SULFUR 1.0 Is Out: Console Launch, New Price, Enchantments, Oil Renames and the Full Changelog Explained

SULFUR is officially done with Early Access. Perfect Random pushed version 1.0 live on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, two years after the roguelite shooter first went on sale on Steam, and the same day it launched on every major console: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.

For veterans, 1.0 is less about new zones and more about finishing the game properly. The story now runs from start to end, the enchantment system is complete, there is finally a quest log, and a long balance pass reshuffles almost every wearable in the game. For new players, it is the cleanest moment yet to jump in, though the Steam price went up today.

Below is everything in the official 1.0 announcement and changelog, sorted into what actually matters for your next run.

QUICK ANSWER · SULFUR 1.0 · Oct 28
• Out now: October 28, 2026 on Steam, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch 2 and Switch.
• Price: $29.99 USD base price, up from $24.99 in Early Access.
• New: Full story from start to finish, completed Enchantments with 5 new combined scrolls, a Quest Log, Muzzle Velocity oils against bullet drop and melee hitstop.
• Not included: Multiplayer (planned for a later update) and brand-new areas.
• Check your build: Many oils were renamed, every wearable was rebalanced and Holy Fire, Light, Ice Beam and Beam scrolls were tuned.

SULFUR 1.0 Release Date, Platforms and Price

SULFUR 1.0 released on October 28, 2026 on all seven platforms at once:

PlatformStatus on Oct 28
PC (Steam)Leaves Early Access, version 1.0
PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4Console launch
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox OneConsole launch
Nintendo Switch 2 and SwitchConsole launch

Perfect Random says the Early Access version sold more than 500,000 copies, which is a big number for a small studio and a good sign that post-launch support is not going anywhere.

The price went up today

Leaving Early Access came with a price rise. The base price on Steam moved from $24.99 to $29.99, with regional prices adjusted in proportion. If you were waiting for a sale, the cheaper Early Access price is gone. If you already own it, you paid less than everyone buying from today onward, and the developer's own post jokes that this should make Early Access players feel "really smart and cool and good-looking."

Is There Multiplayer in SULFUR 1.0?

No. This is the most common question, and the studio answered it directly: multiplayer is not part of 1.0, and there is no surprise multiplayer shadow drop.

The good news is that co-op is not off the table. Perfect Random says multiplayer is something it plans to work on as a future post-release update. It has not given a window, so treat it as a "later" feature, not a "next month" one.

Beyond multiplayer, the studio plans to keep shipping free updates with more firearms and other additions, and says it would like to explore DLC if the community stays active through 2027 and beyond. Nothing is announced yet.

What Is New in SULFUR 1.0

Here are the headline changes the studio called out for returning players.

The full story, start to finish

During Early Access you could play through the areas but not finish the game. 1.0 adds the complete progression from beginning to end. Be aware of one caveat from the studio itself: there are no brand-new areas in 1.0. If you have already seen every biome, the new content is the ending and the systems around it, not fresh maps. More areas are teased with a "stay tuned."

The Enchantments system is complete

Enchantment scrolls can be combined, and 1.0 fills in the whole combination matrix with five new combined enchantments:

  • Scroll of Snowman Head
  • Scroll of Water Bomb
  • Scroll of Mud Ball
  • Scroll of Evil Seed
  • Scroll of Teslacold (the patch notes simply say "don't ask")
The changelog also reworks a lot of the existing scrolls, which we cover in the balance section below.

A real quest log

There is now a digital Quest Log, shown on the right-hand panel of your normal inventory. If you have been keeping a notepad next to your keyboard or controller, you can retire it.

Muzzle Velocity oils to beat bullet drop

1.0 adds a new weapon attribute called Muzzle Velocity. Higher Muzzle Velocity counters bullet drop and also makes flamethrowers reach further. The stat appears on a batch of new oils:

  • Anabolic Oil, Flake Oil, Freak Oil
  • Gust Oil, Muzzle Oil, Optimum Oil
  • Psycho Oil, Spider Oil, Soldier Oil
Alongside this, the old "Bullet Drop" stat has been renamed to "Bullet weight". That rename matters when you are reading item tooltips, since the number now describes how heavy the round is rather than how far it falls.

