VALORANT Champions Shanghai playoffs Day 2 closed the upper quarterfinals on Thursday October 8 at Jing'an Sports Center, and the Americas keep owning the narrative even when they lose. G2 Esports swept 100 Thieves 2-0 and punched into the upper semifinals. Hours later Team Vitality survived Nongshim RedForce 2-1 on a Haven overtime, kept EMEA's last team in the upper bracket, and set up a Saturday date with G2.

G2 2-0 100 Thieves: The Sweep Ends a Six-Game Streak
Series scoreboard
Series: G2 2-0 100 Thieves. Aggregate rounds: G2 26, 100 Thieves 16. VLR's recap notes this snapped 100T's six-game winning streak dating to early August and pushed G2 to 6-4 all-time against 100 Thieves. It also locks G2 a top-six finish after two straight Champions events at 7th-8th.
Veto
Per VLR.gg: G2 banned Split, 100T banned Lotus, G2 picked Abyss, 100T picked Ascent, G2 banned Sunset, 100T banned Haven, and Summit remained as the unused decider.
Abyss: G2's pick, 13-5
Abyss was G2's home turf for this series. VLR's recap says 100T had not played the map since Americas Kickoff earlier in the year, while Abyss has historically been one of G2's more comfortable maps. G2 ran a double-Controller, double-Duelist look (Astra-Harbor with Waylay-Neon). 100T answered with a Harbor lone-Controller and Phoenix-Jett double-Duelist pairing similar to how they have played Summit and Breeze.
G2 took the pistol and built an early 4-1 lead. trent and leaf led the half with 13 and 12 kills respectively on VLR's map sheet, and G2 went into the break 8-4. 100T won the second-half pistol, then lost a trademark G2 eco: four Stingers and a Sheriff flipped the economy on a wide map and opened the door for G2 to close 13-5. Insider Gaming's map sheet for Abyss highlights leaf at 19/11/6 and trent at 18/9/2, matching VLR's Abyss lines.
Hotspawn adds that G2's fakes repeatedly forced 100T into bad rotates, which is how a map this lopsided happens against a Stage 2 champion.
Ascent: 100T's pick, 13-11
Ascent was supposed to be the problem map for G2. VLR notes 100T went 3-0 on it last split, while G2 had banned it more often than they played it since Stage 2 started. Comps were familiar: 100T's Jett-Phoenix package for Timotino and Asuna, G2's Vyse-Chamber double-Sentinel look for leaf and BABYBAY.
The half ended 6-6. Asuna went 17/7 on 100T's attacker side per VLR's recap. 100T even stole a full thrifty with five Classics. The second half never settled for more than three rounds at a time. VLR's recap singles out a 2v5 from BABYBAY and valyn as a pivotal conversion, and Hotspawn describes a 1v2 clutch from BABYBAY restoring momentum. G2 took four of the final five rounds and closed 13-11.
Asuna and Timotino combined for 49 kills on the map and still lost. That is the story of the series for 100T: individual firepower without the closes.
Series stats (VLR.gg)
trent paced the lobby on the day. leaf and BABYBAY both cleared a 1.10 rating. On the 100T side, Asuna's 1.19 and Timotino's volume were not enough once Abyss went sideways.
Press room notes
VLR's recap quotes BABYBAY on Shanghai crowd support ("we earn the crowd buff"), coach JoshRT on Americas regional mind games in a bracket suddenly packed with Americas teams, and 100T's d00mbr0s on G2 playing slow timings and personal plays that cut 100T off from their usual answers. Those are sourced quotes, not our read.

Vitality 2-1 Nongshim: EMEA Survives Overtime
Series scoreboard
Series: Team Vitality 2-1 Nongshim RedForce. Aggregate rounds: Vitality 31, Nongshim 33. Nongshim won more rounds and still lost the series. That is what a 13-4 stomping on Abyss does to the math, and what a Haven overtime does to the bracket.
Veto
Per VLR.gg: NS banned Lotus, VIT banned Sunset, NS picked Split, VIT picked Abyss, NS banned Ascent, VIT banned Summit, and Haven remained.
Split: Nongshim's pick, Vitality 13-8
Both teams ran double-Duelist Neon-Yoru with Omen-Viper double-Controller, and Vitality put Chronicle on Neon. Nongshim won the second-round force after Vitality took the pistol, a pattern VLR says haunted Vitality's economy early. The half ended 7-5 Nongshim.
Vitality took the second-half pistol and lost only the bonus round the rest of the half. VLR's map sheet shows Vitality at 5/8 half splits and a 13-8 final. Hotspawn frames it as Vitality winning eight of the final nine defensive rounds. Insider Gaming lists Split as 13-6; VLR.gg's match page is 13-8, and that is the score we use everywhere in this guide.
