The Worlds 2026 Play-In comes down to one series. Karmine Corp play MVK Esports today, Sunday October 18, at 1:00 PM CT, best-of-five, and the winner takes the only Swiss Stage spot the Play-In offers. It is a rematch from Friday, when KC swept MVK 3-0 in the upper bracket final. MVK earned the second shot by beating FURIA 3-1 on Saturday, which knocked out the CBLOL side two days after FURIA had eliminated Cloud9.
This series has not been played yet at the time of publishing. Nothing below is a result for today. What you get is a full recap of Day 2 and Day 3 with game-by-game numbers, what changed between the two KC vs MVK meetings, the keys to the final, where to watch and what the winner walks into on October 23.
The match time comes from the official LoL Esports schedule, which lists KC vs MVK at 18:00 UTC. Stats are from Games of Legends (gol.gg). Recaps and quotes are from GosuGamers, Strafe and DPM.LOL, and format details are from Riot's Worlds 2026 primer. All times are Central Daylight Time (CT, UTC-5). Where the Play-In Bracket Stands
The Play-In is a four-team, best-of-five, double elimination bracket, and only one team leaves Los Angeles for Texas. Our Play-In preview and the Worlds 2026 schedule and format guide explain the bracket rules in full. The short version for today: KC came through the upper side unbeaten, MVK came through the lower side, and there is no bracket reset. One series decides it.
Day 2 Recap: Friday, October 16
Karmine Corp 3-0 MVK Esports (upper bracket final)
Karmine Corp needed five games and a comeback from 1-2 down to beat Cloud9 on Thursday. Against MVK they looked like a different team. Over three games KC out-killed MVK 44 to 22 per gol.gg, and they never trailed in the series.
Game 1. DPM.LOL notes that MVK came in "swapping picks between top and mid lane in draft," and gol.gg has Chika on K'Sante and Kratos on Ambessa in this game. DPM.LOL says it "changed little." Caliste's Draven picked up a double kill in the third minute, and KC used the other side of the map whenever MVK grouped, stacking four dragons and finishing with a 12.9k gold lead in 30:14. MVK took one tower all game.
Game 2. Down 1-0, MVK made the biggest change of the series. Jungler Gury sat out and SanSan came in for what DPM.LOL calls "the first tier-one game of his career." On Qiyana, behind a draft built to fight early, he ran ganks top and bot and MVK got first blood and first tower. It did not last. Once the game turned into five-versus-five fights, KC won them. Kyeahoo's Ahri went 6/1/6, Yike's Lee Sin 5/1/8, and KC won the kill count 21-11 in 33:03.
Game 3. MVK went back to the Kog'Maw mid that Chika played in their Day 1 sweep of FURIA. This time it had very little room. DPM.LOL says Yike "punished his positioning early." Canna had KC's best line on Kennen at 6/2/1, including a kill off a SanSan gank aimed at him, and while MVK fought around Elder Dragon, DPM.LOL reports that Kyeahoo and Canna ended the series with a backdoor. Chika finished 3/6/1, and KC closed it 14-7 in 36:13.
Over the series, Busio had 30 assists in three games and Yike went 11/3/17, both per gol.gg. KC were the side that looked settled. MVK showed a lot of their ideas: the top and mid flex, the jungle swap and the Kog'Maw.
FURIA 3-1 Cloud9 Kia (lower bracket, elimination)
This was the first elimination series of Worlds 2026 and the first upset. DPM.LOL had picked Cloud9 to win 3-0. Cloud9 had pushed KC to five games, while FURIA had just been swept by MVK.
Cloud9 won Game 1 their usual way, controlling dragons, taking all five including the Elder, and winning 19-10 in 39:52. From Game 2, FURIA's drafts made them pay for slowing the game down. DPM.LOL describes FURIA answering with "drafts built for the late game," with every minute Cloud9 waited giving FURIA's carries more time to scale. A lone dive by Blaber in Game 2 handed FURIA Baron and the equaliser, per DPM.LOL.
DPM.LOL named jungler Tatu its MVP of the series, from "a monstrous Cho'Gath to a hyper-proactive Vi." Strafe highlighted Tutsz going 6/2/7 on Viktor in Game 3 and Ayu going 7/0/5 on Miss Fortune in the 28:36 closer. Over the series, gol.gg has Ayu at 18/6/19 and Tatu at 12/6/28.
Cloud9 finish 19th, last of the 19 teams at Worlds, and DPM.LOL notes it was a fourth straight series loss to FURIA. Under the ruleset prize table, 19th pays $30,000.
