Blizzard's September 24, 2026 Midnight hotfixes are short and player-facing. The new section on the official Hotfixes: September 24, 2026 page covers one Delve quality-of-life fix and another pass on movement speed reduction in PvP. Developers say they added a few more adjustments to their prior snare changes. That is the whole headline: Oddball Ingredients stop vanishing into pits, and Hunter, Arcane Mage, and Paladin snares get another PvP tune.
This guide sticks to the September 24 block only. The September 23 Unholy Blightfall aging fix and the Windwalker PvE bleed of Celestial Conduit / Flurry Strikes already have their own write-up in our Sept 23 Unholy Blightfall hotfixes guide. We are not re-listing the September 22 class-tuning wall here. If you need the big PvE damage pass, open that prior post. Tonight is about arena and battleground snare math, plus safer Delve farming in Shadow Enclave.
What changed on September 24
Delves: Oddball Ingredient pit safety
In the Shadow Enclave delve variant "Infiltrate and Ameliorate", the Oddball "Ingredient" now teleports to one of several points in the play space if it is dropped into the pit.
That is a pure fail-forward fix. The Ingredient is a carry object. Dropping it into a pit used to mean a reset, a long walk, or a failed objective depending on how the variant scripts the encounter. Teleporting the Ingredient back onto valid floor space keeps the run alive when someone misclicks near a ledge or gets knocked toward the void. If you farm Shadow Enclave for bountiful loot, weekly Delve progress, or companion XP, this change removes one of the most common soft-fails in that variant.
Practical habits that still help:
- Call out who is carrying the Ingredient before the pit rooms.
- Do not park the carrier on the edge while fighting pack pulls.
- If the Ingredient does teleport after a drop, look for the new point quickly instead of assuming it despawned.
PvP: another snare pass
Developers' notes on the September 24 block: "We've added a few more adjustments to our prior changes to movement speed reduction effects." That framing matters. This is not a brand-new snare philosophy. It is a follow-up trim on top of earlier Midnight PvP movement tuning.
Hunter
- Wing Clip now reduces movement speed by 40% in PvP combat.
- Improved Snaring now increases the movement speed reduction of Wing Clip by 10% in PvP combat.
Mage (Arcane)
- Chrono Shift (PvP Talent) now reduces movement speed by 30% in PvP combat (was 50%).
Paladin
- Consecrated Ground now reduces movement speed by 20% in PvP combat (was 50%).
Snare values at a glance
| Class / effect | Old PvP value | New PvP value | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hunter Wing Clip | (prior pass baseline) | 40% MS reduction | PvP combat only |
| Hunter Improved Snaring → Wing Clip | (prior pass) | +10% to Wing Clip | Talented Wing Clip ≈ 50% in PvP |
| Arcane Chrono Shift (PvP talent) | 50% MS | 30% MS | Direct -20 percentage points |
| Paladin Consecrated Ground | 50% MS | 20% MS | Direct -30 percentage points |
Arena and battleground implications
Hunters: sticky, not free
A 40% Wing Clip with a talented path to 50% still matters in arena. It is enough to delay a gap closer, buy a healer a global, or keep someone in Concussive / trap range. It is not enough to pretend Wing Clip alone wins a kite forever. Marksmanship and Survival players should expect shorter "I tagged you, you are stuck" windows and lean harder on traps, binding shot setups, and pet peels. Beast Mastery gets the same Wing Clip numbers; the difference is how often you are in melee range to need the slow versus using it as a chase tool.
In battlegrounds, 40% still helps on flag carriers and node fights, especially when stacked with other team slows. The change hurts most when a Hunter was the only snare on a target and expected Wing Clip to feel like a root.
Arcane Mage: Chrono Shift is less of a glue talent
Cutting Chrono Shift to 30% changes talent evaluation. If you took Chrono Shift specifically because the 50% snare won games, re-check whether another PvP talent now covers more of your losses. Burst windows that depended on a near-root after blink pressure will leak more often. Against melee, you will burn mobility and poly windows earlier. Against other casters, the talent is still a slow; it just no longer feels like a second frost nova.
Double healer comps that used to ignore Arcane sticky pressure for a few seconds now have a cleaner exit. Arcane players should practice calling for external peels instead of assuming Chrono Shift holds the kill target.
Paladins: Consecration is no longer a tar pit
A 20% Consecrated Ground snare is closer to a soft zone than a lockdown. Retribution kill setups that started with Consecration under the target and expected them to stay for Wake / Final Verdict chains will see more escapes. Protection peels that used Consecration to slow a train into the healer lose a big chunk of that drag. Holy Paladins who sat Consecration for incidental kiting get less value from the talent in rated play.
