VALORANT Champions Shanghai playoffs hit Day 5 on Sunday October 11 with the two Lower Round 2 elimination series, and both were final by about 9 AM CT. 100 Thieves swept the reigning champions NRG 2-0, winning Sunset 14-12 in overtime and Haven 13-4, which means no back-to-back Champions winner this year. Then G2 Esports beat T1 2-1, taking Lotus 13-11, dropping Abyss 10-13 and closing Ascent 13-6 after winning all seven second-half rounds. NRG and T1 are out with $85,000 each. The bracket now has four teams left, and Lower Round 3 is a rematch between 100 Thieves and G2.
Every score, veto and stat line below comes from the VLR.gg NRG vs 100 Thieves match page, the VLR.gg G2 vs T1 match page, VLR's written 100 Thieves vs NRG recap and the VLR.gg playoff bracket. Round-by-round detail is read from VLR's round log for each map, and I cross-checked the G2 vs T1 map scores against rib.gg, which matches VLR on all three maps. Patch 13.05. VLR had not posted a written recap of G2 vs T1 when I wrote this, so that series is described from the round log and stat tables only.

100 Thieves 2-0 NRG: The Champions Paris Winners Go Out
NRG came into this series as the team that won Champions Paris. They lost Sunset in overtime and then got run over on Haven. VLR's recap calls NRG the first Americas team knocked out of Champions Shanghai.
Veto and scoreboard
The veto on VLR went: 100 Thieves banned Lotus, NRG banned Ascent, 100 Thieves picked Sunset, NRG picked Haven, 100 Thieves banned Abyss, NRG banned Split, and Summit stayed unplayed.
Map 1, Sunset: a 14-12 overtime that NRG started 3-0
100 Thieves picked Sunset, and the round log shows NRG leading early. NRG won the first three rounds on attack, 100 Thieves took rounds four and five, and NRG got to 4-2 before 100 Thieves won four straight on defense for a 7-5 half. VLR's recap says a thrifty round with Sheriffs in round four brought life back to the Thieves, and it credits Cypher utility on B, Timotino's multikills and vora's fragging for the defensive half.
The second half was a race. NRG won the pistol, the bonus round and the eco round to move 8-7 ahead. 100 Thieves answered by taking four of the next five, leading 12-10 after round 22, which was match point. NRG held on in rounds 23 and 24 (the recap mentions a textbook 2v1 and a B-site stop) and the map went to 12-12. In overtime, 100 Thieves won rounds 25 and 26 and ended it 14-12.
On the scoreboard, keiko (Chamber, 22/16/6, 1.28) and vora (Fade, 20/16/8, 1.28) topped the server on rating, while Asuna on Phoenix posted 21 kills and 6 first kills. NRG's Ethan on Kayo and skuba on Omen sat at 0.72 and 0.77 for the map.
Map 2, Haven: NRG's pick turns into a blowout
NRG picked Haven and started 2-0 on attack, with the recap crediting five early kills from keiko. After that, NRG only won rounds six and ten, so the half ended 8-4 to 100 Thieves, who were defending. The second half was five straight rounds for 100 Thieves, starting with the pistol win, to reach 13-4 in 35:02.
The individual numbers are lopsided:
- Asuna on Phoenix: 18/10/8, 318 ACS, 1.62 rating
- Timotino on Neon: 16/8/4, 1.33
- bang on Omen: 15/9/8, 1.23, 5 first kills
- Cryocells on Cypher: 13/7/2, 1.19
- mada on Neon for NRG: 4/15/3, 0.25, with 8 first deaths
Series stats
The two clearest lines are Asuna's 1.35 over the series, which VLR's recap says cements his place as one of the best Phoenix players in the world, and mada's 12 first deaths against 5 first kills. NRG still got a 1.11 from brawk and 1.01 from keiko, so the story is more about a team losing its entry fights than about one person.
G2 2-1 T1: Seven Straight Rounds Close the Decider
G2 and T1 played the longer, messier series, and the map scores tell the story. Each team won on a map the other one picked. The veto on VLR: T1 banned Split, G2 banned Summit, T1 picked Lotus, G2 picked Abyss, T1 banned Haven, G2 banned Sunset, Ascent remained.
Scoreboard
Map 1, Lotus (T1 pick): G2 hold on 13-11
G2 started on attack and won rounds one and two, T1 won rounds three and four, and the teams traded rounds until G2 won ten, eleven and twelve to go into the half 7-5. T1 won rounds 13 and 14 on attack to tie 7-7, G2 answered with 8-7 and 9-7, and T1 later won rounds 20, 21 and 22 to tie it at 11-11. G2 closed with a CT round and a defuse to finish 13-11.
The star was jawgemo on Raze: 27/14/6, 333 ACS, 1.84 rating on Lotus, with 5 first kills. For T1, Meteor on Chamber put up 27/13/0 and a 1.51, but T1's other four players were all under a 1.0 rating, with stax the closest at 0.96, so there was no second source of damage. BuZz had 6 first kills and 5 first deaths, a high-variance entry map.
