RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0.1 Patch Notes: Save Fixes, Character Catch-Up and New Ranged Specials
Quick Answer · Dragonwilds 1.0.1 · Eye on Ashenfall · Oct 14
• Live: Jagex posted the 1.0.1 notes on Steam at 5:03 AM CT on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, along with a matching post on the official Dragonwilds site.
• Saves: a range of fixes for disappearing world saves, plus a catch-up mechanic that lets corrupted characters jump back in with aggregated stats and Tier 4 gear. Jagex says a very small number of players may still be hit by other save issues.
• Combat: new Death From Above jump attack perk, Ammo Recovery and Greater Ammo Recovery, a special attack for each bow type (Rapid Fire, Power Shot, Heavy Bolt) and the Low Blow perk that applies Hamstrung.
• Quality of life: inventory goes from 32 to 40 slots, separate Ring and Amulet slots, better sorting, a Completed Quests tab, the Ultra Compost Bin and Large Compost Bucket.
• Balance: Rune Arrows and Bolts now beat Adamant (4.9x vs 4.2x), the Amulet of Glory is toned down, enemy aggro range is shorter and respawn timers are longer.
• Fixes: 93 entries in the Additional Bug Fixes list alone, including dedicated servers, PS5, Xbox, Switch 2, Epic Games Store and Jagex Launcher issues, plus Scorned Wilderness raid skips.
• Next: Luminance in December, then the Blood Crystal Saga in 2027, according to Jagex's RuneFest roadmap.

Jagex shipped RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0.1, titled Eye on Ashenfall, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. The patch notes went up on Steam at 5:03 AM CT, with a matching post on the official Dragonwilds site. It is the first point release since 1.0 launched on September 15, after a run of 1.0.0.x hotfixes, and Jagex put save problems right at the top: "The big headline for this one is a range of fixes targeting the disappearing world saves we've seen reported."

There is a lot more in the notes than save fixes. You get a new jump attack, a proper identity for each bow type, eight more inventory slots, separate ring and amulet slots, a Rune ammo buff, and a 93-entry bug fix list, from dedicated server bugs to a Rune Spade hanging upside down on the weapons rack. This guide covers all of it in plain terms: what changed, who it helps, and what to do if your world or character was one of the ones that broke.

Everything below comes from Jagex's 1.0.1 notes and its earlier Steam patch posts, unless I say otherwise. Where Jagex did not publish a number or detail, I say so instead of filling it in. If you are new to the game or came over on console, our Dragonwilds 1.0 console launch guide covers platforms, pricing and the Scorned Wilderness launch content.

How we got here: a month of save problems

You have to look at the last four weeks to understand why 1.0.1 opens the way it does. Since 1.0, save trouble came in two forms: world saves that went missing or invisible in the world list, and character saves that got corrupted and could not join worlds. Jagex worked on it one patch at a time.

Date (CT)PatchWhat Jagex said about saves
Sept 181.0.0.4Fix for world saves corrupting when exiting a session. Still investigating worlds that went missing or invisible in the world list.
Sept 23 (notes)1.0.0.5Investigating world and character save corruption. Edit Appearance button removed as the most common cause. Some restored worlds came back reset to Normal settings.
Sept 291.0.0.6Stopped players quitting Edit Appearance before the character save finished. Some corrupted world saves became visible again, but Jagex said it was not a full fix.
Oct 81.0.0.8Fixed one cause of world saves disappearing. Said previously missing worlds would stay hidden until 1.0.1.
Oct 141.0.1Range of fixes for disappearing world saves, plus a catch-up mechanic for corrupted characters with aggregated stats and Tier 4 gear.

The October 8 note made a specific promise for this patch: "World saves that have disappeared should hopefully be restored," and "Characters that have been corrupted are once again able to join worlds, and have been given items and skill levels in compensation for the loss of progress." The 1.0.1 notes are where that promise gets delivered.

What 1.0.1 actually does for broken saves

Jagex lists two save fixes at the top of the notes.

Disappearing world saves

1.0.1 includes "a range of fixes targeting the disappearing world saves we've seen reported." Jagex does not say what caused each case or how many worlds are coming back. The October 8 patch had already fixed one cause going forward, and said worlds that disappeared before then would stay hidden until 1.0.1. So if your world vanished in late September or early October, this is the patch that should bring it back.

The corrupted character catch-up

For corrupted characters, Jagex added "a catch-up mechanic for corrupted character saves that will let you drop in with aggregated stats and Tier 4 gear to get you back in the fight."

Two caveats, based on what Jagex wrote:

  • Jagex does not explain what "aggregated stats" means in detail. The October 8 note talked about compensation in "items and skill levels," so expect your skills to be set to some level rather than restored exactly. Do not expect a perfect copy of the character you lost.
  • Tier 4 gear is a fixed compensation tier. If your character was already past Tier 4 when the save broke, you will be behind where you were. If you were earlier in the game, you may come back ahead.

