Jagex just shipped another Gathering Efficiencies batch on September 23, 2026, and it landed earlier than the Sept 30 window many players were still planning around. If you read our Gathering Efficiencies Sept 30 preview, treat this post as the live supersede for everything that actually went in today. Daeyalt mining got the headline buff, Poison Dynamite got cheaper to craft, Hunter traps can pull from your Log Basket, Official Client farming finally shows compost state at a glance, and UIMs can cook at the Nex bank area.
Primary source for every change below is Jagex's official newspost Further Gathering Efficiencies (23 September 2026). Stackable net traps are not in this build. Jagex says the remaining Gathering Efficiencies list, including stackable net traps, is still queued for later weekly updates.
What went live on September 23
Here is the Gathering Efficiencies slice that actually hit game worlds today, plus the related QoL that rode along in the same newspost.
- Daeyalt Shards: Celestial Signet and Celestial Ring Mining enhancer now apply. On a successful mine you have a 1 in 10 chance to receive double Daeyalt Shards.
- Noted Daeyalt Essence: Speak to Noranna Tytanin in the Daeyalt Essence Mine to toggle noted essence to inventory or send straight to bank. UIMs always receive essence in inventory, with a noted/unnoted toggle.
- Poison Dynamite: Craft cost drops to 1 Nightshade or Cave Nightshade (was 3).
- Deadfall / Pitfall traps: Can use logs stored in your Log Basket. Inventory logs are still consumed first.
- Farming compost overlay (Official Client + mobile): Patch indicators show C / U / S / E. Toggle under Settings → Activities → "Farming compost overlay", with color choice.
- Nex bank area: You can light a fire and cook food there (big UIM quality-of-life win before the fight).
Daeyalt: why this is the real headline
Darkmeyer Daeyalt has been one of those grinds where the ring story never quite matched the rock. In the original Gathering Efficiencies proposal, Jagex floated a Celestial Signet-only +1 shard on successful mines. During development they changed course for consistency and accessibility:
- The enhancer now applies to both the Celestial Ring and the Celestial Signet.
- Instead of a flat +1, you get a 1 in 10 chance to double the shards from a successful Mining action, matching how these items behave elsewhere.
Pair that with the Noranna Tytanin toggle and the loop stops feeling like inventory theater. Convert shards to essence as noted into your inventory, or push them straight to the bank if you are not on a UIM. UIMs, who cannot bank the essence the same way, always take essence into inventory but can still choose noted versus unnoted so the stack behaves like a modern skilling product instead of a bag of loose rocks.
Practical takeaway for a Daeyalt session after this update:
- Wear Celestial Ring or Signet before you start. The double-shard roll only matters if the enhancer is active.
- Talk to Noranna once and set the essence destination you actually want. Do not rediscover the dialogue mid-trip.
- Keep your usual pickaxe and stamina plan. This patch improves yield and bank friction; it does not rewrite the rock cycle itself.
- If you were waiting for a "Sept 30 Daeyalt day," you can start that prep now. The live date is September 23.
Poison Dynamite: one Nightshade instead of three
Broccoli Poison Dynamite farming just got a lot less Nightshade-hungry. Creating Poison Dynamite now needs 1 Nightshade or Cave Nightshade instead of 3. Jagex framed it as making the supply easier to sustain, which is exactly how it plays: fewer herb runs or cave trips per dynamite stack, more time actually using the product on the content that wants it.
If you stockpile Nightshade for other recipes, re-budget. Dynamite is no longer the three-for-one sink it used to be. Cave Nightshade remains a valid substitute, so your existing route still works; you simply burn one plant per craft.
Hunter: Log Basket deadfalls and pitfalls
Deadfall and Pitfall traps can now be built with logs stored in your Log Basket. Inventory logs still get consumed first, so the priority order is familiar: empty the bag in your hands, then dip into the basket.
