League of Legends Patch 26.20 is the one that counts. Riot published the notes on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, and the patch is scheduled to hit live servers on Wednesday, October 7. More importantly, Riot says it plainly at the top of the notes: "For Summoner's Rift, this is the patch we'll be seeing our year-defining competitive play on." Every draft at Worlds 2026, from the first Play-In game in Los Angeles on October 15 to the final in Brooklyn on November 14, happens on this build.
That makes 26.20 a weird patch to read. It is not a big swing like 26.19 was. It is a precision pass: small cuts to the pro staples that have been showing up in every serious draft (Ambessa, K'Sante, Ashe, Cassiopeia, Yunara), small buffs to fringe picks Riot thinks could become real options (Kennen, Kindred, Diana, Swain, Mordekaiser), another nerf to Hextech Rocketbelt with immediate compensation for the champions who need it, and some item cleanup. On top of that you get five more champions in League Classic, a stack of ARAM: Mayhem changes, private replays, a scoreboard cleanup and the HEARTSTEEL Live My Life skin line.
Everything in this guide comes from Riot's official Patch 26.20 notes and, for the tournament dates, the LoL Esports Worlds 2026 primer. If you are catching up, our Patch 26.19 guide covers the first pre-Worlds pass, and the Patch 26.18 guide explains the meta 26.19 and 26.20 are reacting to.
When Does LoL Patch 26.20 Go Live?
Riot's notes went up on October 6 at 18:00 UTC (1:00 p.m. CT). The patch itself follows Riot's usual Wednesday rollout and is scheduled for October 7, 2026, which is also the date Riot gives for the new skins. Servers update region by region, so the exact minute you can play on 26.20 depends on where you are, but plan around Wednesday.
Here is why the date matters so much this year:
- October 7: Patch 26.20 live on ranked servers.
- October 10: Play-In Stage draw after the CBLOL Finals.
- October 15 to 18: Play-In Stage in Los Angeles, best-of-five, double elimination.
- October 23 to 31: Swiss Stage in Allen, Texas.
- November 3 to 14: Knockout Stage in Allen, then the Final in Brooklyn on November 14.
What Is NOT in Patch 26.20: Team Voice
A lot of players have been waiting for Team Voice in North America and Oceania, because Riot originally announced it for 26.20. It is not here. In the 26.19 notes Riot said that "after extensive testing, we've made the call to postpone this a bit," and added: "We don't have a target patch just yet." The 26.20 notes do not mention it at all. If you read our earlier Team Voice Patch 26.20 guide, that explainer of how the feature works still stands, but the release timing has moved and there is no new date yet.

Pro Staple Nerfs: Ambessa, K'Sante, Ashe, Cassiopeia and Yunara
These are the champions Riot thinks would otherwise define Worlds drafts a little too much. None of the nerfs is huge. That is deliberate. Riot is trying to move them from "first pick or ban every game" to "strong pick you still have to earn."
Ambessa
Riot's reasoning: Ambessa "has been too reliable in her late game output for players with high mastery in all brackets, but especially pro-play." The fix is on her passive, Drakehound's Step, which drops from 5 to 30 (+25% bonus AD) to 5 to 25 (+20% bonus AD). The level 1 value is untouched, so her lane does not change much. What changes is the late game, where both the flat cap and the bonus AD ratio shrink. A full-build Ambessa still dashes and chains abilities the same way, she just hits a little less on every passive proc in a long teamfight.
K'Sante
The notes describe this as "warding off this warden from being as reliable as a blind pick in coordinated play." Two cuts, both on W (Path Maker):
- Mana cost: 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60 to 45 / 50 / 55 / 60 / 65
- Damage reduction (base / All-Out): 30% / 75% to 25% / 70%
Ashe
Riot calls Ashe "one of the premier marksmen in pro play at the moment," and the complaint is that she brings too much raw damage on top of being "the highest utility marksman in the game." Her attack damage per level drops from 3.5 to 3. That is half a point of AD per level, so by level 18 she has 8.5 less base AD than before. Her utility (Volley slows, the arrow, the scouting hawk) is untouched. Expect Ashe to stay a common pick for her engage and pick tools, just with less right-click threat late.