Jagex's own warning

The notes are honest that this may not cover everyone: "we're aware there may still be the occasional player affected by other, extraneous instances of save issues that we're still collecting data on. We're talking about very, very small numbers of affected players, but it matters all the same." Jagex has not given a date for a follow-up.

If your save was hit: what to do now

Here is a practical order of steps, built from what Jagex said across the 1.0.0.x notes and 1.0.1.

  • Update first. Make sure you are on 1.0.1 before you open your world list. On console, check for the update on the platform store. Jagex did not publish a per-platform rollout time for 1.0.1. After 1.0.0.4, for example, Switch 2 and the Jagex Launcher could not crossplay until the patch was processed on those platforms, so if a friend cannot join you, check that you are both on the same version.
  • Check your Normal world list, not just Custom or Creative. Jagex warned in the 1.0.0.5 notes that restoring some saves "meant that the world has been reset to default settings," so Custom or Creative worlds could come back as Normal worlds. If your world seems missing, look there.
  • Load the corrupted character once. If a character could not join worlds before, try it on 1.0.1 to see whether the catch-up applied. Note your skill levels and gear before you jump into anything risky.
  • Restart your dedicated server. For 1.0.0.8, Jagex said dedicated servers "will need to be restarted to apply the hotfix." The 1.0.1 notes do not repeat that, but restarting after a big patch costs you nothing. That same note mentioned SteamCMD rate limiting on dedicated server updates through Shockbyte, so a server that has not updated yet may just be waiting in line.
  • Report anything still broken. Jagex has pointed players to the Bug Reports channel in the official Dragonwilds Discord for bugs. Since Jagex says it is "still collecting data," your report helps.

Back up your saves on PC

Until Jagex says the save issues are fully fixed, keep your own backup. The Dragonwilds Wiki lists the default PC save folder as `C:\Users\your username\AppData\Local\RSDragonwilds\Saved` and says it holds your settings and character data, which you can copy elsewhere as a backup. Close the game first, copy the whole Saved folder somewhere safe, and do it again after any long session you would hate to lose. The wiki also notes that Cloud Save was added back in Early Access patch 0.7.3. A local copy is still useful protection if cloud data ever syncs a broken file.

Console players do not get a folder to copy, and Jagex has not published console backup steps in these notes. On console, your safety net is your platform's own cloud save feature, if it has one, plus reporting problems to Jagex.

New combat: Death From Above and a real ranged kit

The jump attack

The headline combat addition is the Jump Attack, which Jagex introduces with "It does exactly what you think it does." You unlock it through the Skill Tree perk "Death From Above!"

The trigger is height. When you are slightly above the highest point a double jump can reach, attacking slams you down onto enemies below. In practice, a plain double jump on flat ground is not enough. Jump off a ledge, a wall, or your own build, or use Windstep, which Jagex confirms counts. Damage scales with your equipped weapon, so Jagex's advice is to hold "something hefty before you leap."

Ranged gets its own identity

Ranged gets the bigger update. The three bow subclasses now each have a special attack, ammo can be recovered, and a new perk rewards aiming low.

Weapon or perkNameWhat it does (Jagex wording, summarized)
ShortbowRapid FireHop backwards and fire three arrows in quick succession. You can switch targets mid-volley to spread damage.
LongbowPower ShotTake a knee and draw at full strength for a staggering, very powerful shot at long range.
CrossbowHeavy BoltRack a bolt and fire after a short charge. Applies Enchanted effects on hit.
Ranged perkAmmo RecoveryA chance to recover arrows from the bodies of slain enemies.
Ranged perkGreater Ammo RecoveryThe stronger version, unlocked later in the Skill Tree. Jagex did not publish the odds for either tier.
Skill perkLow BlowRanged hits to the legs or lower third of an enemy apply Hamstrung, a short movement speed slow. Tiny and Colossal enemies are immune.
Skill Tree perkDeath From Above!Attack while you are a bit higher than a double jump can reach to slam down on enemies. Damage scales with your weapon, and Windstep counts.

A few practical takeaways:

  • Ammo Recovery means fewer trips back to the fletching bench on long sessions. Jagex did not publish a recovery chance for either tier, so treat it as a bonus, not something to plan around.
  • Low Blow gives Ranged real kiting tools. Leg hits slow most enemies, which buys time to reposition or line up a Power Shot. Do not count on it against Tiny or Colossal enemies, since those are immune.
  • Heavy Bolt applies Enchanted effects on hit, so your enchanted bolts matter more on a Crossbow special attack. Jagex also fixed a bug where some enemies ignored the Enchanted Iron Bolt effect.

