Blizzard published the official 12.1.5 Content Update Notes on its news site, and the Classes section is longer than most people expected after the October 6 tuning pass. Ten classes have entries. Most are bug fixes and talent shuffles, but Demon Hunter, Hunter, Warrior, Evoker and Priest all have real gameplay changes, and Devourer gets an actual system rework instead of a number nudge.
Everything below comes from Blizzard's 12.1.5 Content Update Notes and the 12.1.5 launch announcement. I cross-checked the class text against Wowhead's copy of the notes and Icy Veins' news post, and both match Blizzard word for word on the class entries. Wowhead also states the release dates: October 13 for NA and October 14 for EU. The analysis is ours. We have not run sims, so every impact line is directional.
Two housekeeping points before the details. First, the October 6 hotfix tuning is already live and is not in these notes, so Devourer's +8% and +10% single target buffs, Enhancement's +4% and the rest are covered in our October 6 class tuning breakdown, not repeated here. Second, if you want the raid, Labyrinth and Orin chain details, our 12.1.5 prep checklist and 12.1.5 hub guide handle that.
Class Changes at a Glance
Death Knight, Paladin and Warlock have no entries in the Classes section. Unholy's Blightfall change landed with the October 6 maintenance, which is why you will not see it here.
Demon Hunter: Devourer
Devourer gets the largest block of text in the notes, and nearly all of it is about one ability: Collapsing Star. Blizzard's developer note says outright that cancelled Collapsing Star casts have been a pain point since the spec launched.
What was wrong with Collapsing Star
Collapsing Star slows your Fury drain while you cast it. That created a trick: you could use the slowed drain to stretch Void Metamorphosis and time a Star at the optimal moment. To stop that, Blizzard put a 5 second cooldown on Collapsing Star if the cast was interrupted or cancelled. The note admits the downside, which is that the cooldown also punished completely normal play, like an interrupt or a deliberate cancel to dodge a mechanic.
The second problem was range. Collapsing Star has a long cast time and a medium range, so targets stepping out of range cancelled it too often.
What changes in 12.1.5
- Extra range after the cast begins. Once you start casting, the ability gets more range to finish, so a boss shifting a few yards or a dungeon mob drifting is much less likely to cancel it.
- No more 5 second cooldown after a cancelled cast.
- Fury slow is limited. If you cancel and recast, Collapsing Star can only slow Fury drain for a total of about 1.5 full casts. After that, Fury drain resumes at full speed whether or not a cast is interrupted or restarted.
Smaller Devourer tuning
- Soulforged Blades now gives 18% critical strike chance to Hungering Slash and Voidblade (was 15%).
- Voidpurge now reduces the cooldown of Void Ray during Void Metamorphosis by 2.5 seconds (was 2).
Talent tree reshuffle
The notes say many Devourer talents have changed positions. Blizzard's reasoning is that the final gate was very dense. Two of its talents, The Hunt and Eradicate, are moving to the middle gate, and other talents move into the capstone slots. The dev note singles them out for a reason: The Hunt is a core part of Void-Scarred builds, and Eradicate is a key piece of any build's AoE damage.
This is the part that will break your saved loadout. Expect to rebuild your import strings after patch day instead of assuming your old tree still maps cleanly. The notes do not list every moved talent, so check the tree in game before a key or a raid night.
Demon Hunter: Void-Scarred Hero Talents
The Void-Scarred tree has been the weaker Devourer hero path, and the developers' note explains why in plain terms. Several of its biggest bonuses were tied to entering Void Metamorphosis. Casting Collapsing Star delays your next Metamorphosis, so Void-Scarred players were being discouraged from casting the ability Blizzard calls a feature of Devourer's rotation. 12.1.5 fixes that by granting some Void-Scarred bonuses when you cast Collapsing Star instead.
The notes do not spell out the old Demonic Intensity text, only the new lines, so that cell says so instead of guessing.
Line by line
- Demonic Intensity: Collapsing Star now resets the cooldown of The Hunt, and the empowered version of The Hunt deals 30% more damage.
- Violent Transformation: now resets Soul Immolation, and no longer resets The Hunt or adds the old 25% Hunt damage.
- Monster Rising: Intellect out of demon form drops to 10% (was 15%) while Collapsing Star damage rises to 20% (was 15%).