Day 3 Recap: MVK Esports 3-1 FURIA
Saturday's lower bracket final was a rematch of Thursday, and MVK won it again. GosuGamers reports MVK "wasted little time asserting their dominance in Game 1," and the first two games went exactly that way.
Game 1 took 31:08. Kratos had the best line on the map on Zaahen at 8/1/8, Chika played Cassiopeia and went 5/1/11, and MVK took eight towers to FURIA's one.
Game 2 was faster, 27:24, and FURIA did not take a single tower. Harky went 9/0/4 on Jhin, and the Kog'Maw mid came out again, with Chika finishing 4/2/7. That makes three series in a row where MVK have drafted Kog'Maw for Chika.
Game 3 went the other way. GosuGamers says Ayu stepped up to stop MVK from running away early. His Miss Fortune finished 12/0/3, and FURIA won 21-8 in 36:15 to extend the series.
Game 4 was MVK's cleanest. GosuGamers credits Gury on Wukong with "zoning out FURIA's players and setting up favourable team fights," and he finished 4/0/7. Harky's Corki went 8/2/6 and Chika's Ryze 6/2/7. MVK won 21-8 in 28:09.
Over four games, gol.gg has MVK ahead 68 to 44 on kills. Harky led the series with 22 kills, Chika had 17 with 26 assists, and Siuloong had 51 assists. Note that Gury played all four games here, so the SanSan swap from Friday did not carry over. GosuGamers puts FURIA in 18th place with $40,000.
KC vs MVK: What Changed Since Friday
The 3-0 on Friday is the obvious starting point, but MVK are not the same team that walked into that series. Here is what we can actually point to:
- MVK's jungle is back to Gury. SanSan played Games 2 and 3 on Friday. Gury played every game against FURIA and had his best game on Wukong in the clincher.
- The Kog'Maw mid has a mixed record. Chika is 2-1 on it at this event. It won against FURIA twice and lost against KC once, when Yike went after it early.
- MVK's bot lane is in form. Harky went 22/11/24 against FURIA after 7/6/6 across three games against KC.
- KC have now seen almost every MVK idea. The top and mid flex, the jungle swap and the Kog'Maw have all been on stage, and DPM.LOL already noted after Day 2 that MVK had "shown much of their playbook."
- KC's form went up, not down. After a 3-2 against Cloud9 where they lost the kill count 52-72, they controlled all three games against MVK and won the kill count 44-22.
Keys to the Play-In Final
Fearless Draft applies to every Play-In series, so a champion used by either team earlier in the series cannot be picked again. Over five possible games, champion pool depth matters as much as the first draft.
- KC hold the Right of Dual Selection in Game 1. The ruleset gives the team coming from the upper bracket both side and pick order choice in Game 1 of the final. After that, the loser of each game chooses.
- MVK's early game against KC's mid game. On Friday MVK got first blood in Games 2 and 3 and still lost both. KC were better when fights turned into five-on-five.
- Vision and tempo for Gury. GosuGamers credits MVK's Game 4 win over FURIA to "maintaining vision around the map." KC's jungle and support pairing of Yike and Busio combined for 47 assists against MVK on Friday, so MVK's vision game will be tested far harder than it was against FURIA.
- Caliste and Kyeahoo. KC's carries have scaled into every win they have had here. Caliste was 20/12/23 across the Cloud9 series, per gol.gg.
- Fresh legs. MVK played four games on Saturday. KC had Saturday off.
What the Winner Gets: The Swiss Stage
The Play-In winner is the 16th and final team in the Swiss Stage. According to Riot's primer:
- The Round 1 draw happens right after the Play-In ends today. Teams are split into four tiers, Tier 1 plays Tier 4 and Tier 2 plays Tier 3.
- The Play-In winner is in Tier 4, alongside CTBC Flying Oyster, Invictus Gaming and Dplus Kia.
- Tier 1 is Gen.G, Anyone's Legend, Team Liquid Alienware and G2 Esports. So today's winner opens Swiss against one of those four.
- No same-region matchups in Round 1. If KC win, they cannot draw G2 in Round 1, both being LEC teams. MVK have no LCP team in Tier 1, so any of the four is possible.
- Swiss runs October 23-31 in Allen, Texas. Three wins advances to the Knockouts, three losses eliminates.
Schedule in Central Time
UTC times are from the official LoL Esports schedule; the CT column is our conversion at UTC-5. Riot's primer says Swiss Pick'Ems open today and lock before the first Swiss match on October 23.