Cassiopeia
Riot already nerfed Cassiopeia "two patches ago" and says those changes were "pretty good directionally," but she is still "dominant" in early laning. So she loses early resources: base health 630 to 610 and base mana 480 to 450. Twenty health and thirty mana do not sound like much, but early lane is exactly where Cassiopeia was building her lead, and less mana means fewer poison spams before she has to back off or buy.
Yunara
This one has the best line in the notes. Riot says Yunara "is the leading candidate for 'handshake hyperscaler do nothing' and we want to avoid that becoming the dominant meta, especially heading into worlds." In plain terms: Riot does not want Worlds to be 20-minute farm fests where both teams wait for their hyper-carry to come online.
- Q (Cultivation of Spirit) on-hit damage, passive and active: 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 (+20% AP) to 3 / 8 / 13 / 18 / 23 (+20% AP)
- W (Arc of Judgement): the slow no longer stacks with other slows
Buffs to Fringe Picks: Kennen, Kindred, Diana, Swain and Friends
The other half of the patch is Riot trying to widen the pool of viable picks, so Worlds drafts have more than the usual handful of answers.
Kennen and Neeko (Rocketbelt compensation)
Both Kennen and Neeko are named in the notes as Rocketbelt users who will feel the item nerf, so they get buffs on the same patch.
- Kennen E (Lightning Rush) bonus attack speed: 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80% to 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90%. Riot jokes that it is "stacking the odds a bit more in his favor with his signature spell (in Riftbound)." More attack speed after E means faster passive stuns on auto-attacks, which is a real lane and teamfight buff.
- Neeko E (Tangle-Barbs) base damage: 70 / 105 / 140 / 175 / 210 to 80 / 115 / 150 / 185 / 220 (AP ratio unchanged at 65%).
- Neeko empowered root duration: 1.8 / 2.1 / 2.4 / 2.7 / 3 seconds to 2 / 2.25 / 2.5 / 2.75 / 3 seconds. Max rank is unchanged, the early ranks are longer.
Kindred
Riot says Kindred is "currently a bit weak," and the buffs are aimed at "areas that won't make them much more overwhelming in early invades."
- W (Wolf's Frenzy) monster modifier: 150% to 165%, so clears go faster.
- E (Mounting Dread) slow duration: 1 second to 1.5 seconds, which makes ganks and skirmish chases more reliable.
- E small monster targeting: removed. Kindred can no longer cast E on small camp monsters, which keeps the clear buff from also turning into an invade monster.
Diana, Swain, Mordekaiser and Lillia
- Diana: bruiser builds have been "lagging a good bit behind" assassin builds, so W (Pale Cascade) shield bonus health ratio goes from 11% to 14%. Tankier Diana builds get a meatier shield.
- Swain: a mid buff with a role normalization. Base magic resist 31 to 34, base armor 25 to 23, W damage 70 / 105 / 140 / 175 / 210 to 70 / 115 / 160 / 205 / 250, and W cooldown 22 / 21 / 20 / 19 / 18 to 20 / 19 / 18 / 17 / 16 seconds. The armor to MR swap favors mid (where he faces mages) over bot (where he faces marksmen).
- Mordekaiser: Riot says the gaps between ultimates make it hard to keep up with faster opponents, and Obliterate "can do more damage later on." Q scaling for levels 10 to 20 goes from +5 per level to +7 per level, and R (Realm of Death) cooldown goes from 140 / 120 / 100 to 120 / 110 / 100 seconds.
- Lillia: Riot buffed her sleep in 26.19 but "didn't quite see the movement we were looking for," so R (Lilting Lullaby) duration goes from 2.5 seconds to 2.5 / 2.75 / 3 seconds by rank.
