The last Summer Sweep-Up batch is live, and it finally closes the pet QoL chapter Jagex teased across earlier Sweep-Up blogs. As of the 16 September 2026 game update, eligible pets follow you into The Gauntlet, Corrupted Gauntlet, and Impetuous Impulses as visible companions. For most other minigames you can skip the bank trip even when the pet has to go invisible, and death no longer yeets your follower into the void for the pets that qualify.
This guide sticks to Jagex's official Summer Sweep-Up Pet Improvements & More news post. No invented minigame exceptions, no fake pet lists, and no guesswork on Tortugan Underwater beyond what the blog already flags as future work.
What changed in the OSRS Summer Sweep-Up pet improvements update?
Jagex framed this week as the final Summer Sweep-Up batch: the remaining pet-related improvements that close out the Sweep-Up blogs. Earlier Sweep-Up drops already shipped miscellaneous, gathering, and combat polish. This one is almost entirely about followers, plus a short list of related tweaks and the usual changelog extras.
The practical player wins are simple:
- Stop banking your pet before every Corrupted Gauntlet run.
- Walk into most other minigames with a follower already out, even if it vanishes visually.
- Keep following pets after death for boss pets and other eligible followers.
- Know exactly which "generic" companions are still excluded.
Do OSRS pets follow you into the Gauntlet now?
Yes. Pets now follow into The Gauntlet, Corrupted Gauntlet, and Impetuous Impulses, and they stay visibly following inside those instances. You do not need to bank them before entry.
That is the headline change for iron Gauntlet grinders and anyone who was tired of the bank booth detour every time a pet dropped mid-session. Jagex specifically called out that these three cracked the technical barrier that stopped full visible followers in many other minigame instances.
What about Impetuous Impulses pets?
Same rule as Gauntlet: if your pet is already following when you enter Impetuous Impulses, it comes with you and remains visible. No special banking step for that minigame under the new rules.
Can you enter other OSRS minigames without banking your pet?
For other minigames except Temple Trekking, yes: you can enter with a following pet without banking it first. Inside those minigames the pet becomes invisible, but you still skip the bank trip.
Jagex's stated reason is technical. The original intent was visible followers across more minigames. Extra wandering NPCs would break some instances, so those areas settled for "enter without banking" rather than full visible companions. Gauntlet and Impetuous Impulses got the full visible treatment. Everything else on the minigame list (Temple Trekking aside) gets the invisible compromise.
When you leave those minigames, the pet returns to visibly following you again. Same restoration happens when you leave Fossil Island's Underwater area.
Why is Temple Trekking still a bank trip?
Temple Trekking is excluded because that minigame already has an NPC following you. You still need to bank your pet before entry there. Do not assume the Sweep-Up blanket covers every activity with a portal.
Do pets work in Fossil Island Underwater without banking?
Yes for Fossil Island's Underwater area: enter without banking a following pet. The pet goes invisible while you are underwater, then becomes visible again when you leave.
Jagex also noted they plan to apply the same treatment to Tortugan Island's Underwater area in a future update. That is not live yet. Do not treat Tortugan Underwater as fixed on September 16.
Dying by drowning in Fossil Island Underwater keeps the pet in a following status for eligible pets, matching the minigame death rule below.
Do OSRS pets respawn after death after the Sweep-Up update?
Eligible pets now respawn with you on death and keep following. That is a real QoL win for dangerous content where a death used to mean re-summoning from the bank or inventory.
The rule applies to pets except the "Other (Generic)" list:
- Dogs
- Cats
- Broav
- Pet fish
- Hellcat
- Pet rock
- Toy cat
- Humphrey Dumphrey
- Spooky chair
- Mayor of Catherby
- Archibald
Die inside a covered minigame (or drown on Fossil Island Underwater) and eligible pets stay in following status rather than dropping out of the system mid-run.
What is the summoned pet rule before entering minigames?
For all of the minigame and underwater pet changes above, your pet must already be in a summoned / following state before you enter. You cannot bring an inventory pet item into the minigame and expect it to appear.
Prep checklist before Gauntlet or any covered activity:
- Drop the pet out so it is following you in the overworld.
- Confirm it is not sitting as an inventory item.
- Enter the instance.
- Expect visibility in Gauntlet / Corrupted Gauntlet / Impetuous Impulses, or invisibility in other covered minigames and Fossil Island Underwater.
- Expect visibility to return when you leave invisible zones.
How do A Ruff Situation dogs interact with these pet improvements?
They mostly do not. Dogs sit on the Other (Generic) exclusion list for the Sweep-Up minigame, underwater, and death-respawn rules. Completing A Ruff Situation on 8 September 2026 unlocked puppy pets and canine companions as their own content drop. That quest is separate from this Sweep-Up pet QoL batch.
Jagex did ship a few canine companion tweaks in the same September 16 news post:
- Fixed a bug where locked puppy locations would not show in the adoption interface if you already owned a dog.
- Dogs can no longer be fed onion sacks, Poison Karambwan, Easter eggs, or Green / Plain / Red / Black / Gold / Rune satchels.