This is the rumour and long-trap quality-of-life change people asked for. You can bank a basket full of the right wood, walk the rumour loop, and stop racing tree respawns every time a trap needs rebuilding. It does not make traps stackable. It just removes the awkward withdraw-and-rebuild dance that made basket storage feel half-finished for Hunter.
If you are mid-rumour season, refill the basket at the bank before you leave. The update rewards players who plan wood ahead of the loop instead of chopping between spawns.
Farming compost overlay on Official Client and mobile
RuneLite players already had compost plugins. Official Client and mobile players did not. Today's overlay closes that gap.
When enabled, farming patches show a compact letter for compost state:
| Letter | Meaning |
|---|---|
| C | Composted |
| U | Ultracompost |
| S | Supercompost |
| E | Empty (not composted) |
Enable it under Settings → Activities → "Farming compost overlay" and pick the indicator color you can actually see on your patches. You no longer need to Inspect every patch on a mobile herb run just to confirm you already dropped ultracompost.
Nex bank cookfire (especially for UIMs)
You can now light a fire at the Nex bank area and cook food there. Jagex called out UIMs specifically, and they are right: Ultimate Ironmen preparing for Nex no longer need a weird detour just to turn raw food into fight food next to the bank chest. Bring logs, light the fire, cook, and walk into the instance with a stocked inventory.
Regular accounts benefit too if you like staging food on-site, but the UIM friction drop is the real design win.
What is still NOT live
Do not treat this as the full Gathering Efficiencies finish line.
- Stackable net traps are still pending.
- Jagex explicitly says remaining Gathering Efficiencies changes, including stackable net traps, stay on the list for later weekly updates once schedule space opens.
- Our earlier Sept 30 preview described a broader remaining package. Part of that package shipped early on Sept 23. The rest, especially net traps, is still future content.
Same-day extras worth knowing
The Gathering Efficiencies section is the spine of this guide, but the Sept 23 newspost packed several skilling-adjacent and world QoL notes worth a quick pass.
Player-named Dog Shelter puppies
Twelve Dog Shelter puppies received official player-given names from the Alveus Sanctuary fundraiser livestream giveaways. The winners and names Jagex listed are Smoky, Zoey, Blaze, Loot, Timber, Vinny, Leo, Rumi, Wrigley, Keanna, Artsi, and Victor. Head to the Dog Shelter in-game if you want to meet the renamed pack.
Z-buffer and scenery fixes
Clipping and flickering cleanup landed for the Sabre-toothed kyatt pit trap animation, an Aldarin fermenting vat, Braindeath Island plank walkways, Legends' Guild Dungeon totem/bookshelf and passage visibility, Varrock Church Saradomin stained glass flicker, and Ardougne Market Song of the Elves cutscene windows. A scenery piece previously named "null" also got a real name.
Coral Farm pets and underwater followers
You can enter the Coral Farm underwater area at The Great Conch without banking your pet, matching last week's Fossil Island underwater change. Pets that do not benefit from Probita's insurance still need banking. Soup, Tiny Tempor, and Lil'viathan now follow underwater like Pet Kraken and Pet Chaos Elemental.
Medallion of the Deep, Wiki Lookup, Sarachnis clues, Sailing fish
- You can obtain a replacement Medallion of the Deep even if one already sits in a STASH unit.
- Wiki Lookup works with the Bank open. Mobile no longer freezes when using Wiki Lookup on Grand Exchange items.
- Clue scroll/box linger code was reworked for private boss instances and applied to Sarachnis, with Jagex hoping future bosses inherit the behavior more reliably.
- Sailing fish (Giant krill, Haddock, Yellowfin, Halibut, Bluefin, Marlin) now appear in the Healing tab of the Hitpoints skill guide.
Known issue coldfix
The Legends' Guild totem that vanished on Official Client desktop (still visible on mobile) was coldfixed.
RuneFest, Summit, and Pirate Rum Rebellion
- RuneFest 2026: October 3–4 at the Birmingham NEC.
- OSRS RuneFest Summit: October 3, 13:00 UTC on Twitch, roadmap reveals.
