Frozen Trail is live. Embark Studios flipped the switch on Thursday, October 8, 2026, and Arc Raiders just got the biggest content drop it has seen since launch. Pendola Pass is open beyond the Rust Belt. The Frigate is in the sky. New enemies are hunting you. A fifth weapon tier exists if you build the Outpost Research Bench. Raider Decks are gone, replaced by Reward Passes. And for four days the whole game is free to try.
This is the launch-day guide. Everything below is pulled from Embark's own posts: Frozen Trail is live, the full Frozen Trail 2.0 patch notes, the play-for-free weekend page, the Reward Pass explainer, and the Collector Set DLC page. If a detail is not in those posts, it is labeled. For the pre-launch checklist we published earlier, keep the Frozen Trail prep guide handy as companion reading. Day-one patch notes override any preview wording that conflicted.
What Shipped on October 8
Embark's patch-notes highlight list is long on purpose. This is not a POI sprinkle or a balance pass dressed up as an update. It is a systems drop wrapped around a new map.
The live post frames the story cleanly: Shani has cleared the Ballistic Gondolas, you are among the first Raiders past the mountain ridge, one Emperor is down, and ARC is responding. Rare tech sits in the collapsed husk and inside the Frigate now patrolling the Rust Belt. That is the fiction. The systems list above is what you actually log in to play.
Pendola Pass: Beyond the Rust Belt
Pendola Pass is the headline destination. Embark describes it as the first region beyond the Rust Belt, and the live post puts you in a pioneering group climbing the mountain on Ballistic Gondolas. Hard facts about what lies past the ridge are scarce in-fiction. What is not scarce in the patch notes is the loot experiment Embark is running exclusively here.
Dynamic Loot Zones
Pendola Pass is the test bed for a Dynamic Loot Zone system. Zones keep their inherent loot type. A Residential area stays Residential. What changes raid to raid is value: one Residential pocket can run hot this raid and cold the next. Embark's stated goal is to break predictable routes and make scavenging less scripted. If your old muscle memory was "always hit X then Y," Pendola is designed to punish that habit.
Treat route planning as a shortlist of two or three zone types, not a fixed door-to-door path. Scout value indicators early. Leave yourself an exit when a Dynamic Loot Zone turns out cold and half the lobby is still converging on your backup.
Frigate and Redirection
The highlights list two new map conditions: Frigate and Redirection. The live post ties the Frigate to ARC's response after the Emperor goes down: a patrol craft you can enter for prizes Speranza has never seen. Redirection is the second condition called out in the same highlight block. Exact in-raid timers and trigger rules are in-client; Embark's public notes name both conditions without a full procedural flowchart, so treat the labels as confirmed and the minute-by-minute behavior as something you learn Topside.
The practical read for day one is simple. When Frigate is up, expect contested vertical fights and squad killers in tight corridors. When Redirection is up, expect attention to shift toward redirected payloads and the players who call them. Do not treat either as free loot.
New Enemies: Bully, Skulker, Hydra
Embark's live post and patch highlights name three new threats:
- Bully: oppresses your position and unloads unrelenting pressure. This is the close-range bully of the trio. Give it space, break line of sight, and punish the commit instead of hipfiring in panic.
- Skulker: stalks from the shadows and pops up where you least expect. Audio discipline and peripheral checks matter more than raw DPS. If you tunnel on a loot crate, this is the unit that kills you.
- Hydra: a multi-tasking squad killer that protects the Emperor and Frigate. Embark frames it as a threat that can pressure a whole squad at once. Split focus, find cover, and burst when a window opens.
Weapons: Bantam, Stiletto, and the Anvil Rarity Shift
Two new weapons ship with Frozen Trail: Bantam and Stiletto. The patch notes give the Bantam a clear role: it takes over as the uncommon hand cannon after Embark moved Anvil from Green to Blue rarity. Anvil was outperforming weapons at and above its old rarity while remaining a fan staple. Raising its rarity puts it in a better economy slot without stripping the gun players already love. Bantam fills the uncommon hand-cannon job with balance tuned for that band.
The Anvil Splitter is no longer a usable mod. It is now an improved upgrade option for the Amplified Anvil, and the Tech Mod slot was removed from Anvil to match. Existing Anvil Splitters should no longer drop; they remain sellable or recyclable into Amplified Fragments used to repair Amplified Weapons.
Stiletto is listed alongside Bantam in the highlights as a new weapon. Exact mag sizes and damage numbers live in-client. Day-one advice: unlock both in a low-stakes free-play or practice extract before you bank a full kit on them in a contested Pendola lobby.
