WoW Forever Beta Sept 24 Guide: Class Tuning, Cooldown Manager & Respec Costs
QUICK ANSWER · Forever Beta Sept 24
• When / build: September 24, 2026 Forever beta client 1.60.1.70009 (fifth beta client).
• Respec: Temporary beta cost of 1 silver if you have not recently changed talents; rises after the first reset, then drops back to 1 silver after 1 hour.
• Cooldown Manager: Off by default under Options → Gameplay Enhancement; testable for Druid, Mage, Priest, Warrior, Warlock; no spell ranks yet.
• Big hits: Druid Wrath ~+50% and heal HOTs can crit; Paladin Holy Strike weapon% and CD rework; Warrior Slam 18s CD + Bloodthrill double rates; Shaman totem stacking rules and Elemental talent swap.
• Also: Gnome Eureka → 10% resource discount; wands no longer scale with spell damage; Wizard Oil reverted to Classic Era values.

The Forever beta just got its first real class-tuning pass. On September 24, 2026, Blizzard pushed a new build and published a long official Forever beta development notes update covering temporary respec pricing, the Cooldown Manager rollout, racial and item changes, gamepad flyouts, and a dense list of class buffs and nerfs. Community trackers put the client at 1.60.1.70009, the fifth Forever beta build after 69876, 69893, 69913, and 69977.

This guide is the practical field notes for testers already on Zephras, Coldridge, or the classic starting zones: what changed, what to retest tonight, and which known issues still sit on the Cooldown Manager. Secondary roundups from Wowhead and wowclassicforever.info match the same notes. Where PCGamesN reports an upcoming level-cap raise, that is attributed as reporting, not as a Blizzard post in this build's notes.

If you are still deciding whether Forever is the Classic-plus realm you want at launch, our Forever beta how-to-join guide covers packs, opt-in invites, and the week-1 testing window.

Temporary beta respec: 1 silver, then a cool-down tax

Talent experimentation is the point of a class-tuning week, so Blizzard temporarily cheapened resets for the beta only:

  • If you have not recently changed talents, a re-spec costs 1 silver.
  • After that first reset, the subsequent cost is much higher.
  • The cost drops back to 1 silver after 1 hour.
That is a deliberate anti-spam valve. You can still cycle builds inside a play session, but you cannot thrash the trainer every pull for free. Treat the hour window as part of your test plan: pick a tree, run a dungeon or a leveling circuit, then swap after the discount returns. Blizzard is clear this pricing is temporary for the Beta only.

Cooldown Manager: how to turn it on and what to feedback

Forever's Cooldown Manager is meant to pull critical cooldown and buff information off the default bars and into a fully customizable location. Important details from the official notes:

  • It is disabled by default.
  • Enable it in Options → Gameplay Enhancement.
  • Available for testing on Druid, Mage, Priest, Warrior, and Warlock.
  • Additional classes will open in future updates.
  • It does not yet support spell ranks (promised for a later beta build).
  • Blizzard's top ask right now: which spells you wish were tracked by default.

Known Cooldown Manager issues in this build

The Sept 24 known-issues block is specific. Expect these while you test:

  • Banes and Curses do not track correctly if you drop a target and re-acquire one that already has the effect.
  • Healthstone cooldown cannot be tracked.
  • Priest tracks all spells by default (too noisy for many testers).
  • Arcane Blast cannot be tracked.
  • Mana gems need an extra Mage cast before cooldown tracking starts cleanly.
  • Pet cooldowns cannot be tracked.
  • Item enhancements such as Windfury or rogue poisons cannot be tracked.
  • Creating or changing party composition may transfer players to a different world instance.
  • Stormwind minimap display issues remain.
  • Personal Resource Display still does not show combo points.
If you are filing feedback, lead with default-tracked spell lists and rank support. Those are the two design questions Blizzard called out as highest priority.

Druid: Wrath finally hits, and HOTs can crit

Balance and Restoration both get meaningful quality-of-life plus damage/healing truth:

  • Wrath base damage increased by about 50%.
  • Rejuvenation, Tranquility, and Wild Growth can now land critical hits (bug corrections).
  • Thorns dynamically updates from the caster's spell power, reverting to base values if the caster cannot be found or is too far away.
  • Feral: Mangle is renamed Primal Bite because its signature debuff is gone. Talents that referenced Mangle now reference Primal Bite. Primal Fury returns to the Blood Frenzy name and icon. Feral Charge (Cat) can no longer be cast on allies.
If you were leveling Balance before this build, retest questing pace in Teldrassil or Mulgore with the Wrath buff alone. Resto dungeon healers should log HOT crit behavior instead of assuming pre-patch numbers.

