Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Launch Guide (Oct 9): Norgan, Lost Rites, Title Update 4.0, Price & Platforms
QUICK ANSWER · Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen · OUT NOW Oct 9
• Out now: Capcom's Steam launch post went up on October 9, 2026 (2:29 AM CT). The expansion adds Norgan, a snowy new region with a loot-driven relic expedition loop, and 12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges across Vermund and Battahl.
• Price and platforms (Capcom press release): Dark Arisen (base game plus expansion) is $49.99 MSRP on Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The expansion alone is $29.99 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. You need the base game for the DLC.
• Free Title Update 4.0: Hard Mode (works on a new or existing save), a restart-from-the-beginning option that keeps your save data, the Orienteer pawn specialization, FSR 3 Frame Generation and DLSS 4.5 multi frame generation on Steam, and Enhanced PSSR on PS5 Pro.
• Recommended levels (Capcom Q&A): 40 for the Forsaken Dominion, 20 for Lost Rites. Both unlock early by talking to Brant at the Vernworth tavern.
• Looks: New hairstyles and tattoos in the Character Creator, plus a Norgan side-quest chain that unlocks appearance changes for Norgan weapons and armor while keeping their stats.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is out now. Capcom's launch post went live on October 9, 2026 and calls it a long-awaited day. The expansion drops a new snowy region called Norgan into the world, adds 12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges to the existing map, and arrives alongside a free Title Update 4.0 that adds Hard Mode, a restart-with-your-save option, and new PC upscaling and frame generation support. If you own the game and bounced off it, or if you finished it and miss the grind, this is the update the community has been asking for.

This guide is built from Capcom's own words: the launch post on Steam (I read the full text via Steam's news feed and a SteamPeaks copy), the October 9 press release as published by Saving Content, the official Title Update notes, Capcom's earlier Q&A with Director Kinoshita and Producer Oyama, and the Steam store pages. Where I lean on a news site instead, I name it. Where something is not in an official source, I label it as my read. Nothing below describes story beats or boss fights beyond what Capcom has said publicly, because that is the part you should discover yourself.

What Dark Arisen Adds at a Glance

Capcom's launch post names three major additions: the Forsaken Dominion, the Lost Rites, and a bundle of Hard Mode, new customization, and quality of life changes. The press release adds a fourth bullet: new Official Pawns. Here is the practical summary.

DetailWhat Capcom says or Steam lists
ReleaseOctober 9, 2026 (Capcom launch post on Steam, 07:29 UTC, 2:29 AM CT)
Dark Arisen (game + expansion)MSRP $49.99 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Capcom press release)
Expansion only (DLC)MSRP $29.99 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Also on PC through the Capcom Store (press release). Requires the base game (Steam page)
Steam platformsWindows only. The Steam listing shows no Mac or Linux builds for the expansion or the base game
Switch 2Arrives with the game and expansion together (Capcom press release and launch coverage)
Pre-order bonusNorgan Fashion Set - Northern Attire for digital pre-orders (Capcom Steam post, June 25)
Free base-game updateTitle Update 4.0 on PS5 Pro, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam (official update log)

A few notes on that table. Capcom's press release says Dark Arisen is on Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC at $49.99 MSRP, while the expansion is separately available as DLC on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam for $29.99. It does not list the standalone DLC for Switch 2, which matches launch coverage from Pixels in Orbit saying Switch 2 gets the game and expansion sold together as one package. Both Dark Arisen and the expansion are also on the Capcom Store for PC.

On PC, the Steam listing shows Windows only. I checked the store data for both the base game and the expansion and neither shows a Mac or Linux build. If you are on a Mac, that is a no for native play based on the official Steam listing.

When I looked at Steam's store data, the base game itself was priced at $39.99 in the US. Capcom's June 9 announcement said the base game would receive a permanent discount from June 24 and that certain DLC items would be discontinued at that time. Prices change, so check your own store.

The Forsaken Dominion of Norgan

Norgan is the headline. Capcom describes it as "a new story and region in the snowy north that adds a thrilling new loot-based relic expedition gameplay cycle." The land was once prosperous and has since fallen to ruin, and the launch post promises "fearsome new monsters and powerful foes." The press release adds the story setup: you are summoned to the long-abandoned northern region, where you must join forces with the enigmatic Eir and unravel the secrets of the undying Fallen Dragon. Along the way you must unearth and appraise forgotten relics to unlock powerful new weapons and abilities.

The relic expedition loop

The name Dark Arisen is a deliberate echo of the original Dragon's Dogma expansion, and the Q&A explains why. Producer Naoto Oyama gave three reasons for the title: it fits the story Capcom wants to tell in Norgan, the Expedition Cycle of the expansion is similar to the gameplay cycle of the original Dark Arisen, and the name gives veteran fans a sense of what to expect.

