Diablo 4 Season 15 Launch Guide: Hell’s Legacy Is Live, Soul Splinters, Mythics & First-Week Priorities

Season of Hell’s Legacy is live. Patch 3.2.1 is the launch build, the seasonal questline is up, and the prep guides can go quiet. This is the launch-day field manual: what to run in week one, how Soul Splinters and Splinters of Evil actually plug into your loop, which Mythic crafting path to protect, and which quality-of-life changes change the first forty levels.
If you already read our earlier Season 15 prep posts, treat this as the “servers are open” companion. Those articles covered windows and PTR framing. This one assumes you are logging in on September 15, 2026 and need priorities, not speculation.
Launch window and what “live” means today
Blizzard’s anniversary season rolls out from 9:30 a.m. PT on September 15, 2026. Expect the usual staggered realm availability, queue spikes, and the classic “log out and back in if seasonal content looks missing” refresh. Patch 3.2.1 ships with the season. That is the build that carries Deckard Cain’s questline, Soul Splinter gems, Legacy Uniques, shared War Plans, Rebirth, and the Mythic crafting changes that survived PTR feedback.
Your first login checklist:
- Confirm the client finished the 3.2.1 download before you sit in a queue
- Decide Seasonal vs Eternal before you burn a Rebirth
- Empty Eternal characters you plan to Rebirth (gear left on the character is destroyed)
- Link Twitch if you want the Deforestation axe drop window that opens today
Deckard Cain and the Prime Evil echoes
The seasonal story opens with the lost soul of Deckard Cain returning amid rising dead from Pandemonium. Three dark wanderers leave trails of death. Your job is to confront them inside rebuilt nightmares and put the Prime Evils tormenting them to rest.
Completing the seasonal questline awards the three Splinters of Evil by defeating:
- An echo of Diablo beneath Tristram Cathedral
- An echo of Baal at Arreat Summit
- An echo of Mephisto within the Durance of Hate
While you bear a Splinter of Evil you become a dark wanderer yourself. An Iconic Power tied to that Prime Evil periodically erupts in combat (Fire for Diablo, Cold for Baal, Physical for Mephisto), and you also become more vulnerable to that same evil. The fantasy is clear: the power you borrow hunts you back.
Splinters of Evil reputation tracks
You only bear one Prime Evil Splinter of Evil at a time. Reputation progress and War Plans modifiers follow that choice. Each track modifies a pair of endgame activities plus the Tree of Whispers:
- Diablo’s Splinter of Terror → Helltide and Infernal Hordes
- Baal’s Splinter of Destruction → The Undercity and Lair Bosses
- Mephisto’s Splinter of Hatred → The Pit and Nightmare Dungeons
First-week track advice
Pick the track that matches the content you will actually spam while leveling and entering Torment:
- Prefer Diablo if your group lives in Helltide rotations and Infernal Hordes gold/loot loops
- Prefer Baal if you are already routing Undercity tributes and Lair Boss keys
- Prefer Mephisto if Pit pushes and Nightmare Dungeon glyph XP are your week-one plan
Waking Nightmares: three encounter sizes
Waking Nightmares are the season’s memory dungeons, rebuilt with Diablo IV encounters.
- Largest (Capstone-style): multi-level recreations of historic Prime Evil showdowns. You meet them in the seasonal questline, then replay them on Torment. Fixed difficulty like other Capstones, with pinnacle Capstone versions at Torment 10+ for bigger risk and loot. These are also your Splinter swap sources.
- Standard-length dungeon Nightmares: fixed-location dungeons recreating familiar moments (Blizzard cites examples like the Den of Evil fantasy). Treat them like seasonal dungeon homework.
- Open-world flash Nightmares: sudden one-room encounters with past bosses or monster waves (Queen Araneae-style spider fantasy, Flayer packs, and similar nostalgia hits). Grab them when they spawn; they are short power snacks.
Soul Splinter gems (equip up to three)
Separate from the Splinters of Evil reputation items, Soul Splinters are the season’s special jewelry gems. Each is tied to a demon or artifact fantasy and grants a strong boon with a real liability. You can socket up to three across available jewelry slots.