Druid: Restoration
Restoration has one line, but it changes a talent's whole design. The developers' note says Nature's Bounty caused "some rotational friction" and is being redesigned to work better with the rest of the healing kit.
The new version: Regrowth heals up to 3 allies who have Rejuvenation active for 15% of its healing, prioritizing the lowest health allies.
That reads as a spread-healing effect on a cast that is already a single-target tool. In a raid with Rejuvenation rolling on many players, every Regrowth becomes a small group heal. In Mythic+, where Rejuvenation coverage is easy to keep on a five-man group, it could add free healing on every Regrowth. The risk is that the old version was something a player had to plan around, and the new one is automatic. I would hold judgment until you see how it feels on live tooltips, because there is no throughput number in the notes.
Evoker
Evoker has changes in both Augmentation and Preservation, plus a PvP entry.
Augmentation
- Chronowarden: Temporality duration and Temporal Burst duration are both now increased by Mastery: Timewalker.
- Scalecommander: Melt Armor damage increased by 100%.
Preservation
- Merithra's Blessing duration is reduced to 30 seconds (was 1 minute).
- Consume Flame no longer double dips from healing increases on the target.
- Flameshaper: Consume Flame healing is increased by 20%.
There are also Chronowarden bug fixes: extending Fire Breath with Double-time could stop Life-Giver's Flame from healing, and Afterimage could cause Deep Breath to sometimes cast Living Flame on the Evoker.
Evoker PvP
Under Player versus Player, Merithra's Blessing is now considered an Arcane spell and can be cast while locked out of Nature. That is a small but real quality-of-life fix for arena Preservation players who get school-locked.
Hunter
Hunter's only real design change is on Marksmanship. The developers' note says Unload is being replaced with a talent centered on Aimed Shot, "giving a window of opportunity when you get an Aimed Shot critical strike."
- Unload has been removed.
- New talent, Blood Fletching: Aimed Shot critical strikes now cause the Master Marksman bleed effect at 20% of the damage dealt. For 4 seconds after a critical Aimed Shot, the target takes additional bleed damage any time your abilities damage that target.
- Fixed: Explosive Shot would automatically select and fire at a nearby target if pressed with no target selected.
There are also fixes for other Hunter specs. Dark Ranger: Umbral Reach was not generating Trick Shots when Bleak Powder hit exactly 2 targets. Survival: Strike as One bonus damage from Raptor Swipe (Rank 3) did not work properly while Aspect of the Eagle was active, and Raptor Swipe had a longer range than intended during Aspect of the Eagle. In our read, trimming a range that was longer than intended is a quiet nerf to Survival's reach, even though the notes frame it as a bug.
Mage
Mage is almost entirely bug fixes, and the Frost list is long.
- Arcane: Several Arcane spells have been added to the Spell Density system for additional visibility options for non-Mage players.
- Frost: Splitting Ice damage modifier was not applying to Frostbolt, causing both Frostbolts to hit for full damage. Switching to Spellslinger after casting Frostfire Bolt could apply the Splitting Ice multiplier to the main target in addition to the secondary target. A Splitting Ice Frostbolt had a smaller search radius for its second target. Shatter could skip Fingers of Frost when two Ice Lances were in the air (also fixed for Thermal Void). Interrupting Ray of Frost by casting it again could stop Fingers of Frost from generating (Crystalline Refraction).
- Frostfire: Frostfire Empowerment effects did not apply to the second target when Splitting Ice made Frostbolt hit twice. The Frostfire Infusion tooltip was updated, functionality unchanged.
- Spellslinger: Splinterstorm is now trackable in the Cooldown Manager as a Buff and is no longer removed at the start of a raid encounter or Mythic+.
Monk
Monk has one entry: Transcendence: Transfer could be used while silenced if you were talented into Transcendence: Linked Spirits. That is fixed. After the Brewmaster and Mistweaver buffs in the October 6 pass, there is no number change for Monk in the 12.1.5 notes.
Priest
- Discipline: Master the Darkness duration is reduced to 30 seconds (was 1 minute).
- Holy: Holy Celerity and Ultimate Serenity have swapped positions on the specialization tree.
The Holy swap is the interesting one. Blizzard's note calls Ultimate Serenity "a powerful tool for Holy priests, specifically in M+," and says it is moving up the tree to reduce how much investment it takes. The goal is more talent choice beyond the second gate. In our read, that is a talent point efficiency buff for Mythic+ Holy, not a direct healing number.