Melee hitstop

Every melee weapon now has a slight hitstop, a short freeze on impact. It makes hits feel heavier, and the studio says it also stops players from cheesing fights with the knockback added in an earlier patch. Melee also no longer cuts through level geometry.

Oil Renames: A Cheat Sheet

A lot of oils changed names in 1.0. If your favorite build suddenly looks like it is missing a part, check this list before panicking:

Old nameNew name in 1.0
Assassin Dart OilChrono Oil
Extra Powder OilTemporal Oil
Kinetic OilGrander Scheme Oil
Dart OilPhase Dart Oil
Tight Barrel OilSpace Rip Oil
Arrow OilTime Arrow Oil
Bolt OilTime Bolt Oil

Big Oil also picked up a new bonus: +25% extra size on top of its other stats, and it now sorts correctly with the other black oils.

Weapon Balance and Fixes

The weapon section is long, but these are the changes most likely to affect your loadout:

  • Chimera Rapid damage multiplier drops to 1 (from 1.1).
  • Deathstar PG damage multiplier rises to 1.2 (from 1).
  • Beck 8 damage multiplier rises to 1.1 (from 1.0), and its laser sight moved so it no longer clashes with other attachments.
  • Flock kick in 50BMG is now 22 (was 17).
  • Wyatt Pulsar now fires 18 bullets on full charge (was 17), uses ammo when fired without charging, and its sound scales with charge.
  • All energy weapons got a small amount of recoil. You will only notice it if you stack recoil-heavy oils on them.
  • Gun sway in ADS is reduced, and you can no longer ADS while equipping a weapon.
  • Gyro aim now defaults to ADS-only on every platform, which is worth checking in settings on Switch and PlayStation.

Weapon XP changes

Weapon XP got a rework that is easy to miss:

  • XP is now split equally between all eligible weapons used in a kill.
  • Max rank weapons are excluded from XP sharing, so they no longer soak up XP that could level your other guns.
  • Kills with only melee or throwables give XP to your last selected eligible gun.
  • Lock of Magus is no longer consumed if there is nowhere for the XP to go.
There is also a long list of reload and animation fixes: Hell n' Back and Star & Witness no longer get stuck unable to reload, chiseled guns no longer jam mid-reload, the Mowlock only uses ammo for missing rounds, and the Rokua and Bronco can no longer fire before they are cocked.

Enchantment Balance

The existing scrolls saw some real tuning, mostly reining in the strongest beam and light builds:

  • Scroll of Holy Fire penetration multiplier drops to 20% (from 50%), and its attack speed penalty is now 25% (from 50%).
  • Scroll of Light attack speed penalty is now 25% (from 50%).
  • Both Holy Fire and Light no longer apply penetration damage to the first enemy hit, which the studio calls a bug fix.
  • Scroll of Ice Beam damage is lowered to -95% (from -90%), and a bug that applied cold ten times is fixed.
  • Scroll of Beam spread is now 100% (from 200%).
  • Scroll of Holy Purge now deals 25% of weapon damage (from 10%), its self-damage is Light damage, and it is "slightly less annoying to use."
  • Scroll of Cryo Snakes now also procs on unit hit, can spawn in the church and can target every boss.
  • Scroll of Least Resistance finds a new target after piercing or bouncing.
  • Scroll of Voodoo now spreads damage based on the bullet count of linked targets.
Shotgun builds also changed. Enchantment and elemental damage from 12Ga pellets is now correctly divided across the pellets, though on-hit chances are still not divided. Size is no longer divided by pellet count.

Perfect Random also says that from now on it will be more careful with major balance changes that could break builds players have worked out. That is a welcome promise after two years of Early Access swings.

The Big Wearables Rebalance

Every wearable in the game has been rebalanced, and some were reworked entirely. The goal, in the studio's words, was to give each item a stronger identity, often with a trade-off. A helmet that boosts weapon damage, for example, should cost you some physical defense.