Amplified Weapons, Outpost, and the Research Bench
Outpost is the systems hub of Frozen Trail. Unlock it by completing a project. Embark's known-issues section is unusually clear here: accept the quest, bring a camera, and photograph a farmland house for the "Research Topside Living Conditions" step. Cameras are available from Shani, craftable at the Workbench, or found Topside. Skip the camera and you stall the unlock.
Once unlocked, the Outpost expands with modules and opens the Research Bench. That bench is how you reach the fifth weapon tier. Amplified Weapons are the late-game identity rewrite: branching enhancements that change how a gun plays once you have invested the research. Repairing Amplified gear consumes Amplified Fragments, including fragments from recycled Anvil Splitters.
Furniture Designs work like blueprints. Learn them, then craft furniture for your Outpost. Embark's counts:
Weapon Stencils are a parallel cosmetic track. Learn a stencil, apply it with Stencil Parts found Topside, and remember the risk: a stenciled weapon can still be looted off your body if you go down. Fourteen stencils ship in this update across Premium Pass, DLC, and Topside finds.
Skill Tree Revamp
Embark is blunt about why the tree changed. Players and data both said the old tree did not offer enough interesting ways to define a playstyle. The revamp adds new skills, reshuffles the layout, and replaces the old large mid-branch and end-branch nodes.
- Middle of each branch: one path, binary choice between two skills. Pick one. You can choose again when you reset.
- End of each branch: two nodes where you choose up to two of three skills after the required point investment.
New Gadgets and Toys
The highlights list is the checklist for your Utility bar:
- Grappling Hook: personal mobility for Pendola's vertical approaches. Embark also nerfed Snap Hook (range 20m to 18m, durability cost 2% to 4% per use, power cost 50 to 60) so the two gadgets have distinct jobs instead of a linear upgrade path. Snap Hook is burst mobility with more commitment. Grappling Hook is the new personal traversal tool.
- Basic and Advanced Cameras: required for Outpost unlock photography and for older quests that were updated to use the new camera system (The League, Reduced to Rubble, Life of a Pharmacist, Battening Down, Groundbreaking).
- Tether Launcher: new control tool. Repair is currently unavailable as a known issue; a fix is promised.
- Yank Grenade: displacement tool for fights and extracts.
- Mountaineer's Detector: Pendola-flavored detection utility.
- Banjo and Harmonica: social/musical items. The Banjo blueprint is DLC-exclusive per the Reward Pass and Collector Set posts.
Quests: 22 New, Plus Real XP
Quest completion and objectives now grant XP, shown in descriptions and on claim. Twenty-two new quests ship with Frozen Trail. Sorting on the quest list was improved so progression is easier to follow. One day-one caveat from known issues: Picking up the Pieces cannot be completed on Pendola Pass, though it works on other maps. If that quest is in your log, finish it elsewhere until the fix lands. The cinematic for Sizing Things Up also fails to trigger on completion; Embark flags that too.
Reward Pass: Raider Decks Are Legacy Now
Cred is gone. Reward Points replace it and apply automatically to whichever Reward Pass you have set active. Only one pass can be active at a time.
The Free track is where the gameplay items live. Embark is explicit: Premium does not include weapons or gadgets the way Free does. Premium is cosmetics, stencils, hairstyles, and Tokens, priced at 1,150 Tokens with a full earn-back if you finish the track. That design matters if you are deciding whether to buy Premium on day one or grind Free first.
Feats feed the pass:
After you clear the three weekly milestones, more Feats still complete, but major milestone rewards wait for the weekly reset. End-of-round screens now preview milestone progress, and in-round logs show milestone updates.
Collector Set DLC
The Collector Set is the paid bundle for players who want the full cosmetic package on day one. Official contents:
- Renzo cosmetic set
- Dragon's Breath Weapon Stencil
- Bob Hair Style
- 2,400 Raider Tokens
- Exclusive Retro Sofa for the Outpost
- Banjo blueprint (DLC-exclusive)
- Frozen Trail Premium Reward Pass access
Free-to-Play Window and the 50% Sale
From October 8 at 09:00 UTC to October 12 at 08:00 UTC, Arc Raiders is free on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation. PS5 in Germany has a €0.25 fee. Free play grants the full game. New players can access Pendola Pass immediately if they squad with someone who has already unlocked the map. Progress carries in the usual free-weekend sense: Embark's free-play FAQ page is the place to confirm account-side details if your platform store page differs.
The live post also states the game is 50% off on all platforms during this window. That is the buy-in pitch after you try the free days: extract a few times, decide if Pendola is for you, then grab the discount before the free window closes.
Central Time conversion for planning sessions: 09:00 UTC Oct 8 is 4:00 AM CT Thursday, and 08:00 UTC Oct 12 is 3:00 AM CT Sunday. If you are inviting friends, those are the hard edges.