What else shipped with the OSRS pet improvements update?
Extra Summer Sweep-Up tweak
Energy potion drops from Goblins, Banshees, and Crawling Hands were reduced. You still get a useful amount, but those pots should no longer dominate the loot tables or feel overly abundant.
Gathering Efficiencies remaining changes (from 30 September 2026)
If you were waiting on the Gathering Efficiencies poll leftovers, Jagex says the remaining pieces start rolling out from 30 September 2026, including:
- Stackable net traps
- Celestial Signet effect applying to Daeyalt mining
- Using logs from the log basket for deadfall / pitfall traps
- Seeing compost state on a farming path without inspecting
PvM and item QoL worth knowing
- Chambers of Xeric thralls now recolour Jewelled crabs by attack style: Ghost thrall (magic) turns crabs blue, Skeleton thrall (ranged) turns them green, Zombie thrall (melee) turns them red.
- Perdu can return the Arkan blade for 350,000 GP.
- Medallion of the Deep users can wear capes and helms underwater, since those slots are not needed for diving gear.
- Salvage sorting can now give clue boxes to eligible players instead of only clues, fixing the "already have a clue" block when you own clue boxes.
- Guthix Balance potions use the make-x interface.
- Enchanted Lyre Play no longer wrongly requires Hard and Elite Fremennik Diary completion.
- Achievement Diary completion messaging works even if you have not relogged since Tutorial Island.
Z-buffer and graphics cleanup
The post also dumps a long Z-buffer / clipping / flickering fix list across Cerberus, Tormented Demons, Fortis Colosseum, Kephri, Sarachnis, Nightmare idle model, Hueycoatl entrances, Woodcutting Guild dungeon Ents, Wolf Den, POH Combat Ring, Lil' Zik, Thieving stalls, Tree Gnome Village, Port Piscarilius, Lunar Isle, Unkah, Slayer Tower basement, Deepfin Point, Barbarian Outpost, Tarn's Lair, Myth's Guild stairs, Father Urhney's hut, farming watermelons, Ardougne / Slepe walls, and more. Pure visual polish, but welcome if you play with graphics on.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do OSRS pets follow into Corrupted Gauntlet after the Summer Sweep-Up pet improvements?
Yes. Corrupted Gauntlet is explicitly included with The Gauntlet and Impetuous Impulses. Eligible pets that are already following before entry come inside and remain visibly following. You do not need to bank them first, and you cannot rely on an inventory pet item popping out after you zone in.
Which OSRS minigames still require banking your pet in 2026?
Temple Trekking still requires banking because the minigame already uses an NPC follower. Tortugan Island Underwater is also unchanged for now and should still be treated as a bank-first zone until Jagex ships the planned follow-up. Other minigames (outside Temple Trekking) let you enter without banking if a pet is already following, even when that pet goes invisible inside.
Do OSRS pets respawn after death with the September 16 2026 update?
Eligible pets respawn with you and continue following after death. The Other (Generic) list is excluded: Dogs, cats, Broav, Pet fish, Hellcat, Pet rock, Toy cat, Humphrey Dumphrey, Spooky chair, Mayor of Catherby, and Archibald. If your companion is on that list, keep the old death / re-summon habits.
Can inventory pet items enter the Gauntlet or other covered minigames?
No. The official rule is that the pet must already be in a summoned following status before entry. Inventory pet items do not count as already summoned for these minigame and underwater changes.
Are A Ruff Situation dogs included in the Gauntlet pet follower changes?
No. Dogs are on the Other (Generic) exclusion list for the Sweep-Up minigame, underwater, and death-respawn rules. The dogs quest from early September is its own pet content line. The September 16 canine notes are limited to adoption UI visibility for locked puppies and a short banned-food list.
When do the remaining OSRS Gathering Efficiencies changes go live?
Jagex says the remaining Gathering Efficiencies changes start rolling out from 30 September 2026. The news post specifically names stackable net traps, Celestial Signet applying to Daeyalt mining, log-basket logs for deadfall / pitfall traps, and compost state on a farming path without inspecting.
Did the Summer Sweep-Up pet update change anything for Chambers of Xeric?
Yes, separately from pets: thralls now recolour Jewelled crabs by style (blue magic, green ranged, red melee). That is combat readability QoL in the same news post, not a pet mechanic.
Is Fossil Island Underwater the same as Tortugan Island Underwater for pets?
Not yet. Fossil Island Underwater lets following pets enter without banking (invisible while underwater). Tortugan Island Underwater is only flagged as a future application of the same idea.
Final verdict
The September 16 Summer Sweep-Up pet improvements are exactly what long-time pet owners wanted from the final Sweep-Up blog: Gauntlet and Impetuous Impulses get real visible followers, most other minigames drop the pointless bank trip, Fossil Island Underwater stops forcing a deposit, and eligible pets stick around after death. Learn the Other (Generic) exclusions, keep Temple Trekking on your bank-first list, summon before you click the portal, and put 30 September on the calendar for the Gathering Efficiencies leftovers. That is the whole patch in player terms.