Compensation habits:
- Time blinds, hoj, and blessing peels earlier; do not wait for Consecration to "hold."
- Place Consecration for damage and anti-stealth more than for snare value.
- In battlegrounds, treat Consecration as area denial for damage ticks, not as a reliable flag-carrier glue.
Who benefits from the nerfs
Melee without strong freedom tools gain the most from weaker Chrono Shift and Consecrated Ground. Rogues, Warriors, and Enhancement Shaman trying to leave a mage or paladin zone will notice the difference first. Healers who were glued in Consecration while a Retribution player lined up hammer follow-ups also get more breathing room. On the other side, any team that drafted a Hunter specifically for Wing Clip peels still has a workable tool, especially with Improved Snaring.
Delve farming after the Oddball fix
Shadow Enclave's "Infiltrate and Ameliorate" variant is still a carry-and-protect objective. The pit teleport does not make the Ingredient immortal. It only stops a pit drop from hard-failing the object. That means:
- You can play slightly more aggressive near ledges without mourning a full reset.
- You should still assign a backup carrier if the primary gets stunned or feared.
- Groups farming bountiful tiers can shave time they used to spend recovering Ingredients from void deaths.
How this sits next to September 23
September 23 fixed Unholy Death Knight Blightfall aging damage and stopped Windwalker PvP adjustments to Celestial Conduit and Flurry Strikes from applying in PvE. It also shipped a Valeera talent-lock workaround after faction changes. Full detail and the approximate ST/AoE impact numbers live in our WoW Midnight Hotfixes Sept 23 Unholy Blightfall guide.
September 24 does not revisit those class damage bugs. If you logged on looking for more Unholy numbers or Monk PvE clarification, you already have them from the 23rd. Today's login checklist is:
- Retest Wing Clip and Improved Snaring in a skirmish or arena.
- Retest Chrono Shift if you are Arcane in rated.
- Retest Consecrated Ground snare strength on Paladin.
- Run one Shadow Enclave "Infiltrate and Ameliorate" and intentionally check Ingredient pit behavior so you know the new teleport points.
What we are not covering here
The main hotfix article on Blizzard's site still contains the long September 22 class tuning list and older Midweek sections. Re-pasting that wall here would bury the September 24 news. Use Blizzard's page as the archive; use this post for the new snare pass and Delve fix; use the Sept 23 guide for Blightfall and Windwalker PvE bleed.
Soft note for Midnight accounts
If you are rebuilding a PvP-focused Midnight character after these snare trims, AccountShark's World of Warcraft catalog is the curated path for geared characters already deep into the season. Soft check only when it saves you from gearing a fresh alt just to relearn current arena snares.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the main September 24 Midnight hotfix?
Two player-facing changes: Oddball Ingredient pit teleport safety in Shadow Enclave's "Infiltrate and Ameliorate" Delve variant, and another PvP snare pass for Hunter Wing Clip, Arcane Chrono Shift, and Paladin Consecrated Ground.
How strong is Wing Clip in PvP now?
40% movement speed reduction in PvP. Improved Snaring adds +10% to Wing Clip in PvP, so the talented package lands at 50%.
Did Chrono Shift get nerfed?
Yes. Arcane's Chrono Shift PvP talent now snares for 30% movement speed in PvP, down from 50%.
How weak is Consecrated Ground in PvP after the hotfix?
20% movement speed reduction in PvP, down from 50%. That is a 30 percentage-point cut and the largest relative change on this list.
Does the Delve fix change loot?
No. It only changes what happens when the Oddball Ingredient is dropped into the pit. The object teleports to one of several points in the play space instead of being lost to the void.
Is this the same as the September 23 Unholy hotfix?
No. September 23 fixed Blightfall aging and Windwalker PvE bleed. September 24 is the snare pass plus the Oddball Ingredient teleport. Read the Sept 23 guide for Unholy and Windwalker.
Do these snare changes affect PvE?
The September 24 notes specify PvP combat for Wing Clip, Improved Snaring, Chrono Shift, and Consecrated Ground. Play PvE with your existing expectations unless a later note says otherwise.
Should I change PvP talents tonight?
Arcane players should re-evaluate Chrono Shift now that it is 30%. Paladins should stop treating Consecrated Ground as a primary lockdown and rebuild setups around crowd control and damage. Hunters can keep Wing Clip packages, especially with Improved Snaring, but should not expect untalented Wing Clip alone to hold a target forever.