Rogue
Outlaw
Deft Maneuvers changes how Blade Flurry gets more expensive. It used to increase Blade Flurry's Energy cost by a flat 30. Now it increases the cost by 5 per target hit, up to 30. The developers' note says the point is to make Blade Flurry a little cheaper to maintain on small numbers of additional targets.
By our own arithmetic, a flat 5 per target with a cap of 30 means you only pay the old 30 once the pull is large. A two or three target pull costs notably less than before. That matters in Mythic+ because most pulls are not the large ones.
Subtlety
This is the one that could end up moving a lot of numbers. Blizzard has corrected Shadow damage modifiers across Subtlety so bonuses apply consistently to every individual Shadow damage ability, including Secret Technique's secondary hits, Shadowed Finishers attacks and Shadow Cloned attacks.
Effects that deal Shadow damage based on damage dealt by attacks, such as Shadow Blades, Goremaw's Bite mirror damage and Lingering Shadow, should now benefit correctly when the input attacks are physical and no longer double dip when the input attacks are Shadow.
That is an accuracy fix that can cut both ways. Some interactions get a bonus they were missing, and some stop getting a bonus twice. The notes themselves say the impact on overall damage output "remains under review." Subtlety players should expect to see numbers move in logs in week one and should not treat the first parse as final. If you main Trickster, this lands on top of the October 6 buffs from our tuning breakdown.
Other Rogue changes are cosmetic: Shiv no longer plays an impact visual on the Rogue, Mutilate has an updated weapon trail, Crimson Tempest has an updated animation with a weapon trail, and Shadow Blades has new cast and weapon visuals.
Shaman
- Enhancement: Static Accumulation could cause Maelstrom Weapon stacks to stop automatically generating if activated during certain points of Ascendance or Doom Winds. Fixed.
- Restoration: Extending Riptide through Swelling Tides now extends Riptide's timer instead of resetting it.
- Restoration: Nature's Swiftness and Ancestral Swiftness did not properly make Healing Rain instant cast. Fixed.
Warrior: Protection and Colossus
- Protection: Execute damage increased by 30%.
- Colossus: Practiced Strikes now also reduces the Rage cost of Execute and Revenge by 10.
What This Means for Mythic+, Raid and PvP
These are our reads and not Blizzard claims. The most concrete buffs are Prot Warrior and Augmentation. The most interesting unknowns are Void-Scarred, Blood Fletching and Nature's Bounty, because they are new designs, and new designs are where the surprises live. The nerf column is short: Discipline's Master the Darkness and Preservation's Merithra's Blessing are the only straight reductions in the notes, plus the possible Survival range correction.
On PvP, the notes contain exactly one entry, the Preservation Merithra's Blessing school change. Nothing else is tagged PvP, which means the PvP changes from October 6 are the ones still shaping the arena landscape.
Other 12.1.5 Items in the Same Notes
I will keep this short because our existing guides cover them.
- Item level. Ascendant Venomstones drop from every Heroic or Mythic raid boss, Mythic+ keystones at +10 and above, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves and Nightmare Prey Hunt Champion gear chests. Ten of them near the Catalyst in Silvermoon City raise the item level of a fully upgraded Season 2 Hero, Myth or maximum quality Tidal Crafted weapon, trinket or necklace. The crest cap is lifted the week of October 20. See our Venomstones guide.
- Keystone Myth. A new achievement, Midnight Keystone Myth: Season 2, requires a Mythic+ rating of at least 3600 and rewards the title "the Venomous Contender" and the Timelost Saddle. The launch announcement also says Blizzard will make targeted dungeon tuning adjustments for difficulty outliers when it returns, and the notes include a Murder Row fix for Zaen Bladesorrow's Murder in a Row safe spot.
- Prey catch-up. Players below rank 4 receive 4000 Journey progress, a full rank, per hunt. Players between ranks 4 and 9 receive 2000 Journey progress from each of their first four hunts of the week. Afflicted and Tormented Souls can no longer be used while a hunt is active.
- Warband reputation. Legion and Battle for Azeroth reputations are now shared across the warband.
- UI. Player coordinates below the minimap, dispel "ants" on raid frames, a pulsing dispel overlay, #showtooltip in macro pings, and a "Pulse Your Health" audio setting.
- Housing. Floorplan edit mode keybinds, blueprint collection shortcuts, stairwell blueprint export and dye tooltip clarity.