Map 2, Abyss (G2 pick): T1 win 13-10 on a five-round run
G2 picked Abyss and opened 2-0 on defense. Then T1 won rounds three through seven, five straight, to lead 5-2. G2 answered with four in a row, 6-5, before T1 pulled the half level at 6-6. After the switch, T1 took round 13 with a defuse, G2 won 14 and 15, T1 won 16, G2 won 17, and then T1 won rounds 18 through 21, four straight, to make it 12-9. G2 got one back at 10-12 and T1 closed it with a defuse in round 23.
iZu on Sova led T1: 21/13/3, 251 ACS, 1.38, with 50% headshots. T1's Munchkin on Omen (1.10) and BuZz on Waylay (1.04) both cleared 1.0. On the G2 side, jawgemo (Neon, 1.22) and valyn (Harbor, 0.95) did the damage, while trent, BABYBAY and leaf all sat at 0.73 or below.
This was the map where G2's own pick turned on them. T1 won 7 of 11 rounds on defense in the second half, and G2's attack only scored four rounds in total after the switch.
Map 3, Ascent (decider): T1 get to 6-6, then score nothing
Ascent was the remaining map, and it started with T1 on defense. T1 won rounds one and two, G2 took round three, T1 round four, and then G2 won rounds five, six and seven on attack. After the T1 round-eight and nine wins, G2 took ten and eleven, and T1 round twelve for a 6-6 half.
The second half was one-way traffic. G2 went to the defensive side and won every round from 13 to 19 for 13-6. T1 scored zero rounds on attack in the second half, which VLR's half tallies show as 6/0. Four of those seven G2 wins were defuses.
leaf on Vyse had the best map of anyone on the server: 21/12/5, 321 ACS, 1.54 rating. BABYBAY on Chamber added 19/11/2 at 1.50, valyn (Omen) posted 1.30 and trent (Sova) 1.15. G2's jawgemo was the odd one out at 0.60, with 11 kills and 17 deaths on Neon, which shows how much the decider rested on the other four.
Series stats
Meteor led the entire series in kills with 60, and jawgemo had 14 first kills, the most in the match, but the series was decided by the Ascent defense. A few lines that stand out:
- stax had 42 assists for T1, the most in the series by a wide margin (valyn was next at 31).
- BuZz had 13 first kills and 12 first deaths, so T1's entry fights were roughly an even trade rather than an advantage.
- leaf finished the series at 0.91 despite 21 kills on the final map, because he sat at 0.64 on Lotus and 0.67 on Abyss.
- rib.gg lists some individual ratings differently than VLR (for example jawgemo's Lotus line is 1.56 there versus 1.84 on VLR), so this guide uses VLR's numbers throughout.
What Day 5 Means for the Bracket
Four teams remain, and the shape of the finals weekend is set.
- Vitality (EMEA) and LOUD (Americas) are in the Upper Final. Whoever loses drops into the Lower Final and still has a guaranteed top-three finish.
- 100 Thieves and G2 (both Americas) play Lower Round 3. The loser takes 4th place and $130,000. The winner moves to the Lower Final against the Upper Final loser.
- No Pacific team is left after T1's exit, and no Chinese team made the playoffs.
Those are our CT conversions of VLR's PDT stamps, and VLR lists the Upper Final as a Bo3 and the Lower and Grand Finals as Bo5. Stamps can move, so check the VLR page before you set an alarm.
Lower Round 3 Preview: 100 Thieves vs G2
This is the second meeting in eight days. On October 8, G2 swept 100 Thieves 2-0, winning Abyss 13-5 and Ascent 13-11, which dropped 100 Thieves into the lower bracket in the first place. Since then, 100 Thieves beat Nongshim 2-1 and now NRG 2-0, while G2 lost 0-2 to Vitality and beat T1 2-1.
What the match data suggests, without pretending it predicts anything:
- Ascent has been kind to G2. They won it 13-11 on Oct 8 and 13-6 today. 100 Thieves beat Nongshim on Ascent 13-1 on Day 3.
- Abyss was a G2 pick both times, with mixed results. They won it 13-5 against 100 Thieves and lost it 10-13 to T1 today.
- 100 Thieves have been strongest when they get defense rounds. They won Haven 8-4 on defense in the first half and Sunset 7-5.
- G2 have been strongest on defense on Ascent. They won 7-0 in the second half against T1.
- Asuna and vora lead the 100T numbers (1.35 and 1.22 over the NRG series), while G2's scoring has come from jawgemo (1.27 over the series) and leaf and BABYBAY on Ascent.
What Happened to the Defending Champions
NRG won Champions Paris and came through Group D as the top seed. They beat T1 2-0 on Day 1, lost 1-2 to LOUD on Day 4, and then lost 0-2 to 100 Thieves. Their series stats tell you what went wrong: 12 first deaths for mada, a 0.25 rating on Haven, and series ratings of 0.71 and 0.75 for skuba and Ethan. VLR's recap says 100 Thieves "crushed NRG's dream of becoming the first-ever back-to-back Champions winners".
That recap also adds one more note, that Sunset's overtime ended "just as fast as it started" after two near-flawless 100 Thieves rounds. NRG did lead at several points on Sunset, 3-0, 4-2 and 8-7, and converted pistol, bonus and eco rounds in the second half, but could not hold it in the closing rounds.
What Happened to T1
T1 came through Group A as the number two seed, beat Paper Rex 2-1 on Day 3 after trailing 3-10 on Summit, and then lost the best-of-three to G2 despite 60 kills from Meteor. T1 finish 5th-6th, the same as NRG, and they were the last Pacific team in the field. The decider came down to one half: they scored 6 rounds in the first half of Ascent and none in the second.