Marksmen and supports: Lucian, Vayne, Smolder, Tahm Kench
- Lucian: the 26.19 change meant to normalize mid and bot "ended up landing as a nerf for bot lane," so Riot gives that power back with AD growth from 2.5 to 2.9 per level (base AD stays at 60). By level 18 that is 6.8 more AD than on 26.19.
- Vayne: health regen per 5 goes from 4 + 0.5 per level to 5.5 + 0.4 per level, and Q (Tumble) mana cost becomes a flat 30 instead of 46 / 42 / 38 / 34 / 30. Do the math on the regen and you see the intent: she gets 1.5 more regen at level 1, but by level 18 the two formulas are nearly identical (12.5 versus 12.3). It is a pure early-lane survival buff for bot. Riot called the old Q mana cost something that "simply felt way too bad," and the flat 30 is a big help for early trades.
- Smolder: Riot is "further encouraging crit builds." Super Scorcher bonus magic damage goes from 25 to 55% (+0 to 9% with IE) to 25 to 60% (+0 to 10.5% with IE) of Dragon Practice stacks, Flap Flap Flap goes from 8 to 12.8% (+0 to 1.44% with IE) to 8 to 14% (+0 to 1.8% with IE), and R self heal goes from 100 / 135 / 170 (+50% bonus AD) (+75% AP) to 100 / 175 / 250 (+75% bonus AD) (+75% AP).
- Tahm Kench: as a tank support with low base regen and lots of health scaling, he "lost out on the recent adjustments to the support item." Q (Tongue Lash) base healing goes from 10 / 13.75 / 17.5 / 21.25 / 25 to 10 / 20 / 30 / 40 / 50. Max rank healing doubles.
Item Changes: Rocketbelt, Hexplate and Runaan's Hurricane
| Item | Change | Before | After | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hextech Rocketbelt | Ability haste / active damage | 20 / 100 (+10% AP) | 10 / 135 (+15% AP) | Adjust |
| Experimental Hexplate | Ranged modifier | 70% (35% AS, 14% MS) | 50% (25% AS, 10% MS) | Nerf |
| Runaan's Hurricane | AD per bolt | 65% | 60% | Nerf |
Hextech Rocketbelt
This is the headline system change. Riot says Rocketbelt "continues to be used a bit too much as an escape compared to a risky engage tool," or, as the intro puts it, it is too good at "just being a purchasable Flash for immobile characters." The fix moves value from the passive stats to the active:
- Ability haste: 20 to 10
- Active damage: 100 (+10% AP) to 135 (+15% AP)
Experimental Hexplate
Riot has been "fairly unhappy with how this item has played out for ranged users, especially as a first rush in top lane." The ranged modifier drops from 70% of value (35% attack speed, 14% move speed) to 50% of value (25% attack speed, 10% move speed). Melee users are unaffected. If you were rushing Hexplate on a ranged top laner, that build just got noticeably worse.
Runaan's Hurricane
Short and honest: "This item was slightly overbuffed." Attack damage per bolt goes from 65% to 60%. On-hit marksmen will feel it in sustained fights, but it is a trim, not a rework.
Private Replays and the Scoreboard Cleanup
Two non-balance changes in 26.20 affect almost everyone.
Private replays. Starting this patch, "you will only be able to access replays from matches you played in." Other players can no longer download your replays, and "third-party apps & sites will lose access to replay downloads entirely." Riot ties this to a wider crackdown on game memory access, saying it is closing "security vulnerabilities that have recently been exploited by cheat developers and other bad actors." You can still download and watch your own replays in the client for VOD review. If you used a third-party site to pull replays of high-elo players to study, that route is gone.
Scoreboard cleanup. Riot's buff-bar clarity work moved a lot of numbers onto item icons, and those numbers "began terrorizing your scoreboards (thanks, Death's Dance)." Most item counters are now hidden on the scoreboard, including Death's Dance, Liandry's Torment, Riftmaker, Kraken Slayer, Guinsoo's Rageblade, Spear of Shojin, Hullbreaker and others. Strategically useful counters such as Tear of the Goddess items and Mejai's Soulstealer stay visible.