Stash, Twitch Drops, and Quality-of-Life
Max stash size is up by two upgrade levels. The new ceiling without Expedition bonuses or Nomadic Envoy space is 328 slots. That matters immediately because Frozen Trail dumps Designs, Stencils, Pass rewards, and new mats into your inventory.
Twitch Drops run October 8 to November 4, 2026. Watch 60 minutes for the Oxygen Respirator backpack attachment, 120 minutes for the Mailbox. Link your accounts before you start the timer.
Other day-one QoL worth knowing from the patch notes:
- Solo vs. Squads matchmaking option is removed while Embark re-evaluates it.
- You can drop loot to the ground directly from containers.
- You can open the map while downed.
- Scrambling: sprinting at steep slopes lets you scramble up briefly.
- Heavy Shield durability decay reduced (0.20 to 0.15) and movement penalty cut (15% to 10%).
- Explosive damage formula reworked: Hullcracker and similar deal over 50% more to armor plates and about 30% less to fragile parts.
- Riven Tides overall loot value up about 15%.
- AMD FSR upgraded to 4.1.1.
Known Issues to Play Around
Embark published a long known-issues list with Frozen Trail. The ones most likely to waste a raid:
Duplication enforcement is also live: Embark is restricting accounts that store high amounts of duplicated items and removing exploit-sourced items to clean the economy. Do not treat duplicated stock as safe.
Day-One Priority Checklist
If you are logging in tonight, this is the order that wastes the least time:
- Update the client and confirm you are on the Frozen Trail build.
- Buy or craft a Camera before you start the Outpost project.
- Accept the Outpost unlock quest and finish the farmland photo step.
- Open the Skill Tree, note the new binary and choose-2-of-3 nodes, and plan a reset after a few Pendola runs.
- Set your active Reward Pass (Frozen Trail Free unless you bought Premium/DLC).
- Clear stash space toward the new 328 ceiling; bank Designs and Stencil Parts instead of vendoring them by accident.
- Take Bantam and Stiletto into a low-stakes raid before a contested Frigate attempt.
- If you stream or watch, start the Twitch Drop timers for the backpack attachments.
- Invite free-weekend friends into a squad that already has Pendola unlocked so they land on the new map immediately.
- Read the prep guide once more for loadout habits, then let these patch notes override anything the preview got wrong.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Arc Raiders Frozen Trail live right now?
Yes. Embark's Frozen Trail is live post is dated October 8, 2026, and tells Raiders to update and take their first steps on Pendola Pass. The full 2.0 patch notes list everything that shipped with it.
What is Pendola Pass?
Pendola Pass is the new map beyond the Rust Belt. You reach it on Ballistic Gondolas after Shani clears the climb. It is also the only map currently testing Embark's Dynamic Loot Zone system, where zone loot types stay the same but value swings raid to raid.
How do I unlock the Outpost and Research Bench?
Complete the Outpost project. The first step, Research Topside Living Conditions, requires a photo of a farmland house. Bring a Camera from Shani, the Workbench, or Topside loot. Unlocking the Outpost unlocks the Research Bench used for Amplified Weapons.
What are Amplified Weapons?
They are the fifth weapon tier unlocked through Outpost research. Embark frames them as branching enhancements that can rewrite a gun's identity. Repairing them uses Amplified Fragments. The Anvil Splitter now feeds that loop as an Amplified Anvil upgrade path instead of a normal mod.
How does the Frozen Trail Reward Pass work?
Reward Passes replace Raider Decks. Cred is removed. Reward Points from Feats apply to your active pass. Frozen Trail has 60 Free and Premium levels. Premium costs 1,150 Raider Tokens and can earn back up to 1,150 Tokens. Old Raider Decks live in the Legacy Pass, and unlocked rewards stay unlocked.

What happened to Solo vs. Squads?
Embark removed Solo vs. Squads from matchmaking options. The patch notes say it lacked a proper incentive compared with other queues, and the studio is re-evaluating its role.
Should I still read the prep guide?
Yes, as companion reading. Our Frozen Trail Oct 8 prep guide covers pre-launch habits. This launch-day article is the one that tracks live patch notes, known issues, pass prices, free-play timers, and everything that only locked when the servers updated.
Final Take
Frozen Trail is the moment Arc Raiders stops feeling like a launch title with seasonal sprinkles and starts feeling like a game with a second act. Pendola Pass is the destination. Outpost and Amplification are the long-term hooks. The Reward Pass rebuild is the progression fix. The free weekend is the invite button.
Update, grab a Camera, unlock the Outpost, and take the gondola up the mountain. The trail is open.