The difference from the original is structural. Oyama calls out the Relic Appraisal system as his pick for the thing players should try first, because "it's located in the open map of Norgan rather than a singular dungeon crawl." With Relic Appraisal you can obtain weapons, armor, and skills with random parameters. In plain English: you find relics, you appraise them, and the result is a roll. Oyama says he is excited to see clips of players pulling a very rare piece of gear out of a loot appraisal.

Who you meet and what to expect

Director Kento Kinoshita says new quests come from characters in Norgan, including locals in the Norgandian Settlement and members of a research expedition that arrived in the region like the Arisen. The Q&A also describes the monster design curve: when you first explore Norgan, new enemies suit an icy region, but as the story progresses it takes "a bit of a darker direction towards the middle and end," matching the Dark Arisen title. Kinoshita's summary is that "it starts cold and gets dark." Oyama adds that Norgan includes Norgan variants of existing enemies and some completely new enemies built on brand new skeletons.

The appearance change quest chain

This is the feature many players have wanted since 2024. Capcom confirms that within Norgan, a side-quest chain exists that, once completed, unlocks a feature to change the appearance of weapons and armor obtained in Norgan to that of other gear, while retaining the original stats and performance. Note the scope: Capcom's wording ties the feature to gear obtained in Norgan. Pixels in Orbit describes it as a transmog system in all but name, and also notes the Norgan-specific limitation. I would not assume it applies to your entire wardrobe until you have tested it in your own save.

From the Q&A, which Capcom repeated in its September 1 Steam post: the recommended starting level for the Forsaken Dominion is 40, and for Lost Rites it is 20. Oyama stresses these apply only to the beginning of each activity, and the challenge ramps up as you progress. Both can be accessed early in the main story, simply by speaking with Brant at the tavern after arriving in Vernworth, so you are free to try them below the recommended level. Capcom says it wants players to treat the numbers as a reference and choose their own path.

The 12 Lost Rites Dungeons

The Lost Rites are the other half of the expansion, and they are not in Norgan. Capcom says the 12 new dungeon challenges appear on the base game map throughout Vermund and Battahl. They are described as unique dungeons that offer rare equipment and legendary treasures that were previously wielded by Arisen of days past, assuming you can overcome the trials set by the Pathfinder.

The press release words it slightly differently, calling them "freshly uncovered dungeons" that house trials designed by the Pathfinder to test the Arisen's prowess and recover rare equipment "once held by past Arisen that now lay dormant."

Why this matters: Lost Rites give you a reason to go back into regions you already know. That is useful if you are returning after a break, because it means you do not have to commit to the cold north on day one. The Q&A's recommended starting level of 20 puts them well below Norgan's 40.

Capcom has not published a list of the 12 dungeons, their locations, or their rewards in the official posts I read, so I am not going to guess at names or layouts.

Difficulty, Vocations, and Skills

Kinoshita says both the Forsaken Dominion and Lost Rites are expansion content, so they were designed "to offer battles with an even greater sense of tension and challenge than the main game." Capcom also says it tuned the balance so that new players, mid-game players, and multi-playthrough veterans can all enjoy it, and that difficulty "gradually ramps up" as you push through. Late in the content, Kinoshita says, players who have already hit the stat cap should still find meaningful challenge, and Hard Mode is aimed at seasoned players whose stats have reached or are approaching the level cap.

On vocations, Oyama is direct: there are no brand-new vocations in the expansion. Instead you get more ways to build the ones you have.

  • Weapon skill slots: the number of equippable weapon skills went from four to six in Title Update 3.2, ahead of the expansion.
  • New skills per vocation: the Dark Arisen Expansion adds new skills for each vocation.
  • Higher levels of existing skills: Kinoshita mentions "new higher levels of existing skills" as part of what makes a retool fun.
Kinoshita's personal pick for what to try first is rethinking your favorite vocation with these expanded options, even if you think you know it inside out.

Title Update 4.0: Hard Mode and Everything Else

The free base game update went live alongside the expansion. Capcom's launch post highlights Hard Mode, a restart option, and the new PC upscaling support. The official update log gives the full list.

