VALORANT Champions 2026 in Shanghai closed the second elimination day on October 2, and the host region’s last two teams are gone. Global Esports swept former world champions EDward Gaming 2-0 in the Group B elimination match — Summit 13-5, Sunset 13-6 — sending EDG home without a single map won at this event and booking GE a Group B decider against LOUD. Later the same day, T1 beat JD Gaming 2-1 in the Group A elimination — Lotus 13-11, Abyss 13-3, Haven 13-5 — eliminating JDG and sending T1 to the Group A decider against FUT Esports.
This Day 8 guide locks both finished elimination box scores and the T1–JDG veto from TalkEsport’s GE vs EDG recap, VLR’s T1 eliminates JDG write-up, TheSpike’s match veto, and Mais Esports’ series page; maps the remaining decider path into playoffs; and cross-links our earlier Shanghai coverage so you can rebuild the full week without guessing scores.
For the full Shanghai calendar and group draw, start with the Champions Shanghai groups and schedule guide. Recent write-ups: Day 7 (Oct 1) — Liquid 2-1 TYLOO, NS 2-0 XLG, Day 6 (Sept 30) — Vitality 2-0 LOUD, 100T 2-0 FUT, Day 5 (Sept 29) — PRX 2-1 G2, NRG 2-1 KC, Group A Sept 27, Group B Sept 26.
Why elimination day hits different at Champions
Champions Shanghai uses a classic GSL double-elimination group. Each group of four plays opening matches, then:
- The two opening winners meet in a winners match. The victor qualifies directly to playoffs.
- The two opening losers meet in an elimination match. The loser goes home with prize money and no second life.
- The winners-match loser faces the elimination-match winner in a decider for the group’s second playoff berth.
If you are catching up mid-tournament, treat Day 8 as the day China’s home Champions run officially ended. EDG and JDG both lost their elimination matches. Combined with TYLOO and XLG’s exits on Day 7, VCT China leaves Shanghai with zero series wins. VLR’s Day 8 recap puts China’s map ledger at 2 wins and 16 losses across the whole group stage.
Group B elimination: Global Esports 2-0 EDward Gaming
Series scoreboard
Series: Global Esports 2-0 EDward Gaming. Aggregate rounds: GE 26, EDG 11.
TalkEsport’s same-day recap is the cleanest English-language lock for the box scores: Summit 13-5, Sunset 13-6, with no third map required. The result sends EDG out of Champions 2026 and moves GE into the Group B decider against LOUD on October 4.
How GE controlled Summit
Global Esports entered the elimination match one loss away from ending India’s first Champions appearance. They answered with their cleanest series of the event. On Summit, GE built an 8-4 attacking half and then held EDG to a single second-half round, closing 13-5. TalkEsport highlights PatMen on Astra (21 kills, 326 ACS, 1.55 rating), Kr1stal on Fade (17 kills, 1.49 rating), and UdoTan on Neon (19 kills) as the spine of that map. The point is not the leaderboard itself — it is that GE never let EDG settle into the slow, mid-round setups that defined the former champions’ better international maps in past years.
Taking Summit that hard flipped the series math. EDG needed two maps in a row. GE needed one more.
Sunset closes the sweep
Sunset never became the long fight EDG needed. Global Esports kept the same tempo that won Summit and closed 13-6. Across both maps EDG managed only 11 rounds. That is an unusually one-sided margin for an elimination series at Champions, especially against a roster that won the world title in 2024.
Context from Group B’s opening week still matters here. GE dropped their opener to Vitality 1-2 after a Summit thriller that ended 13-11 for Vitality. EDG arrived in the elimination bracket after a 0-2 loss to LOUD (Lotus 8-13, Summit 5-13). Both teams were on the same cliff: win and live, lose and leave. GE were the side that played like they still had a tournament ahead of them.
What EDG’s exit means
EDward Gaming leave Shanghai without winning a series and without taking a single map across two Group B matches. TalkEsport frames that as a blunt fact, not a narrative flourish: zero series, zero maps. For a former world champion and one of the most recognizable Chinese organizations in VALORANT, that is a historically poor Champions showing. It also clears the Group B path: Vitality already locked the upper playoff berth, and the second ticket is now a straight LOUD vs Global Esports series on October 4.