- Pirate Rum Rebellion community casual PvP event: Saturday September 26, 18:00 UTC, World 392. Port Sarim clash fantasy with pirate vs navy costume vibes; details live in the official OSRS Discord and organiser infographic.
How this changes your skilling week
If you only have time for one response to the patch, do Daeyalt. Equip Ring or Signet, set Noranna's toggle, and run a session with the new double-shard EV in mind. Nightshade stockpiles suddenly stretch further for Poison Dynamite. Hunter rumour runners should refill Log Baskets before the next loop. Mobile and Official Client farmers should turn the compost overlay on once and forget Inspect spam. UIM Nex learners should test the bank cookfire before their next attempt.
None of this requires buying a new account identity, but if you are rebuilding a skilling-focused iron or main and need a cleaner starting point, AccountShark's OSRS listings are there when you want a head start rather than another tutorial island.
Timeline check versus the Sept 30 preview
We previously covered Gathering Efficiencies as a package that Jagex had associated with a later September window, with stackable nets and several of today's items called out as remaining work. Today's newspost moves a large Mid-September chunk live on September 23 and keeps nets for later. Use this live guide for what is in game now. Keep the preview article only as historical context for what was promised versus what still waits.
Jagex also noted that Summer Sweep-Up priorities pushed these Gathering Efficiencies later than they wanted, and thanked players for patience. That matches the staggered feel of the rollout: some pieces earlier in the year, a chunk today, nets still outstanding.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Celestial Signet required for the Daeyalt double-shard chance?
No. Both the Celestial Ring and the Celestial Signet Mining enhancer effects apply to Daeyalt Shards. You get a 1 in 10 chance to double shards on a successful mine with either item's enhancer active. Jagex changed the original Signet-only +1 proposal during development.
How do I turn on noted Daeyalt Essence?
Speak to Noranna Tytanin in the Daeyalt Essence Mine. Choose whether converted essence arrives noted in your inventory or goes straight to the bank. Ultimate Ironmen always receive essence in inventory and only toggle noted versus unnoted.
Are stackable net traps live on September 23?
No. Jagex says remaining Gathering Efficiencies changes, including stackable net traps, are still on the list for later weekly updates. Deadfall and Pitfall Log Basket support is live; stacking nets is not.
Where is the farming compost overlay setting?
On the Official Client including mobile: Settings → Activities → "Farming compost overlay". Letters are C (composted), U (ultracompost), S (supercompost), and E (empty). You can choose the indicator color.
Did Poison Dynamite crafting change anything besides Nightshade count?
The official note is the Nightshade requirement: 1 Nightshade or Cave Nightshade instead of 3. That is the sustain buff. No other Poison Dynamite recipe rewrite is listed in the Sept 23 Gathering Efficiencies section.
Can I cook at Nex as an Ultimate Ironman now?
Yes. Lighting a fire at the Nex bank area is live, so you can cook food on-site while preparing for the fight. That is the change Jagex highlighted for UIMs in particular.
What happened to the Legends' Guild totem on desktop?
It vanished on Official Client desktop while remaining visible on mobile. Jagex lists that known issue as coldfixed in the same September 23 newspost.
When is the OSRS RuneFest Summit?
RuneFest runs October 3–4, 2026 at the Birmingham NEC. The OSRS Summit stream is October 3 at 13:00 UTC on Twitch. Separately, Pirate Rum Rebellion is the community PvP event on September 26 at 18:00 UTC on World 392.
Final checklist for tonight's login
- Equip Celestial Ring or Signet before Daeyalt.
- Set Noranna's noted/bank toggle once.
- Recraft Poison Dynamite budgets around 1 Nightshade.
- Fill the Log Basket before Hunter deadfalls/pitfalls.
- Enable farming compost overlay on Official Client or mobile.
- UIM Nex runners: test the bank cookfire.
- Do not expect stackable net traps yet.
- Optional: peek Dog Shelter names, Coral Farm pets, and Saturday's Pirate Rum Rebellion if you want a break from rocks and patches.