PlatformTitle Update 4.0 additions (official)
All platformsSupport for the Dark Arisen expansion; Hard Mode; a feature to carry current save data and start the game over from the beginning; Orienteer pawn specialization; forgotten riftstone rewards raised from 30 to 90 rift crystals; thermal properties added to some armor; bug fixes
PlayStation 5 ProOfficial support for Enhanced PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution)
SteamFSR 3 Frame Generation added to Graphics options; DLSS Super Resolution changed to version 4.5; DLSS Frame Generation now supports multi frame generation and works even when DLSS Super Resolution is off; DualSense adaptive triggers, vibration, and motion sensor enabled

Hard Mode

Hard Mode can be applied to an existing or new save. The launch post gives no numbers for enemy health, damage, or rewards, and the official notes say only "Added Hard Mode." In the Q&A, Kinoshita described the target audience as seasoned players whose stats have reached or are approaching the level cap. My read: if you are still in the early levels of a fresh save, you do not need this yet.

Start over with your save data

The notes list "a feature that allows players to carry over current saved data and start the game over from the beginning," and Capcom's launch post says you can restart "at any time using the same save data." Capcom does not spell out here exactly what carries over, so I would test it on a spare save slot before you commit your main character. Title Update 3.2 expanded each Arisen to three save slots with Autosave, Interim Save, and Last Inn Rest Save, so there is room to experiment.

New pawn specialization and small changes

  • Orienteer is the new pawn specialization. The notes give only the name, so what it does is for you to find out.
  • Forgotten riftstones now give 90 rift crystals instead of 30. For stones you already used, you receive the difference when you start the game after the update.
  • Thermal properties were added to some armor, which pairs sensibly with a snowy region.
  • Bug fixes cover pawn skill priority, pawns fighting barehanded, ladders, the main pawn speaking the wrong line on a high five, gift items on dismissal, button mapping for Weapon Skills 5 and 6, the quests The Phantom Oxcart and Ware the Corrupted Beasts, Sovran's Greaves parts, and save detection after an Unmaking Arrow.

PC graphics: FSR 3, DLSS 4.5, multi frame generation

On Steam, the update adds FSR 3 Frame Generation to the Graphics options. DLSS Super Resolution moves to version 4.5, and DLSS Frame Generation now supports multi frame generation and can be used even when DLSS Super Resolution is off. Capcom's launch post calls this "DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation." Capcom has also switched on DualSense adaptive triggers, vibration, and motion sensor functionality on Steam. PS5 Pro players get official Enhanced PSSR support.

Here are the Steam requirements as listed on the store page when I checked. Capcom's September 1 post said updated requirements apply to both the base game and the expansion.

Those numbers describe a floor, not a promise. Capcom's own notes say frame rate may drop when processing load is high, that ray tracing needs a GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or Radeon RX 6800, and that an SSD is recommended. On the PC DRM question, PCGamesN and GamingOnLinux both reported in early September that Denuvo was removed from the game ahead of the expansion. That is press reporting, not something in Capcom's launch post, so verify it yourself if it matters to you.

Customization and Official Pawns

Alongside the expansion, Capcom added new hairstyles and tattoos to the Character Creator. They are available right away for both your Arisen and your Main Pawn. The companion app, Dragon's Dogma 2: Character Creation & Storage, was updated on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, and is now also on Switch 2, so you can design a look before you boot the game.

There is also a new wave of Official Pawns, the pawns made by streamers and creators that you can recruit through the Rift. The first new batch includes three characters from the Capcom Collectibles video series: Toy Leon, Knockoff Ryu, and Real Rudy. Capcom says more are coming.

How We Got Here: The Updates Before Launch

Capcom shipped two large free updates before the expansion, and the changes they made affect how Norgan plays. If you are returning after a long break, you will find these waiting for you.

UpdateWhat it added before Dark Arisen
Title Update 3.1 (June 9 to 10)Reusable Eternal Ferrystone, extra Portcrystals, Oxcart Stopovers, Guardian pawn specialization, cheaper inns, Ferrystones, and Lanterns, loot and quest reward tweaks
Title Update 3.2 (around Sept 1 to 2)Three save slots with Autosave, Interim Save, and Last Inn Rest Save; weapon skill slots from four to six; Dragonsplague changes including Dragonsbaulk Draught; many pawn behavior and vocation tweaks; PC and console graphics options; optimization
Title Update 4.0 (Oct 9)Hard Mode, restart with save data, Orienteer, FSR 3 and DLSS 4.5 on Steam, Enhanced PSSR on PS5 Pro

The Eternal Ferrystone is acquired by talking to Brant during the quest Seat of the Sovran, and if you have already completed the quest it is placed in your inventory. In Title Update 3.2, the combat action changes include you being less likely to flinch repeatedly, pawns being more active in battle, and a new core skill for Mage and Sorcerer called Magick Barrier plus a Trickster core skill called Buoyant Brume. Capcom also tuned the game to run at 60 fps in Performance Mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X, per Producer Oyama in the Q&A.