Paladin: Holy Strike becomes a real rotation button

Paladin notes are among the densest in the patch:

  • Holy Strike weapon-damage percentages by rank are now 25% / 29% / 32% / 36% / 39% / 43% / 46% / 50% (was 25/25/30/30/35/35/40/40). Blizzard's goal is every new rank feeling like an upgrade while leveling.
  • Holy: Holy Strike cooldown 10 seconds (was 12). Improved Holy Strike is removed and made baseline because it felt mandatory early in a healing tree.
  • Holy Power now also increases Holy Strike critical strike chance by 15% while keeping prior effects.
  • Righteous Fury Holy threat increase is 60% (was 90%).
  • Retribution: Vengeance activates from non-periodic critical strikes, max stacks 3 (was 5). Two-Handed Weapon Specialization is 2/4/6% (was 3/6/9%). Sacred Arbiter boosts Holy Strike by 20% (was 10%). Twist of Light also cuts Seal mana costs by 20%.
  • Retribution Aura dynamically scales with spell power. Consecration received multiple Z-axis and application fixes.
Tank players should specifically retest dungeon threat after the Righteous Fury cut, especially with Consecration behaving more consistently. Holy and hybrid testers should feel whether the baseline 10-second Holy Strike replaces the old talent tax.

Warrior: Slam slows down, Bloodthrill wakes up

Arms and Protection both moved:

  • Slam cooldown increased to 18 seconds (was 15). Improved Slam reduces that cooldown by 1.5 / 3 seconds.
  • Bloodthrill activation chance doubled to 4/8/12/16/20% (was 2/4/6/8/10%), and it only activates from main-hand melee attacks, including Cleave and Heroic Strike.
  • Protection swapped Bastion (row 5) and Focused Rage (row 6) so Focused Rage arrives earlier before Shield Slam.
  • Sunder Armor threat values were corrected across ranks, with a small Attack Power threat bump.
The Slam change is the flashpoint in forums. With Improved Slam maxed you are back near the old cadence; without the talent, Slam is slower. Pair that with the Bloodthrill double-up and decide whether Arms feels better or just differently gated.

Shaman: totems stop stacking, Elemental path reshuffles

Shaman got both systems cleanup and leveling help:

  • Flametongue Totem no longer has a duration, replaces instantly, and cannot stack with itself, Flametongue Weapon, or Windfury Totem.
  • Tranquil Air, Windfury, and Grace of Air no longer stack together even from different Shamans in the same group.
  • Lightning Bolt ranks 3 and 4 deal more damage so each rank is always an upgrade despite cast-time changes.
  • Elemental: Elemental Fury (row 3) and Elemental Alacrity (row 6) swap places so the functional leveling talent arrives earlier. Blizzard notes Enhancement loses some early spell crit damage and plans to compensate later.
  • Lava Burst ranks 1 and 2 are buffed to about 10% more base damage than the Lightning Bolt rank learned around the same level.
  • Enhancement: Rage of the Far Seer no longer increases spell casting speed.
  • Restoration: Riptide can crit.
Group shamans should treat air and weapon-imbue totems as exclusive choices now, not stack puzzles. Elemental testers should rebuild around the earlier Alacrity timing.

Mage, Priest, Hunter, Warlock, Rogue

Mage

  • Arcane Missiles checks line of sight once at channel start, not per missile.
  • Fire: Wake of Fire buff duration 30 seconds (was 20). Hot Streak 20 seconds (was 15). Ignite no longer double-dips on percent damage modifiers.
The Wake of Fire and Hot Streak duration bumps are explicitly for leveling smoothness between mana restores.

Priest

  • Renew can crit.
  • Power Word: Shield can always overwrite an existing shield on a target that does not have Weakened Soul.
  • Race-spec notes: Gnome Contingency Plan can crit; Confounding Flash has a clearer Holy-oriented cast visual; Night Elf Starshards correctly gains Twilight Focus pushback resistance; Undead Dark Sacrifice no longer breaks CC that breaks on damage, and its tooltip correctly shows Spirit scaling.

Hunter

  • Furious Howl Attack Power bonus reduced 40%.
  • Sonic Blast is properly available to Bat pets.
  • Tame Beast no longer works on beasts above the Hunter's level.
  • Leaving Lone Wolf no longer applies a −4% damage penalty while a pet is active.
  • Survival: Lacerating Strikes can crit; Strider Kick grants 30% movement speed for 3 seconds.

Warlock and Rogue

  • Life Tap tooltip corrected (Life converted; scales with Spirit only as stated).
  • Voidwalker Sacrifice correctly scales with 10% of the Warlock's spell healing.
  • Rogue Sap correctly flags the Rogue for PvP when used on a PvP-flagged target.

Racials and items that change every leveling build

Gnome Eureka

Eureka on every class is now a 10% discount on Mana, Rage, or Energy abilities. That is a major relative nerf for classes that previously saw much larger discounts in earlier beta clients, and it compresses racial power gaps for casters and melee alike.

Tauren, Human, Undead notes

  • Tauren Cultivation now has a player-level requirement per herb: herb pick-level requirement divided by 5. Herbs above 300 Herbalism skill can be Cultivated at player level 60.
  • Touch of the Grave no longer breaks CC or activates from abilities without a damage component. Shadow Word: Pain activates it on cast, not ticks. Distract and Pickpocket no longer trigger it.
  • Human Will to Survive visual now matches Dispel Magic rather than Will of the Forsaken.

