WoW: Forever goes live today, Wednesday, November 4 at 5:00 PM CST. Every large WoW launch has a messy first night, and Forever has already shown some of its problems during the Early Name Reservation week from October 27 to November 3. This guide collects every error and launch-night state players have hit so far, what each one means, and what has actually fixed it.
We stick to what Blizzard has said in public. When something comes only from player reports on the official forums, we label it that way. We will add launch-night errors here once the game is live and Blizzard or its support team posts about them.
If you need the launch time in other regions, the full table is in our launch day guide. For the final class and system changes in the launch build, see our launch patch notes explained.
Launch Day Timeline in CST
The maintenance window first appeared as a Battle.net app notice that players quoted on the forums on October 31. Blizzard Support's Weekly Maintenance Schedule, which @BlizzardCS links daily on X, now lists the same window: "Game unavailable" from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM PST in the Americas table and 19:00 to midnight CET in the Europe table. Wowhead describes it as about five hours and warns it could be extended.
The notice says the service returns at "approximately" 3:00 PM PST. That means it can run late or come up early. If it runs late, waiting is the fix.
Quick Error Code Table
WOW51900337: "Access to This Realm Requires an Account With a Valid Access License"
This was one of the most common errors of reservation week, and you will probably see it today before launch.
Before 5:00 PM CST, it is expected. At 8:00 AM CST this morning, Blizzard's support account posted on X: "Seeing error WOW51900337 when trying to log into #WoWForever? This is expected, as the game is not live yet." The EU account posted the same message. During reservation week only pack owners could log in, and now nobody can until launch.
After 5:00 PM CST, it means the account you selected cannot play. From launch, WoW: Forever is included with any active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time, according to Blizzard's New Player's Starter Guide. Friends with a redeemed Invite-A-Friend launch code can also play from November 4 to 11. If you still see the error after launch, check these in order:
- The WoW account dropdown. One Battle.net login can hold several WoW game accounts (WoW1, WoW2, an old trial). In the Battle.net app, pick WoW: Forever under Game Version, then pick the account that actually pays for WoW. Players on the forums found packs attached to old trial accounts.
- Your subscription status. Make sure the subscription or Game Time is active on that exact game account, not just on your Battle.net login.
- A missing dropdown. Players reported the account menu sometimes disappears. Fully quitting Battle.net from the system tray and reopening it brought it back for them.
- Region. Purchases are per region. Something bought on an EU account does not count on an Americas account. Blizzard staff on the EU forums said licenses cannot be moved between accounts, so a wrong-account purchase needs a refund.
WOW51900309: "No Realms Are Currently Available"
You pick a ruleset and get this error straight away. It means the ruleset is not letting your account in.
It has come in waves. Around October 30, Blizzard Customer Support said on the forums that the Roleplay ruleset had been offline and was back. On October 31, Blizzard CS said on X that some players were not able to reach Roleplay and were being "shunted to RPPVP," and that it hoped the cause would be tracked down soon.
Since about October 31, the error has mostly hit the Normal ruleset. On November 3, players in the Forever General Discussion forum reported that they could reach every ruleset except Normal, even after reinstalling and deleting folders, and one EU player replied that only Normal was down in Europe too. Another Technical Support thread from the same day describes the same pattern. As of this morning we have not found a Blizzard post that says the Normal problem is fixed.
What to do tonight:
- Test another ruleset. If PvP or Roleplay connects and Normal does not, your PC is probably fine. Reinstalling the game will not help, according to players who tried it.
- Do not delete played characters. During reservation, Blizzard CS suggested reserving on a ruleset you can reach and recreating later, since names are unique to the region. That works for an empty level 1 character. After launch, deleting a character you have played deletes its progress.
- Wait for the launch maintenance to finish. Blizzard has not said whether the five-hour maintenance addresses the Normal issue. It may, or it may not.
- Report it with the full code. Include the error code and the ruleset name in a ticket or forum post.
"This Ruleset Is Temporarily Unavailable"
All ruleset buttons are greyed out. Players hit this for three reasons during reservation week:
- Rulesets were not open yet. On October 27, EU name reservation was delayed while Blizzard fixed "final technical issues," and rulesets stayed grey until they opened.
- Client language. EU players using the Russian-language client could not reach any ruleset until Blizzard patched it around October 29. Blizzard staff suggested switching the client language in the Battle.net app as a workaround.
- Account region. A Battle.net account registered in one region can only reach that region's rulesets, no matter where you live.
Faction Locks and Throttled Creation on PvP
On the PvP ruleset, each account can only make characters for one faction, and Blizzard uses balance tools similar to Season of Discovery. Blizzard's ruleset article explains that creation for the more crowded faction can be locked for a while.
Blizzard CS has explained this several times on X. On October 30 it said that balance "is recalculated every so often throughout the day" and that players should try again later. On October 31 it said a PvP faction restriction "usually is intended." Blizzard's support article on name reservation also says Customer Support cannot bypass the restriction for you.
During reservation, Horde was the side that kept locking. Expect that to continue at launch.
The related "Creation of that type of character is currently throttled" message has no official explanation. Players saw it mostly during Horde PvP lockouts and after many quick retries. Our reading is that it is a rate limit. Players said it cleared after waiting from a few minutes up to about 45 minutes. Slow down and retry once a minute rather than hammering the button.
