Saros just got its biggest post-launch drop yet. On Monday, October 19, 2026, Housemarque shipped the free Zenith update to every PlayStation 5 owner of the game. Design lead Abebe Tinari walked through the goals on the PlayStation Blog: more replayability for players who already finished Carcosa, and better on-ramps so newcomers can still face the full bullet ballet instead of a watered-down version of it.
Independent write-ups from ComicBook, MP1st, GameRant, and TwistedVoxel republish the same Housemarque changelog under patch 02.000.000 (some PS5 consoles also pulled a 2.000.001 companion download). Official Housemarque Support lists Patch 02.000.000 in its Patch Notes index. This guide sticks to those sources. Where Housemarque or Sony did not publish a number, I say so.
What Zenith Actually Adds
Zenith is not a paid expansion. Tinari says it is available to all Saros owners for no additional charge. The headline systems are:
- Eclipse Layers, the New Game+ path
- Overlord Rush, a scored boss-rush training mode with leaderboards
- 20 new Carcosan Modifiers (10 Protection, 10 Trial) plus Modifier Mastery
- Crown and golden armor cosmetics tied to Trial loadouts
- Visions of a King, collectible murals and etched messages
- Accessibility and control options (Slow Game Speed, Auto-fire, Motion Sensor Aiming, High Contrast Display)
- Six new trophies, Photo Mode extras, and a batch of Artifact / Modifier balance changes
Accessibility Without Softening the Ballet
Housemarque did not cut projectile density to make Saros friendlier. Tinari is explicit about that. The studio still wants the satisfaction of reading telegraphs and answering with jump, dash, shield, or parry. Zenith instead adds timing and input helpers that leave the attack patterns alone.
Slow Game Speed
Slow Game Speed lowers the overall pace of the game (player, hostiles, projectiles, and the rest) so you have more time to read telegraphs and choose a response. You control how much it slows. You can also choose whether it engages automatically in combat or whether you toggle it manually when a fight spikes. Hostile attack designs stay the same. You just get more decision time.
Weapon Auto-fire
Auto-fire (called Weapon Auto-fire in the patch notes) makes your Main Weapon and/or Power Weapon fire automatically while you are aiming at a hostile. Tinari's pitch is practical: holding a trigger for long fights is hard for some players, and dropping that constant input frees brain cycles for dash timing. Perfect reloads are still manual. The setting is meant to remove an accessibility barrier, not to delete skill expression around reload timing.
Motion Sensor Aiming and Remapping
Zenith adds Motion Sensor Aiming, so DualSense motion can aim and control the camera. Combined with the game's existing button remapping and the new Auto-fire / Slow Game Speed options, players have a much wider control surface than at launch.
High Contrast Display
Patch notes also list High Contrast Display: Arjun and hostiles can be highlighted with a vivid solid color fill, a colored outline, or both. That is aimed squarely at readability in dense projectile storms, not at changing damage numbers.
If you already clear Carcosa on base settings, you can leave all of this off. If you bounced off the game's pace or visibility, Zenith is Housemarque's answer without gutting the spectacle.
Carcosan Modifiers Get a Big Expansion
Carcosan Modifiers were already Saros's dial for custom difficulty. Protection Modifiers make runs more forgiving. Trial Modifiers raise the challenge. Zenith adds 20 new ones: 10 Protections and 10 Trials. Per the patch notes, half of that set is available on the initial playthrough, and half unlocks inside Eclipse Layers.
Tinari highlights two examples:
- Corruption Melee Enhancement (Protection): Corruption still builds on your armor and eats max Integrity when certain projectiles hit you, but connecting a melee strike can consume built-up Corruption as bonus damage for a big hit. The risk stays. The answer is to close distance instead of only fearing the meter.
- Hostile Regeneration (Trial): larger hostiles can be stunned with weapon damage, then regenerate quickly. Only a melee finish actually ends them, so you have to commit into melee under fire.
Balance tweaks in the same patch adjust costs for Protection: Second Chance Overlord, Protection: Overlord Restoration, and Trial: Alpha Hostile Enhancement, plus damage values on Protection: Damage Enhancement, Protection: Corruption Reduction, and Trial: Damage Degradation. Tinari's Blog post does not list the new numeric values. Neither do the secondary patch note roundups. Check the in-game Modifier panel after you update.
Eclipse Layers: New Game+ on Your Terms
Eclipse Layers is Zenith's New Game+ mode. After you clear Saros, new nodes appear on the Armor Matrix back at Passage. Those nodes unlock the gate to the next Eclipse Layer, described as a more intense version of the game with altered rules.
When you move to the next Layer, your first job is to select a loadout of Carcosan Modifiers. A Modifier threshold must be met before the run can start. That threshold is filled with Trial Modifiers. Which Trials you take is your choice. Tinari says there are 25 different Trials to pick from (that is the full Trial pool available for loadout planning, not only the 10 new Zenith Trials), which leaves room to customize and to invent deadly synergies on purpose.
Each deeper Layer asks for more Trials. The patch notes phrase it as: with each Layer, more Trial Modifiers are required to start a run. Exact thresholds per Layer are not listed in the public notes, so expect the game UI to show the requirement when you open the Layer gate.
Crown, Golden Armor, and Visions of a King
From Eclipse Layer 2 onward, Arjun wears a Crown and his armor glows golden. The Crown is a flex and a progression hook. The more Trials you take and the higher your Modifier Balance climbs, the bigger and more splendid the Crown becomes. Tinari invites Photo Mode shots of peak Crown looks.