Abyss: Vitality's pick, Nongshim 13-4
Vitality picked Abyss and got run off it. Same pistol-then-eco start, then Nongshim never let go. VLR has Nongshim 8-4 at the half and a perfect second half for a 13-4 close. Ivy on Omen and Xross on attack were the headlines in VLR's recap. Insider Gaming calls out three textbook retakes and a flawless Nongshim half. Hotspawn says NS controlled the map from the opening rounds. The sweep streak that opened these playoffs ended here.
Haven: 14-12 in overtime
Haven was the map Nongshim were favored on from recent form, including their work against Karmine Corp. Vitality changed the look: Neon-Yoru double-Duelist with Derke on Chamber. Pistol dominance kept Vitality alive. They entered the half down only 7-5 despite Nongshim looking strong attacking B.
Vitality won another pistol and started to pull away, then Nongshim forced a 9-9 and later an 11-11. VLR's recap describes Jamppi winning a 1v1 post-plant that looked like map point, then a Killjoy ultimate from Nongshim detaining the site and forcing overtime. Hotspawn also credits a massive Jamppi clutch for Vitality momentum. Overtime opened with Derke finding Operator impact; Nongshim's double-Operator answer died to an early spam kill. Vitality closed 14-12.
Insider Gaming's close adds Chronicle's late individual stretch as the final shove into the upper semis. Sayonara told VLR's press room the Shanghai air feels different from Stage 2, and that the team is finally playing as a unit again.
Series stats (VLR.gg)
Sayonara's 51 kills and 1.28 rating led Vitality. Derke was right behind at 50 kills. For Nongshim, Ivy's 55 kills and 1.27 rating were the best line on either side of the server, and it still ended in the lower bracket. Hotspawn notes Vitality won 5 of 6 pistols across the series, which matches the snowball SilKanoN described in VLR's press room.
Press room notes
Nongshim coach SilKanoN told VLR they could not win pistols and that the team wins hard or falls hard. Rb previewed the lower-bracket meeting with 100 Thieves by calling Americas the strongest region at this Champions and promising an interesting series. Sayonara pointed at team play over individual stats. All three quotes are from VLR's recap.
Updated Bracket: Who Plays Whom
Times are from the VLR.gg playoff bracket as listed in Central Time (CDT). Day 1's provisional table had some of these slots flipped before Thursday locked the winners; use this table going forward.
Upper semifinals (Saturday October 10)
- NRG vs LOUD, 4:00 AM CT. The Day 1 winners. Americas vs Brazil for a spot in the Upper Final. Full Day 1 context is in our Day 1 recap.
- G2 vs Vitality, 7:00 AM CT. Americas vs EMEA. G2 arrive off a clean sweep. Vitality arrive off a three-map war. Winner is in the Upper Final; loser drops into the lower bracket still alive.
Lower Round 1 (Friday October 9)
- T1 vs Paper Rex, 4:00 AM CT. All-Pacific elimination. The loser finishes 7th-8th.
- 100 Thieves vs Nongshim, 7:00 AM CT. Hotspawn notes this is an EWC rematch that 100T won before. The loser is also out at 7th-8th. Rb already called it interesting. After Thursday, it is also the last chance for either side to start a lower-bracket run before finals weekend.
How to Watch
Champions Shanghai playoffs continue from Jing'an Sports Center. Official VCT streams run on Riot's VALORANT Champions Tour channels; VLR.gg embeds and regional co-streams are linked from each match page. Pick'Ems locked on October 7 when the playoff bracket opened, so Thursday's results are already scored against locked brackets. The Champions 2026 bundle remains in the shop for players who want the viewer cosmetic package, as noted across community schedule trackers; treat shop pricing as client-side if you are buying.
For Central Time alarms: Friday's first lower-bracket series is 4:00 AM CT, Friday's second is 7:00 AM CT, Saturday's upper semis follow the same 4:00 / 7:00 AM CT pattern. Shanghai local is 13 hours ahead of CDT.
What Thursday Means Going Into Friday
G2 look like the most dangerous Americas team that is not NRG. Sweeping 100 Thieves, on 100T's Ascent, after months of international underperformance talk, is the kind of result that changes how the rest of the bracket draws strats. JoshRT's point about knowing Americas opponents cold matters twice on Saturday if G2 beat Vitality and then face an NRG or LOUD upper final.
Vitality are alive the hard way. A 13-4 loss on their own Abyss pick would bury most teams. Winning five of six pistols and trusting Derke and Sayonara in overtime is how EMEA stays in the upper half. The Saturday series against G2 will show whether Thursday was a survival story or a real upper-bracket team finding its timing.
100 Thieves and Nongshim both have lower-bracket pedigree questions to answer on Friday. 100T's six-game streak is over, but a lower run is still a path to the Grand Final in this format. Nongshim out-fragged Vitality on the round clock and still lost; Ivy's 55-kill night proves the aim is there if the pistols and closes clean up.