For GE, the win keeps a historic Pacific Stage 2 run alive. They reverse-swept Nongshim in the Pacific grand final earlier this season to book Shanghai as the region’s first seed. Eliminating EDG is the next chapter of that debut, not the ending. One more win against LOUD puts India’s first Champions team into the playoffs.
Group A elimination: T1 2-1 JD Gaming
Series scoreboard
Series: T1 2-1 JD Gaming.
VLR’s same-day recap locks the map order and scores. Mais Esports confirms the finished series as T1 2-1. TheSpike locks the veto before the maps were played.
Map veto (TheSpike)
- T1 ban Split
- JD Gaming ban Ascent
- T1 pick Lotus
- JD Gaming pick Abyss
- T1 ban Summit
- JD Gaming ban Sunset
- Haven remains
Lotus: T1 steal their own pick 13-11
Lotus did not start like a T1 home map. VLR’s recap describes JDG’s Chamber/Vyse double-Sentinel shell completely disrupting T1’s solo Neon opener. crownfisher led JDG to a pistol and a 6-4 lead; the half closed 6-6 after Munchkin dragged T1 back. JDG then converted the second-half pistol and bonus, stretched the lead to 11-6, and looked ready to steal T1’s pick.
The comeback is the map story. Meteor took over late-round duels, including a decisive 1v2, and T1 closed 13-11 without overtime. That is a brutal map to lose as JDG: you had the read, the lead, and the economy, and still walked into Abyss down a map instead of up one.
Abyss: JDG’s 13-3 statement
Abyss was the response China needed. JDG’s double-Duelist with Harbor cooked against T1’s Harbor-less double-Duelist look. VLR notes zhe on Yoru as the standout on a defense half that put JDG up 9-3 at the break. A second pistol and bonus conversion ended the map 13-3. For twenty minutes, Shanghai still had a Chinese team alive with a real path.
That path required Haven.
Haven: T1 close 13-5 and end China’s run
Haven decided everything. T1 surprised the room by running Munchkin on Phoenix. JDG kept the double-Duelist shape — jkuro on Waylay, zhe on Neon — and won the opening pistol. Once rifles came out, T1 repeatedly attacked B and JDG never found a stable answer. The half closed 8-4 T1. JDG needed the second pistol to stay in the series. BuZz and T1 converted it, beat the force rounds, won the necessary 1v1s, and closed Haven 13-5.
Series over. T1 2-1. JDG eliminated. Per VLR, that confirms no more Chinese teams in Shanghai before the group stage even finished.
China at Champions Shanghai: the full exit ledger
Day 8 is not just two elimination results. It is the end of the host region’s tournament.
- TYLOO — eliminated Day 7 by Team Liquid 2-1 (first team out; China’s first map win of the event was TYL’s Summit).
- Xi Lai Gaming — eliminated Day 7 by Nongshim 2-0.
- EDward Gaming — eliminated Day 8 by Global Esports 2-0; zero maps in two series.
- JD Gaming — eliminated Day 8 by T1 2-1; took Abyss 13-3, then lost Haven.
Updated group picture after Day 8
Group A
- 100 Thieves — already playoff-locked (beat FUT 2-0 in the winners match).
- FUT Esports — wait in the Group A decider.
- T1 — advance from elimination; face FUT on October 4.
- JD Gaming — eliminated.
Group B
- Team Vitality — already playoff-locked (beat LOUD 2-0 in the winners match).
- LOUD — wait in the Group B decider.
- Global Esports — advance from elimination; face LOUD on October 4.
- EDward Gaming — eliminated.
Group C (unchanged from Day 7)
- Paper Rex — playoff-locked.
- Decider Oct 3: G2 Esports vs Team Liquid.
- TYLOO — eliminated.
Group D (unchanged from Day 7)
- NRG — playoff-locked.
- Decider Oct 3: Karmine Corp vs Nongshim RedForce.
- Xi Lai Gaming — eliminated.