The Crown also gates a new collectible track. Visions are murals and messages etched in stone by an ancient king (patch notes call the figure a Yellow King of old). Tinari says 12 Visions wait across Carcosa. Higher Crown levels are required to perceive additional story texts on those finds. Moving into later Eclipse Layers is what lets you perceive truths that were previously hidden, per the patch feature blurb for Visions of a King.
If you care about lore, Eclipse Layers are not just a harder remix. They are the path to the new story etchings.
Overlord Rush: Boss Practice With a Scoreboard
Overlord Rush is Zenith's boss-rush mode. You open it from the Primary Unit in Passage. It drops you into a training simulation where you race to clear Overlords from the campaign and post scores to an integrated leaderboard. Internet connection and a PlayStation account are required for the competitive side.
Sets break the mode into snackable and marathon options:
- Incursion Set: three Overlords, completable in about 10 minutes
- Ascension Set: three Overlords, also about 10 minutes
- Totality Set: all eight Overlords from around Carcosa in one continuous gauntlet
If you are grinding high-skill PS5 shooter clears and want a save that already knows the Overlord patterns, a strong Saros clear is the natural handoff into Rush practice.
Photo Mode, Artifacts, and the Six New Trophies
Zenith is not only systems. Photo Mode gains:
- Adjustable facial expression for Arjun
- A toggle for Power Weapon visuals on Arjun's body
- New Artifact Corruption Effects
- Locked yellow containers can now drop higher-tier Artifacts
- Max Artifact tier increased, with adjusted drop conditions by tier
- Growth Attributes from Artifacts adjusted
Six new trophies were added. They unlock through Overlord Rush, Eclipse Layers, and some of the new Carcosan Modifiers. Housemarque has not published the individual trophy names or grades in the materials cited here, so check the in-game trophy list after the update installs if you are hunting platinum extensions.
Who Should Jump In First
Different players will hit different systems first:
- New or returning players struggling with pace or readability: turn on Slow Game Speed, High Contrast, and Auto-fire before you touch Trials.
- Clearers who want more campaign: open Eclipse Layers, build a Trial loadout you can live with, and chase Crown growth plus the 12 Visions.
- Boss students and score chasers: live in Overlord Rush Sets, start with Incursion or Ascension, then graduate to Totality.
- Build experimenters: farm Modifier Mastery across Protections and Trials on both the base campaign half and the Eclipse-locked half.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Saros Zenith update free?
Yes. Abebe Tinari's PlayStation Blog post says Zenith is available to all Saros owners for no additional charge starting October 19, 2026.
What platform is Saros Zenith on?
Saros is a PlayStation 5 title. Coverage of Zenith treats it as a PS5 update. TwistedVoxel describes Saros as a PS5 exclusive that launched April 30, 2026. Zenith itself is the free patch for that PS5 game.
What is the Saros Zenith patch number?
Housemarque Support lists Patch 02.000.000. ComicBook and other roundups title the Zenith changelog as update 2.000.000. MP1st reports some PS5 owners seeing both 2.000 and 2.000.001 downloads for the content drop.
What is Eclipse Layers in Saros?
Eclipse Layers is Zenith's New Game+ mode. After you clear the campaign, Armor Matrix nodes at Passage unlock each Layer. You must meet a Trial Modifier threshold before a Layer run starts, and deeper Layers require more Trials. You choose which Trials fill that requirement.
How does the Crown work in Saros Zenith?
From Eclipse Layer 2, Arjun wears a Crown and golden glowing armor. Crown splendor grows as your Carcosan Modifier Balance rises with more difficult Trials. Higher Crown levels also let you perceive additional story text on Vision collectibles.
How many Visions are in Saros Zenith?
Tinari's Blog post says 12 Visions are waiting across Carcosa. They take the form of murals and etched messages from an ancient king.
What is Overlord Rush?
Overlord Rush is a training simulation accessed from the Primary Unit in Passage. You clear Overlords for score on an integrated leaderboard. Incursion and Ascension Sets each feature three Overlords and can be finished in about 10 minutes. Totality lines up all eight Overlords. Leaderboards can be filtered by Main Weapon. Online play requires internet and a PlayStation account.
What accessibility options does Zenith add?
Slow Game Speed, Weapon Auto-fire (Main and/or Power Weapon while aiming at a hostile), Motion Sensor Aiming on DualSense, and High Contrast Display highlighting for Arjun and hostiles. Existing button remapping remains available.
How many new Carcosan Modifiers are in Zenith?
Twenty: ten Protections and ten Trials. Half are available on the initial playthrough. Half unlock in Eclipse Layers. Modifier Mastery tracks progress toward mastering equipped Modifiers.
How many new trophies does Saros Zenith add?
Six. They are tied to Overlord Rush, Eclipse Layers, and some of the new Carcosan Modifiers. Individual trophy names were not listed in the Blog post or the patch note roundups used for this guide.
Does Auto-fire handle reloads too?
No. Tinari says Auto-fire does not make reloading automatic. Perfect reloads still need a timed button press.
Is Zenith a paid DLC?
No. It is a free content update for existing owners. There is no separate purchase called out in Sony's or Housemarque's materials for Zenith.
Final Take
Zenith is Housemarque doing two jobs at once. For veterans, Eclipse Layers, Crown flexing, Visions, Modifier Mastery, and Overlord Rush leaderboards extend the life of a campaign clear. For newcomers, Slow Game Speed, Auto-fire, Motion Sensor Aiming, and High Contrast Display invite more players into the same projectile storms instead of sanding those storms down.
If you already own Saros on PS5, download 02.000.000 today, pick the lane that matches how you play, and let the Armor Matrix or the Primary Unit open the new toys. We will update this guide if Housemarque publishes fuller trophy lists, exact Layer thresholds, or scoring details that are not in today's notes.