If you and your friends are set on Horde PvP, have a backup plan, like waiting until later in the evening or agreeing on Normal or Roleplay-PvP instead.
Login Queues: What We Know and What We Do Not
Blizzard has not published anything about queue limits, expected wait times or what happens to your place if you disconnect. Here is what is on record:
- Layering is in. Blizzard's tech podcast confirmed it, and it is how Forever handles big crowds in one ruleset. More on that below.
- Blizzard expects big numbers. The November 2 development notes talk about "large player volumes at launch" and raised respawn rates to cope.
- The beta was huge. Blizzard's beta numbers card counted 8,862,354 characters created, including 1,889,084 Skyborne. Characters are not players, and the beta was capped at level 30, so this does not predict a queue. It does show the scale.
- Reservation night was rough. On October 27, players reported queues and disconnect loops at "retrieving server info."
- Do not close the client while in queue. You will lose your place.
- Turn off sleep mode on your PC so it does not drop the connection.
- Create characters on launch night even if you do not play long. Getting past character creation is often the hardest part.
- Have a Thursday plan. For many people the first relaxed session will be the next day.
Layering Prompts and "Disappearing" Players
You may see a prompt that the world around you will refresh when you join a group. That is the launch version of layering, not a disconnect. On episode 6 of the official podcast, Blizzard said joining a group now gives you a pop-up so you choose when to move, instead of switching you instantly. The October 15 beta notes already stopped you from accepting it while in combat.
Players disappearing when you look across a zone border, such as from Orgrimmar into the Barrens, is also expected. Blizzard said on the podcast that the worst cases were fixed by the end of beta, but layers are tied to zones or groups of zones, so it can still happen.
Group splits after boats, zeppelins and city borders were named as launch fix targets in late October. If your group splits, re-invite and accept the refresh when you are out of combat.
The Known Bugs Blizzard Has Confirmed
As of this morning, Blizzard has not posted a known issues list for the live game. Its last official list was for the beta. These are the issues Blizzard has acknowledged since reservation opened:
- Oceanic Roleplay order bug (October 27). On Australian servers, create Roleplay or Roleplay-PvP characters before Normal or PvP, or the RP rulesets can vanish for later characters. Blizzard has not marked it fixed.
- Restricted name filter (October 27). Valid names, such as ones containing "c-o-n," were blocked. Kaivax said the fix would ship with the next restart in each region.
- Roleplay ruleset problems (October 30 and 31). Roleplay went offline at one point and some characters landed on Roleplay-PvP instead.
- Russian client in EU (October 29). Patched.
Where to Check Status Tonight
WoW: Forever has no traditional realm list, so the classic realm status page is less useful. Check these in order:
- The Battle.net app banner above the Play button. The launch maintenance first showed up here.
- @BlizzardCS for the Americas and @BlizzardCSEU_EN for Europe.
- Blizzard Support's Weekly Maintenance Schedule, linked from @BlizzardCS.
- The WoW: Forever General Discussion forum for blue posts.
- Reddit and Discord for early warning only. They are fast, but they are not confirmation.
Your Pre-Launch Checklist
- Finish installing WoW: Forever before 12:00 PM CST, when maintenance starts.
- Confirm which WoW account in the dropdown holds your subscription.
- Write down your reserved characters and which ruleset each is on.
- Agree on a ruleset and faction with friends, plus a backup.
- Set up addons in the Forever folder so you are not doing it in a queue.
- Expect a queue and plan a short first session.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does WoW Forever say WOW51900337?
Before launch at 5:00 PM CST on November 4, Blizzard CS says WOW51900337 is expected because the game is not live. After launch, it usually means the WoW game account you selected does not have an active subscription, Game Time or Invite-A-Friend code.
What does WOW51900309 mean in WoW Forever?
It means "No realms are currently available" for the ruleset you picked. During name reservation it mostly affected the Normal ruleset in North America and some players in Europe. If other rulesets work for the same account, the problem is most likely on Blizzard's side.
Is WoW Forever down right now?
WoW: Forever is offline for launch maintenance on November 4 from 12:00 PM to about 5:00 PM CST (10:00 AM to 3:00 PM PST). It launches at 5:00 PM CST. After that, check the Battle.net app and @BlizzardCS for outages.
Will WoW Forever have login queues?
Blizzard has not said. It expects large player numbers and raised respawn rates to cope, and reservation night had queues and disconnects. Plan for a queue on launch night.
Why can't I make a Horde character on the PvP ruleset?
The PvP ruleset locks character creation for the more populated faction for a while. Blizzard CS says this is intended and that balance is recalculated during the day, so try again later. Customer Support cannot bypass it.
Why did my group disappear in WoW Forever?
Forever uses layering. When you join a group you get a prompt to refresh your world, and you need to accept it to join your group's layer. Players across zone borders can also seem to vanish because layers follow zones.
Does WoW Forever maintenance end on time?
Blizzard lists the end as approximately 3:00 PM PST, which is 5:00 PM CST. It can end early or run late. If it runs long, Blizzard will post on @BlizzardCS and in the Battle.net app.
Can Blizzard Support fix faction balance locks?
No. Blizzard says Customer Support cannot bypass the faction balance restriction. Waiting and trying again later is the only fix.