League Classic: Aatrox, Caitlyn, Irelia, Karma and Quinn Return
If you play Classic, 26.20 adds what Riot calls "an eclectic crew who have no business forming a band together": Aatrox, Caitlyn, Irelia, Karma and Quinn and Valor, all in their original or early versions.
- Aatrox is his launch-era Blood Well version (Riot says he was "just a baby, 3 patches old" when it snapshotted him), which revives on death and keeps the Dark Flight knock-up and Massacre ultimate.
- Caitlyn is her 2011 to 2015 kit, with a brush-charged Headshot and the old knock-back net.
- Irelia is the 2010 to 2018 version, with Bladesurge resets, Hiten Style true damage and the stun-if-healthier Equilibrium Strike.
- Karma is the pre-2013 battlemage whose passive grows her AP as she loses health, with Mantra available at level 1 and holding two charges.
- Quinn and Valor are the 2013 to 2015 version, where the ultimate swaps Quinn out for Valor as a fast melee skirmisher.
ARAM, ARAM: Mayhem and Ranked 5s
ARAM: Mayhem gets champion-specific buffs for Bard, Garen, K'Sante, Lee Sin, Swain and Thresh, plus a round of Augment usability changes. Riot's two examples: Missile Split now splits "when the missile reaches its end or is recast, rather than on the first target hit," and Triggered Inferno drops from a 15 second to a 5 second cooldown "to show the real Samira fantasy." The Mayhem K'Sante buffs are worth noting because they run the opposite direction of his Rift nerf: W cooldown becomes a flat 10 seconds and W damage reduction rises from 30% to 45% in that mode. Juiced, Leg Day, Shark Tempest, Squishy Slappy Grab and Tooth Fairy are also adjusted.
Standard ARAM tweaks two champions: Bel'Veth goes from 105% damage dealt and 95% damage taken with 20% tenacity to a neutral 100% / 100% with no tenacity bonus, and Locke goes from 105% to 115% damage dealt.
Ranked 5s: Riot reminds players that queue windows were extended from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. server time to 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. server time.
HEARTSTEEL Live My Life and Other Skins
The cosmetic headline is the HEARTSTEEL Live My Life line. Riot lists these as available October 7, 2026:
- Prestige HEARTSTEEL Live My Life Sett
- HEARTSTEEL Live My Life Ezreal, Kayn, Aphelios, Yone and K'Sante
- Prestige Classic Baron Kog'Maw
What Patch 26.20 Means for Worlds 2026
Read the patch as Riot's guess at what pro teams would have abused, and what they would have ignored.
- Fewer automatic picks. Ambessa, K'Sante, Ashe, Cassiopeia and Yunara are all still strong after these nerfs. What changes is how comfortable a team feels blind picking them into an unknown opponent. Expect more counter-pick slots and more priority on flex picks.
- Less "do nothing" scaling. The Yunara nerf, the Runaan's trim and the end of slow stacking all push against compositions that just wait. Combine that with the Mordekaiser and Swain buffs and Riot is clearly hoping for more mid-game fighting.
- A Rocketbelt meta that rewards commitment. With the active hitting harder, Rocketbelt is now an all-in item. Kennen and Neeko were compensated directly, so they are worth watching as teamfight engage picks.
- Wildcard picks. Kindred and Diana are the two buffs most likely to show up as surprise picks. The Kindred buff is designed to avoid early invade abuse, which is exactly what makes it safe to bring to an international event.
What Patch 26.20 Means for Solo Queue
For ranked, the patch is mostly about feel rather than a new tier list.
- Top: ranged tops that rushed Hexplate lose a lot. K'Sante players will notice the mana before they notice the damage reduction. Kennen and Mordekaiser are better blind options than they were last week.
- Jungle: Kindred clears faster and slows longer. Lillia gets a longer sleep at higher ranks of her ultimate. Diana bruiser builds are more viable.
