30 window to stress-test the parts that only exist as theorycrafting while you were stuck at 20: travel time between hubs, campfire / camping profession object uptime, and whether the “pro-social realmless” population model still feels busy when everyone is racing the same new brackets. Cross-check camping loops against the camping guide so your feedback is specific (“this object respawn felt wrong”) instead of vague (“leveling is slow”).
Economy, gold, and Legacy Points with ten more levels
Forever’s economy and Legacy Points systems only get honest stress when players have something new to buy and unlock. Spend a session logging vendor prices, profession craft costs, and Legacy Point sinks you could not reach before. The Legacy Points guide and gold spending priorities pieces are the right notebooks for that pass. Do not blow your entire beta gold stash on novelty if you still want to test multiple specs — but do not hoard so hard that you never generate Auction House or vendor data either.
Darkspear Islands and other secondary claims (label clearly)
Secondary coverage ahead of the maintenance — notably DANAMIC’s Sept 30 beta-phase roundup — has been previewing the next Forever phase as including new talents and class abilities plus the Darkspear Islands battleground. That matches the vibe of what a level-30 phase “should” contain for a Classic-inspired Azeroth with modern PvP ambitions, and it matches podcast chatter about world PvP needing a dedicated map to stress class balance.
It is still not in Kaivax’s October 1 maintenance confirmation.
Until Blizzard’s same-day notes explicitly list Darkspear Islands, new battlegrounds, or a talent unlock table, treat those claims as unconfirmed secondary expectations. Guided.news takes the same cautious line: Blizzard confirmed the higher cap and an updated build, not a content bullet list. If the notes drop later today and name Darkspear Islands, update your test plan. If they do not, do not invent a battleground queue that is not there.
Same rule for any social-media spoilers about specific zone opens, raidable RFC nostalgia requests from the forum thread, or “everyone restarts at 1” panic. Official notes win. Forum wishlists do not.
How this fits the Forever calendar
Keep the dates straight so you do not burn out or mis-buy packs:
- Beta window: September 17 through October 21, 2026 (Blizzard: October 21 is the last full day of testing)
- Today’s milestone: October 1 maintenance → level cap 30
- Early Name Reservation: October 27–November 3 with qualifying upgrade purchase (details in the pre-purchase guide)
- Invite-A-Friend Launch Codes: emailed starting around October 20 for the Nov 4–11 window (no beta on those codes)
- Full launch: November 4, 2026, 3:00 p.m. PST — Forever access included with active WoW Subscription / Game Time
Access reminder if you are still outside the beta
Guaranteed beta access still rides primarily on the Skyborne Epic Pack or Warcraft Forever Collection, plus selected opt-in / friends-and-family / press invites. Subscription alone is enough for Forever on November 4; it is not a free beta ticket by itself. If you are deciding whether the remaining October window justifies a pack, read the pack ladder and Game Time footnotes in our pre-purchase upgrades guide and the join steps in the beta how-to-join overview. Do not buy a pack solely because Twitter said Darkspear Islands is “definitely tonight.”
Population, queues, and the Sept 28 context
Forever’s first weeks already forced Blizzard to raise population caps while players reported multi-thousand queues and stream numbers that made Azeroth look like a concert. The Sept 28 population-cap article is the living log of that pressure. A level-cap unlock is a demand multiplier: everyone who was parked at 20, everyone who was waiting for “real” talents, and a chunk of lurkers who only care about PvP will try to log in the same afternoon.
Practical expectations:
- Stagger login attempts instead of hammering reconnect
- Use the downtime to patch the client fully so you are not downloading the new build inside the login queue
- If you get in, stay in for a focused test block rather than relogging for screenshots
- Report bugs with character name, zone, and reproduction steps — “game broken” tickets help nobody
What to do if the notes drop later today
When Kaivax (or the linked development-notes thread) publishes the October 1 details, read them in this order:
- Level cap and character handling — confirm no wipe, confirm whether XP backlog exists
- Class / talent / spell changes — rebuild your 21–30 test route
- Bug fixes — check whether your personal blockers from week one are named
- New content list — zones, dungeons, battlegrounds, systems
- Known issues — decide what not to waste an evening on
We will not invent a fake patch-notes section here to look complete. Pending means pending.
Soft priorities for different player types
Main-ready raiders and dungeon rats: Push 21–30 on your intended launch main, log dungeon notes, then park and rest. Launch is November 4; you do not need five alts at 30 in beta.
PvP-first testers: Level enough to unlock whatever PvP content the notes actually enable. If Darkspear Islands is real in the notes, that is your session. If it is not, world PvP and duels still generate balance data.
Profession and economy players: Treat 21–30 as a market lab. Craft, gather, camp, and price-check. Cross-link the camping and gold making guides so your notes are structured.
Skyborne / Zephras collectors: You already lived the race fantasy in phase one. Use the new levels to see how Skyborne kits feel once more abilities are online, and keep housing / cosmetic goals for the retail-side rewards that ship with packs rather than beta-only toys.
Burned-out week-one addicts: It is legal to skip tonight. The beta runs to October 21. A clean Saturday test on a rested brain beats a delirious October 1 screenshot that teaches you nothing.

Final take for October 1
Forever’s beta just stopped being a level-20 theme park and became a level-30 stress test. Blizzard confirmed the maintenance window, the updated build, and the cap raise. Detailed notes were still pending at morning CT check. Secondary talk about new talents and Darkspear Islands is interesting and not yet official. Log out somewhere safe, patch while you wait, then spend your first hours after login on feedback that can still change November 4 — not on racing five alts to a temporary ceiling.
Primary confirmation remains Kaivax on the US Forever beta forums. When the notes post updates, read that thread first and adjust this checklist second.
Frequently Asked Questions
When does the Forever Beta level cap rise to 30?
After maintenance on the morning of October 1, 2026 PDT. Kaivax said the beta returns several hours later with the cap raised to 30. Exact start and end times were not posted.
Did Blizzard publish full patch notes with the maintenance announcement?
Not in the initial Kaivax post. The announcement promised all the details later the same day on the Forever beta development-notes thread. At morning CT publish check, those detailed October 1 notes were still pending.
Is there a character wipe with the October 1 update?
Blizzard has not announced a wipe in the maintenance post. Do not plan around a wipe unless an official note says otherwise.
Will quests I completed at level 20 give backlog XP when the cap rises?
Unconfirmed. Forum players asked; speculative replies said probably not. Wait for the official notes before assuming retroactive experience.
Is the Darkspear Islands battleground confirmed for this build?
Not by Kaivax’s October 1 post. Secondary coverage has previewed Darkspear Islands and new talents/abilities for the level-30 phase. Treat those as unconfirmed until Blizzard’s notes list them.
How long does the Forever beta last after this update?
Official testing runs through October 21, 2026. Full Forever launch is November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST.
Do I need a pre-purchase pack to play after the cap raises?
You need whatever access already lets you into the beta. Pack rules have not changed with this maintenance. Launch access on November 4 is separate and included with active Subscription / Game Time — see the pre-purchase guide.
Should I expect queues when the servers return?
Yes, plan for them. Forever already saw heavy queues and population-cap raises in September. A level-30 unlock morning is a natural login spike. Details and prior context are in our population-cap article.
What should I test first at level 30?
Class/talent feel from 21–30, newly available dungeons, quest pacing, camping/profession loops, and any PvP content the notes actually enable. Keep bug reports specific. Do not invent content that is not in the notes.
Where is the official maintenance post?
Beta Update Maintenance - October 1 on the US WoW forums, with an EU forums mirror.