Most items got buffs to close the gap between early and late game. A lot of items also moved rarity tiers. A few examples worth knowing:

  • Yellow Hoodie moves down to Common, but armor jumps from 2 to 8 and durability from 100 to 500. A strong early pick-up now.
  • Straight Jacket moves to Uncommon, armor goes from 2 to 7, and movement speed flips from -25% to +75%.
  • Badass Vest becomes Uncommon with armor 14 and +50% melee damage, a natural fit with the new hitstop.
  • Hedgehog Suit goes to Uncommon with armor 13, durability 800 and +100% Thorns.
  • SULFUR Hoodie gets armor 12, +5% movement speed and +25% bonus XP.
  • Turtle Shell is now Legendary with armor 35, a lighter -20% speed penalty and +50% melee damage.
  • Golden Slipper jumps from Common to Legendary and now gives 25% resistance to fire, electricity, frost and poison.
  • Crown is Legendary with Charisma +50, +15% bonus XP and +1 Luck.
  • Sulfur Cap becomes Legendary with an extra jump and +10% movement speed.
Base prices and drop rates were adjusted to match, so expect the shop and loot value of your stash to shift.

Endless Mode, Enemies and Items

Endless mode

  • Uncollected XP orbs are cleared at the end of a stage instead of delaying the transition.
  • Cookbooks other than the Desert one can now drop.
  • Remaining enemies are outlined if nothing dies for 30 seconds, and stuck enemies return to their spawn point.
  • The first stage transition no longer sends you back to your starting arena, and workbench reward cards now show name, icon and description.

Enemies

  • Enemies now break plank barricades instead of walking through them.
  • Every boss that lacked damage gates now has them, which slows down extreme burst kills.
  • The Cultist Rifleman hits for 15 (was 10), to offset the damage grace period added for players earlier.
  • Ghost Apparition is weaker: fewer balls, 120 health (was 250), 25 damage (was 50). Ghost Poltergeist throws now hit for 30 (was 40).
  • Goblin Barrelboy drops to 650 health (was 800) and has a 20% better loot roll.
  • Corrupted enemies now give more XP than their normal versions, except the Lurk.
  • The last boss spawns more targets when entering a certain phase.

Items and food

  • Stores for Ralphie, Qiosk, Grossberg and Ratqueen were all rebalanced.
  • New consumable: Wonton Soup.
  • Ramen foods now give the intended 50% Fire Resistance (the old value was 0.5%).
  • A sliced pizza gives 6 slices (up from 5). Small win, but a real one.
  • Julmust now gives extra luck for three minutes, and duplicate recipes with identical ingredients were cleaned up.

Levels

There is a big optimization pass across every area, better fencing to stop players skipping boss fights, 20% fewer enemies in Hedgemaze and 30% fewer in the Dungeon, and the Grub Grub mini boss arena no longer lets you hide on ledges. Doors also close again a few seconds after you open them.

Quality of Life and Accessibility

  • Traditional Chinese language support.
  • Gamepad support for consumables in the hotbar.
  • A new stash on the desert and fortress side of the church, next to the weapon racks.
  • Coins are easier to pick up while moving.
  • A redesigned, more readable health bar.
  • Turning off the scope vignette now also removes the blur.
  • Fixed lag when more than one gamepad is connected.

SULFUR PC Requirements

SULFUR stays light on hardware. The Steam listing shows:

  • Minimum: Windows 10 64-bit, 2.4GHz dual-core CPU, 8GB RAM, GeForce GTX 970 or equivalent, DirectX 9.0, 2GB storage.
  • Recommended: Windows 10 64-bit, 2.4GHz quad-core CPU, 16GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1080 or equivalent, DirectX 11, 4GB storage.

Should You Play SULFUR 1.0?

If you bounced off during Early Access because there was no ending, now is the time to go back. The full progression is in, the quest log solves the "what was I doing" problem, and the wearables pass makes early runs feel less punishing.

If you are a long-time player who has seen every area, 1.0 is more of a reason to rebuild than to explore. Check your oils against the rename list, look at your shotgun and beam enchantments, and re-evaluate your armor, since a lot of familiar pieces now sit in different rarity tiers with very different stats.

And if you were holding out for co-op, keep waiting. It is planned, but it is not here yet.