- Mid: Cassiopeia's early lane is a little weaker. Swain is a real mid option again with more W damage and a shorter cooldown. Neeko is a good Rocketbelt user to try.
- Bot: Lucian gets back the bot lane power 26.19 took away. Vayne's early laning is much less painful with flat 30 mana Tumble. Ashe and Yunara are slightly weaker. Smolder crit builds are better.
- Support: Tahm Kench's Q healing doubles at max rank, so he gets some of his sustain back after the support item change.
Frequently Asked Questions
When does LoL Patch 26.20 come out?
Riot published the official notes on October 6, 2026 at 18:00 UTC, and the patch is scheduled for Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Live servers update on Riot's usual regional rollout, so the exact time you can play depends on your region.
Is Worlds 2026 played on Patch 26.20?
Yes. Riot's notes say that for Summoner's Rift, "this is the patch we'll be seeing our year-defining competitive play on." The Play-In Stage starts October 15 in Los Angeles, the Swiss Stage runs October 23 to 31 in Allen, Texas, and the Knockout Stage runs November 3 to 14, ending with the Final in Brooklyn on November 14.
What are the biggest nerfs in LoL Patch 26.20?
The pro-focused nerfs are Ambessa (smaller late-game passive damage), K'Sante (more W mana cost and less W damage reduction), Ashe (AD per level 3.5 to 3), Cassiopeia (less base health and mana) and Yunara (less Q on-hit damage, and her W slow no longer stacks). On the item side, Rocketbelt loses 10 ability haste, Experimental Hexplate is weaker on ranged champions and Runaan's Hurricane bolts deal 60% AD instead of 65%.
What are the biggest buffs in LoL Patch 26.20?
Kennen and Neeko get buffs to offset the Rocketbelt change, Kindred gets faster clears and a longer E slow, Diana's W shield is stronger for bruiser builds, Swain gets more W damage and a shorter W cooldown, Mordekaiser's ultimate cooldown drops at early ranks, Lillia's sleep lasts longer at higher ranks, and Lucian, Vayne, Smolder and Tahm Kench get role-specific buffs.
What changed with Hextech Rocketbelt in 26.20?
Rocketbelt's ability haste drops from 20 to 10, while its active damage rises from 100 (+10% AP) to 135 (+15% AP). Riot wants it to be a risky engage tool for AP bruisers rather than an escape button for immobile champions.
Is Team Voice in Patch 26.20?
No. Riot originally announced Team Voice for North America and Oceania in Patch 26.20, but the 26.19 notes said it had been postponed after testing, with no target patch yet. The 26.20 notes do not mention it.
Can other players still download my replays?
Not anymore. Starting with Patch 26.20, you can only access replays from matches you played in, and third-party apps and sites lose access to replay downloads. You can still download and watch your own replays in the League client.
Which champions join League Classic in Patch 26.20?
Aatrox, Caitlyn, Irelia, Karma, and Quinn and Valor join Classic in their older versions. Classic also gets balance changes for Fiora, Graves, Fizz, Kennen and Nautilus, plus health regen buffs to Spirit Visage, Force of Nature and Warmog's Armor.
When are the HEARTSTEEL Live My Life skins available?
Riot lists Prestige HEARTSTEEL Live My Life Sett, HEARTSTEEL Live My Life Ezreal, Kayn, Aphelios, Yone and K'Sante, and Prestige Classic Baron Kog'Maw as available on October 7, 2026, the same day as the patch.
Final Take
Patch 26.20 does what a Worlds patch should do: it sands down the picks that would have been in every game, gives a handful of fringe champions a real shot, and pushes Rocketbelt toward engage instead of escape. It is not flashy, and that is the point. The meta you see on October 15 will mostly be the meta solo queue already knows, with fewer automatic Ambessa, K'Sante and Yunara picks and more room for a Kindred, Kennen or Swain to steal a game. Patch in on Wednesday, try the Rocketbelt changes yourself, and you will be ready to second-guess every draft at Worlds.