Wands and Wizard Oil

  • Wands no longer gain additional damage from the user's spell damage. Wand leveling for casters is meaningfully weaker than recent Forever beta builds.
  • Wizard Oil values revert to Classic Era: Minor 8, Lesser 16, plain Wizard Oil 24 spell power. Brilliant Wizard Oil is unchanged.
If you were planning caster wand-and-oil leveling curves from week-1 numbers, scrap those logs and gather fresh ones on 1.60.1.70009.

Quality-of-life: campfires, gamepads, Elwynn candles

Outside pure combat, three clusters matter for daily testing:

  • Campfires: You can obtain the Campfire buff while sitting, sitting in a chair, sleeping, lying down, or kneeling. You can also buff others, cast, and craft while waiting for the buff. The old stand-up interrupt is gone.
  • Gamepad: Class flyouts landed for Druid shapeshift, Hunter/Warlock pets, Paladin auras, and Warrior stances. Pet bars no longer replace the bottom gamepad action bar. New options include compact action bar, fixed party targeting, and modifier-side swaps.
  • Elwynn Forest: Jasperlode and Fargodeep mines were "a little more deadly than intended for solo players," so Blizzard is "taking their candles away" and does not anticipate fallout from that theft. Mother Fang respawns slower and does not always drop a green. Several other early-zone spawn and quest fixes shipped the same night.
Mac display artifacts, a memory leak causing gradual performance loss, and an unintended fog-disable setting also received fixes. If you were logging FPS death spirals over long sessions, retest after this build.

What to test before the next cap raise

PCGamesN reports that Blizzard plans to raise the beta level cap to 30 about two weeks into the test, which would land around Thursday, October 1, 2026, along with new abilities, talents, profession items, and the Excavation Site dungeon. Treat that as secondary reporting until it appears in Blizzard's own cadence posts. The current official notes for Sept 24 do not themselves announce the cap raise.

Practical checklist while the cap is still 20:

  • Respec into the newly tuned tree for your main, run one full dungeon, then swap after the 1-hour discount.
  • Enable Cooldown Manager on an eligible class and file default-track feedback with spell names and ranks.
  • Retest tank threat on Paladin after the Righteous Fury change.
  • Log Mage Fire and Balance Druid leveling DPS with the new durations and Wrath buff.
  • Verify Shaman totem exclusivity in a two-shaman party.
  • Re-benchmark wand auto-attacks without spell-damage scaling.
For the broader week-1 bug picture that still sits underneath this tuning pass, keep the Forever beta known issues week-1 guide handy while you file tickets.

Frequently Asked Questions

What build is the September 24 Forever beta update?

Community trackers identify the client as 1.60.1.70009, the fifth Forever beta client after 69876, 69893, 69913, and 69977. Confirm in-game or via Battle.net after you update.

How does the temporary beta respec cost work?

If you have not recently changed talents, a re-spec costs 1 silver. After the first reset the cost becomes much higher, then drops back to 1 silver after one hour. Blizzard states this is temporary for the beta only.

How do I enable the Cooldown Manager?

Open Options → Gameplay Enhancement. The feature is off by default. It is currently testable for Druid, Mage, Priest, Warrior, and Warlock, without spell-rank support yet.

Which classes got the biggest Sept 24 buffs?

Balance Druid (Wrath ~+50%), Holy/Ret Paladin (Holy Strike rank curve, baseline 10s CD, Sacred Arbiter), Elemental Shaman (Lava Burst ranks, talent row swap), and Fire Mage (Wake of Fire / Hot Streak durations) are the clearest winners on paper. Always verify in your own logs.

Why was Mangle renamed Primal Bite?

Feral's Mangle lost its signature debuff, so Blizzard renamed the ability Primal Bite and updated talent references. The Primal Fury talent also returns to the Blood Frenzy name and icon.

Did Righteous Fury get nerfed?

Yes. Righteous Fury's Holy threat increase is 60% (was 90%). Consecration and Retribution Aura fixes and Holy Strike buffs are meant to reshape tank threat rather than leave the old multiplier alone.

Do wands still scale with spell damage in Forever beta?

No. As of this build, wands no longer gain additional damage from the user's spell damage. Minor, Lesser, and plain Wizard Oil also revert to Classic Era spell-power values (8 / 16 / 24).

When does the Forever beta level cap rise to 30?

PCGamesN reports an expected raise to level 30 around October 1, 2026, about two weeks into the beta, with more abilities and the Excavation Site dungeon. Confirm against Blizzard's next official cadence post before planning around that date.

Where should I read the primary patch text?

Start with Blizzard's WoW Forever Beta Development Notes - Updated September 24. For a structured secondary digest, use Wowhead's Cooldown Manager and class-change roundup.

Forever's first tuning week is exactly what betas are for: cheap respecs, an opt-in Cooldown Manager, and enough class variance that old week-1 spreadsheets are already wrong. Update the client, enable the tracker on an eligible class, and spend the silver while the discount is still temporary.