The eight Soul Splinter types Blizzard lists:
- Splinter of Anguish (Andariel)
- Splinter of Sin (Azmodan)
- Splinter of Lies (Belial)
- Splinter of the Black Soulstone
- Splinter of Pain (Duriel)
- Splinter of the Mother (Lilith)
- Splinter of Hellfire (Na-Krul)
- Splinter of Damnation (Skarn)
Shared War Plans and Season 14 carryover
War Plans reputation points now share across alts that match the same partition trio:
- Eternal / Seasonal
- Non-Hardcore / Hardcore
- Normal / Solo Self-Found
Season 14 War Plans progress moves to Eternal as the season flips today, accumulating within matching partitions. Hardcore players need living characters at the flip: dead Season 14 Hardcore characters do not donate War Plans points. Starting in Season 15, Blizzard also documents a living “storage” Hardcore character trick so a dead character’s progress can still bank into Eternal Hardcore through a living peer in the same partition.
Mythic crafting: Upgrade Direct and the Crafted tag
Mythic Uniques still craft three ways:
- Horadric Cube Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic
- Jeweler Rune Crafting → Mythic Uniques
- Blacksmith Forge → Mythic Cache (plus a separate Iconic Mythics-only cache after PTR feedback)
Do not Transfigure a prize candidate into an Unmodifiable state before Upgrade Direct. Unmodifiable items are blocked from that recipe.
PTR also walked back Unique-quality versions of Iconic Mythics after players said it cheapened the chase. Iconic Mythics stay Mythic-only in 3.2.1.
Legacy Uniques worth hunting from day one
Nine legacy Uniques enter with Season 15 and remain available on Seasonal and Eternal afterward. Several can also exist as Unique Charms (marked with an asterisk in Blizzard’s list):
- Leoric’s Crown (Helm)
- Nemesis Bracers (Gloves)*
- Stone of Jordan (Ring)*
- Squirt’s Blouse (Chest; Squirt’s Necklace fantasy folded into a chest)*
- Arioc’s Needle (2H Polearm)* - Barbarian, Druid, Spiritborn
- Henri’s Perquisition (Offhand Focus)* - Sorcerer, Necromancer, Warlock
- In-Geom (1H Sword)* - broad class list including Paladin and Warlock
- The Furnace (2H Mace)* - Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, Warlock
- Messerschmidt’s Reaver (2H Axe) - Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, Warlock
Loot rules that change week one
A handful of 3.2.1 loot changes matter more than any single skill note:
- All Unique items can drop from level 1 in any Difficulty
- Mythic drop rates are up from several Lair Boss and Belial sources, with Initiate Lair Boss Mythic rates matched to Greater Lair Bosses
- Echo of Mephisto gets improved loot quality and a guaranteed Mythic drop
- Legendary drop rates are increased in Torment I through Torment V to reduce early Codex grinding
Rebirth on launch day
Rebirth converts an Eternal character into a Seasonal level 1 while keeping class, name, appearance, and Normal/Hardcore state. Cosmetics saved in an ensemble (transmogs, mounts, pets, portals, headstones) can transfer. Gear does not. Empty the character completely before you confirm Rebirth or the remaining items are destroyed.
Use Rebirth when you care about continuing a named main’s history and hours-played tally. Create a fresh Seasonal character when you want a clean stash psychology and no risk of forgetting a ring in the bag.
Twitch drop: Deforestation axe (Sep 15-29)
Launch-day cosmetic homework:
- Window: September 15, 2026, 11:00 a.m. PT through September 29, 2026, 10:59 a.m. PT
- Requirement: watch any livestream in the Diablo IV category for 2 hours
- Reward: Deforestation Two-Handed Axe cosmetic
First-week priority order
A practical sequence for most Seasonal characters:
- Boot patch 3.2.1, create or Rebirth into Seasonal, claim any Horadric Post deliveries.
- Rush the Cain questline through all three Prime Evil Capstone Nightmares for the Splinters of Evil.
- Lock a reputation track that matches your real farm (Helltide/Hordes, Undercity/Lairs, or Pit/NMD).