If this patch has you thinking about a new main, AccountShark keeps WoW account listings for players who would rather skip the early levelling.
Patch Day Checklist for Class Changes
- Demon Hunter: Expect to rebuild your Devourer loadout. Check where The Hunt and Eradicate now sit before you import anything.
- Marksmanship: If you ran Unload, repick before the first raid night, and compare Blood Fletching against your previous pick.
- Discipline: Re-time your cooldown plan around a 30 second Master the Darkness.
- Subtlety: Do not trust the first log. Run a few pulls and compare against last week.
- Protection Warrior: Revisit your Rage priority with the cheaper Revenge and Execute.
- Restoration Druid: Test Nature's Bounty on a dummy and in a low key.
- Everyone: Treat the notes as the PTR baseline. Blizzard can still change numbers before live.
Frequently Asked Questions
When do the WoW 12.1.5 class changes go live?
Patch 12.1.5 releases with weekly maintenance on October 13 in North America, and Wowhead lists October 14 for Europe. The class changes in the official notes arrive with the patch, not before.
Which classes are changed in the 12.1.5 patch notes?
Ten classes have entries: Demon Hunter, Druid, Evoker, Hunter, Mage, Monk, Priest, Rogue, Shaman and Warrior. Death Knight, Paladin and Warlock are not listed in the Classes section.
What changes for Devourer Demon Hunter in 12.1.5?
Collapsing Star no longer goes on a 5 second cooldown when its cast is cancelled, it gains range after the cast starts, and its Fury drain slow is limited to about 1.5 full casts if you cancel and recast. Soulforged Blades goes to 18% crit chance and Voidpurge reduces the Void Ray cooldown by 2.5 seconds. Many talents also move, including The Hunt and Eradicate.
Is Void-Scarred better after 12.1.5?
The notes rework its talents around casting Collapsing Star, including a 30% empowered The Hunt and 20% Collapsing Star damage from Monster Rising. That removes the old conflict between casting the Star and entering Metamorphosis. Whether it beats Annihilator is not stated in the notes and needs testing after the patch.
What is Blood Fletching for Marksmanship Hunter?
It is a new talent that replaces Unload. Aimed Shot critical strikes apply the Master Marksman bleed at 20% of the damage dealt, and for 4 seconds after a critical Aimed Shot the target takes extra bleed damage whenever your abilities damage it.
Did Protection Warrior get buffed in 12.1.5?
Yes. Execute damage is increased by 30%, and the Colossus talent Practiced Strikes now also reduces the Rage cost of Execute and Revenge by 10.
What happened to Nature's Bounty for Restoration Druid?
It was redesigned. Regrowth now heals up to 3 allies who have Rejuvenation active for 15% of its healing, prioritizing the lowest health allies. Blizzard says the old design caused rotational friction.
Are these the same as the October 6 class changes?
No. The October 6 weekly maintenance tuning is already live and covers items like Devourer single target buffs, Brewmaster durability, Mistweaver healing and Enhancement damage. The 12.1.5 notes are a separate list that arrives with the patch. Our October 6 breakdown covers the earlier pass.
Can these numbers still change before 12.1.5 launches?
Yes. The notes are the current plan, and Blizzard can adjust numbers before the patch goes live and through hotfixes afterward. Check the in game tooltips on patch day before you commit to a build.
What else is in the 12.1.5 patch notes besides class changes?
The notes also cover the Labyrinth of Kindo'jan, The Unbinding of Kith'ix, Aqir Invasions, the Ascendant Venomstones item level upgrade, the 3600 rating Keystone Myth achievement, Prey catch-up, housing updates and warband sharing for Legion and Battle for Azeroth reputations. Our 12.1.5 hub guide and prep checklist walk through those.
Final Take
The class section of the 12.1.5 notes is less about raising numbers and more about repairing friction. Devourer's Collapsing Star finally stops punishing an interrupted cast, Void-Scarred gets a tree that matches what the spec wants to do, Marksmanship swaps in a talent that rewards crits, and Protection Warrior gets the cleanest buff on the page. The places to watch are the new designs, Blood Fletching, Nature's Bounty and Subtlety's corrected Shadow damage, because the notes themselves say those numbers are still under review. Read the tooltips on October 13, test before you commit gold or time, and plan your first raid and key around the old tuning being the baseline. Anything that changes after that will arrive through hotfixes.