A Sensible Plan for Your First Weekend

This is my own suggestion, built on Capcom's published information.

  • Update to Title Update 4.0 first. The base game must be updated to use the DLC.
  • Check your level. Aim for the recommended 20 for Lost Rites and 40 for the Forsaken Dominion if you want the intended difficulty curve.
  • Talk to Brant at the Vernworth tavern. That is the official unlock path for both pieces of new content.
  • Rework your vocation build. You have six weapon skill slots and new skills from the expansion. Capcom's director is explicitly excited about that.
  • Try Lost Rites if you want to stay in familiar territory. They are on the Vermund and Battahl map and are lower level than Norgan.
  • Test the new save features on a spare slot. Hard Mode and restart-with-save-data are both new, and you have three slots.
  • PC players: open the Graphics menu. Try FSR 3 Frame Generation or the DLSS multi frame generation options and see what they do on your hardware.

Who Should Buy This

My read, based on what Capcom has said publicly:

  • You own the base game and liked it: the $29.99 expansion looks like a clean add. New region, 12 dungeons, new skills, and a loot loop built for people who want to keep playing.
  • You never started the base game: Dark Arisen at $49.99 bundles the base game and expansion. Check the live store price because the base game has a permanent discount.
  • You want a Switch 2 version: Dark Arisen is the way in. It arrives with the expansion included.
  • You are waiting for reviews: that is a fair choice. I am not quoting review scores here because the official posts do not include them.

Frequently Asked Questions

When did Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen release?

Dark Arisen launched on October 9, 2026. Capcom's launch post appeared on Steam at 07:29 UTC, which is 2:29 AM Central that day. Steam's store data lists the expansion's date as October 8, which likely reflects regional unlock timing.

How much does Dark Arisen cost?

Capcom's press release lists Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, which includes the base game and the expansion, at an MSRP of $49.99. The Dark Arisen Expansion sold separately as DLC is $29.99 MSRP on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The standalone expansion requires the base game.

What platforms is Dark Arisen on?

Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. On Switch 2 the game and expansion come together. On PC the game is on Steam and the Capcom Store. The Steam listing shows Windows only.

Is there a Mac version?

Not that I can find from official sources. The Steam store listing for the base game and the expansion shows Windows only, with no Mac or Linux builds.

What is in Title Update 4.0?

Hard Mode, a feature to restart the game from the beginning using your current save data, the Orienteer pawn specialization, forgotten riftstones giving 90 rift crystals instead of 30, thermal properties on some armor, and a list of bug fixes. PS5 Pro gets Enhanced PSSR, and Steam gets FSR 3 Frame Generation, DLSS 4.5, and multi frame generation.

Do I need to buy the expansion to use Hard Mode?

Capcom describes Title Update 4.0 as a free update for the base game that includes Hard Mode. The expansion is a separate purchase, and Hard Mode is listed under the base game update, not under the DLC.

How many Lost Rites dungeons are there?

Twelve. Capcom says they appear on the base game map throughout Vermund and Battahl, and they hold rare equipment once wielded by past Arisen, guarded by trials set by the Pathfinder.

What level should I be for Norgan and the Lost Rites?

Producer Naoto Oyama recommends level 40 to start the Forsaken Dominion and level 20 to start Lost Rites. Both are reachable early in the main story by speaking to Brant in the Vernworth tavern, and difficulty increases as you progress.

Can I change the look of Norgan gear?

Yes, after completing a side-quest chain in Norgan. It unlocks a feature to change the appearance of weapons and armor obtained in Norgan to that of other gear while keeping their original stats and performance.

Are there new vocations in Dark Arisen?

No. Oyama says there are no brand-new vocations. The expansion adds new skills for each vocation, there are higher levels of existing skills, and weapon skill slots increased from four to six in an earlier update.

What are the official PC requirements?

On Steam, the minimum is Windows 11, an Intel Core i5 8500 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500, 16 GB of RAM, and a GeForce GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 5500 XT with 8 GB of VRAM. The recommended spec is an Intel Core i7-10700 or Ryzen 5 3600X with a GeForce RTX 2070 Super or Radeon RX 6600 XT. An SSD is recommended.

Final Take

Dark Arisen is built for the people who stayed with Dragon's Dogma 2 through its rough launch period and kept asking for more. Capcom is giving them a new region with a loot loop, 12 dungeon challenges on the old map, new vocation skills, Hard Mode, and a clean restart option, while the free Title Update 4.0 improves the base game for everyone. The cleanest way in is to update, level up a little, and talk to Brant. After that, the choice between frozen Norgan and the older Lost Rites is yours.