- Socket early Soul Splinters carefully; amalgamate duplicates instead of cluttering every jewelry slot.
- Push Torment once your Legendary Aspects and Blessings feel stable. Early Torment I-V Legendary rate buffs are for you.
- Bank War Plans on one main, then spin alts that share the same partition.
- Protect one Upgrade Direct candidate only after you understand the single Crafted-tag limit.
- Farm Echo of Mephisto when you want a guaranteed Mythic injection rather than pure lottery gambling.
- Park two hours of Twitch sometime in the first two weeks for Deforestation.
- Soft side goal: if you normally buy Diablo gold or booking help for Lair Boss / Undercity routes, wait until your Splinter track and War Plans nodes are chosen so you are not paying to farm the wrong modifier set.
What this season is celebrating
Hell’s Legacy is Blizzard’s 30th anniversary centerpiece for Diablo. The questline, Waking Nightmares, Legacy Uniques, and even the Battle Pass Reliquary cosmetics are all pointed at franchise memory. Season Ranks stretch to nine ranks and 125 objectives, with skill points, Paragon, Resplendent Sparks, Mythic caches, and cosmetics such as the Dark Wanderbear pet on the reward ladder. Roughly 15% of Seasonal Objectives still need the Lord of Hatred expansion, including pieces required for Rank VIII completion.
You do not need to clear every nostalgia dungeon on day one. You do need to respect that the season’s power systems (Soul Splinters, Splinters of Evil, Crafted Mythics) all assume you engage with that history content early.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Diablo 4 Season 15 live right now on September 15, 2026?
Yes. Season of Hell’s Legacy rolls out from 9:30 a.m. PT on September 15, 2026 with patch 3.2.1 (Build #73552). If seasonal content does not appear immediately after login, wait for realm rollout or restart the client after the patch finishes.
What are Soul Splinters in Diablo 4 Season of Hell’s Legacy?
Soul Splinters are seasonal jewelry gems tied to demons or artifacts. Each grants a powerful benefit with a drawback. You can equip up to three Soul Splinters in jewelry slots, and you can upgrade matching rarities through Horadric Cube Amalgamation.
How do Splinters of Evil reputation tracks work in Season 15?
After the seasonal questline, you bear one Prime Evil Splinter of Evil at a time. Diablo’s track modifies Helltide and Infernal Hordes, Baal’s modifies Undercity and Lair Bosses, and Mephisto’s modifies The Pit and Nightmare Dungeons. All three also modify the Tree of Whispers. Swap Splinters by earning another from the largest Waking Nightmares.
What is Upgrade Direct Mythic crafting in patch 3.2.1?
Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic in the Horadric Cube converts a specific item into a Mythic while keeping affixes, Tempers, and Masterworking. Those Mythics gain a Crafted tag, and you may equip only one Crafted-tagged item. Jeweler and Blacksmith Mythic crafts do not apply that tag.
Which Legacy Uniques were added for Diablo 4 Season 15?
Season 15 adds nine legacy Uniques, including Stone of Jordan, Messerschmidt’s Reaver, Leoric’s Crown, Nemesis Bracers, Squirt’s Blouse, Arioc’s Needle, Henri’s Perquisition, In-Geom, and The Furnace. They remain in the game on Seasonal and Eternal realms after the season.
Does Echo of Mephisto guarantee a Mythic Unique in Season 15?
Blizzard’s 3.2.1 notes increase Echo of Mephisto’s overall loot quality and include a guaranteed Mythic drop. That makes the encounter a deliberate Mythic injection point compared with pure random world drops.
When is the Deforestation Twitch drop for Diablo 4 Season 15?
Watch any Diablo IV category livestream for two hours between September 15, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. PT and September 29, 2026 at 10:59 a.m. PT to earn the Deforestation Two-Handed Axe cosmetic.
Should I Rebirth or create a new character for Hell’s Legacy?
Rebirth if you want the same Eternal character’s name, looks, and lifetime hours moved to Seasonal level 1 after emptying all gear. Create a fresh Seasonal character if you want zero risk of destroying leftover items and a clean psychological start. Both paths can share War Plans progress when partitions match.