Remaining path into the playoffs
Four playoff berths are locked. Four remain. The schedule from here is simple if you keep the decider dates straight:
Saturday, October 3
- Group C decider: G2 Esports vs Team Liquid — winner takes Group C’s second playoff spot.
- Group D decider: Karmine Corp vs Nongshim RedForce — winner takes Group D’s second playoff spot.
Sunday, October 4
- Group A decider: FUT Esports vs T1 — winner takes Group A’s second playoff spot.
- Group B decider: LOUD vs Global Esports — winner takes Group B’s second playoff spot.
If you are tracking Pick’Ems, Day 8’s practical takeaway is narrow: do not leave Chinese sides in any remaining group predictions, and treat GE vs LOUD and FUT vs T1 as true coin-flip-or-better series rather than formalities. GE just swept a former world champion. T1 just survived a 13-3 Abyss blowout and still closed Haven cleanly. Neither decider is a free ticket.
Player and team storylines worth keeping
Global Esports’ debut is now one win from playoffs
GE’s season already had the Pacific trophy and the reverse sweep over Nongshim. Day 8 adds a Champions elimination sweep over EDG. The narrative risk for GE was always that a debut event would end in a close-but-not-quite story after the Vitality opener. Instead they answered with a 26-11 aggregate and a clear identity: Astra/Fade utility control into Neon space creation, with PatMen and Kr1stal setting the pace. The LOUD decider will test whether that identity survives Brazil’s duelists.
T1 survive the chaos map
T1’s Champions path has been ugly and alive. They dropped the opener to 100 Thieves 0-2, then needed a Lotus comeback and a Haven stomping after getting punched 13-3 on Abyss. That is the profile of a team that can still beat FUT on October 4 — and also the profile of a team that can implode if the next series starts the way Abyss did. Watch whether Munchkin’s Phoenix look on Haven was a one-map surprise or a real role flex for the decider.
EDG and JDG leave with opposite map stories
EDG never found a round script. JDG at least stole Abyss in emphatic fashion and forced a third map. For Chinese fans in the building, JDG’s Abyss was the last loud home moment of the group stage. Haven ended it.
How Day 8 fits the week you already watched
If you have been following our Shanghai drip, Day 8 is the hinge between the elimination half and the decider half:
- Group B Sept 26 set Vitality and LOUD on the upper path and dropped GE/EDG into today’s elimination.
- Group A Sept 27 set 100T and FUT on the upper path and dropped T1/JDG into today’s elimination.
- Day 5 locked PRX and NRG into playoffs.
- Day 6 locked Vitality and 100T into playoffs and parked LOUD/FUT in the Oct 4 deciders.
- Day 7 eliminated TYLOO and XLG and parked Liquid/NS into the Oct 3 deciders.
Practical viewing notes for the next two days
- Patch context: Champions Shanghai is playing the tournament-locked patch from the group stage rulebook, not every live Act patch that dropped around the event window. Do not expect mid-event agent reworks to bail out a losing map pool.
- Schedule drift: Official slots are the usual Champions group times (first match then second match of the day). If an early series goes long, the later series starts late. Build buffer if you are watching both.
- Drops and Pick’Ems: Group Pick’Ems are already locked. Playoff Pick’Ems open after the Oct 4 draw. Watching with a linked Riot account remains the path for the watch-and-earn cosmetics Riot listed for Shanghai.
- Soft watch priority: If you can only catch one Oct 3 series, G2 vs Liquid is the cleaner “who belongs in playoffs” argument from Group C. If you can only catch one Oct 4 series, GE vs LOUD is the louder debut-story vs duelists storyline.
What we are not guessing
No invented player ratings beyond what TalkEsport and VLR published. No invented map scores. No predicted Oct 3/Oct 4 winners in the scoreboard sections above. Secondary betting pages and previews that still showed “upcoming” after the series finished were ignored in favor of finished-match sources. If a later official VLR match page posts a minor ACS variance versus TalkEsport’s Summit notes, the round scores in this article remain the locked facts: GE 13-5 / 13-6, T1 13-11 / 3-13 / 13-5.