Rune ammo finally beats Adamant

One balance line fixes the ammo ladder: Rune Arrows and Bolts now do more damage than Adamant, 4.9x versus 4.2x. If you skipped crafting Rune ammo because it did not beat Adamant, you can stop skipping it now.

Inventory, gear slots and quality of life

More space and new slots

  • Inventory goes from 32 to 40 slots.
  • Separate Ring and Amulet slots. Jagex thanks community members Thurnax, NeganTWD and Cloud_N0ne, among others, for suggesting this.
  • Sorting improvements. Weight sorts by total stack weight, heaviest first. Type sorts by item category, alphabetically. Latest puts your most recently picked up items first.

Gear and skilling changes

  • Amulet of Glory nerf. Jagex says it was "providing additional bonuses above what was initially intended" and is "tapping those numbers back down." No exact before and after values are given.
  • Ultra Compost Bin joins the lineup "because 'Super' just wasn't cutting it anymore."
  • Large Compost Bucket with a bigger capacity. Jagex's note to players: "Now stop asking."
  • Overdrive can now be cast on the Advanced Spinning Wheel.
  • Fishing Cape now correctly shows its Skillcape perk, a small chance to catch a fish instantly.
  • Humidify now hits the same number of Yew plots as other farming plots.
  • Artisan and Construction Capes now trigger their effects on repairing and building.
  • Divine Rock cooldown corrected to 1800 seconds (it was wrongly set to 1500).

Interface and controls

  • A Completed Quests tab with a short summary of how each quest ended.
  • A toggle for the Visceral Attack Camera change.
  • The map opens correctly while mounted.
  • Some keybinds can no longer be rebound because they could soft lock you. That covers Remove Spell, Cancel Building, Quick Interact, Crafting Tab Left and Right, and the quest dialogue Continue, Cancel and Select Answer 1 to 4 bindings.

World changes: calmer aggro and slower respawns

Two changes make roaming Ashenfall feel different:

  • Shorter aggro range for enemies across the game. Jagex wants to stop you dragging "a bit of a follow-train like a Fally Drop Party."
  • Longer enemy respawn timers, so cleared areas stay clear for longer.
Together they make gathering runs and exploring calmer, especially solo. Jagex also did a polish pass so Mining nodes all sit above ground and can be mined, and it made goblin barks sound less like they have just spotted you.

Scorned Wilderness raid and boss fixes

The Scorned Wilderness raid, the 1.0 finale, got several fixes:

  • Obstacles and enemies now respawn on reset for your next run.
  • Ores no longer respawn instantly when you teleport inside the raid. Jagex: "Nice try."
  • Several Windstep skips in the raid were fixed.
  • Sanguine Urns inside the raid's radius now display correctly.
Kuldra and other boss fixes:
  • Ascension Cores now drop from Kuldra in the cases where they failed to before.
  • The Regicide achievement now unlocks after killing Kuldra in the cases where it did not.
  • You can no longer hear Kuldra from the Saradomin Temple while another player is in the raid.
  • Camera Lock On works inside Kuldra's interior section.
  • Fuzan no longer turns passive and effectively invisible after certain player deaths, and no longer briefly looks like it gets back up before dying.
  • Titan's Wrath no longer sets you on fire when the special attack is used quickly in a row.
  • The Blue Dragon now takes consistent damage from different heights, luring the Black Dragon to a safespot no longer causes performance drops, and Green Dragons got a stutter and clipping pass.
  • Leaving to the menu during the Velgar fight no longer resets the Dragonkin Altar.

Multiplayer, progression and platform fixes

A progression blocker fixed

One fix matters a lot for co-op groups: players who picked up quest items early in a multiplayer session could get stuck and be unable to move on to the next region. Jagex's example is Imaru's Head stopping players from entering Fellhollow. If you got stuck like that, try progressing again on 1.0.1.

Also fixed: Hosts no longer unlock achievements triggered by another player in their world, the Gilded Gyrhawk Amulet now unlocks after all gold times, Strike True triggers properly, and In Alcarrid's camp reputation now builds gradually instead of jumping straight to level 4.

Platform and setup fixes

Platform or setup1.0.1 fix
PS5Assigned Sort button on chests now visible; Velgar Poison Breath VFX alignment fixed
Xbox and PCTooltips now show while the inventory is open
Switch 2Runecrafting minigame background no longer distorts; Processing Station tooltip no longer cut off at 1.25x HUD scaling

The fun ones

Jagex clearly enjoyed writing the long list. It no longer rains inside player housing ("It no longer rains indoors!"). The giant Bandos symbol in the Journal is gone. The Dragon Med Helm icon is the right shade of red ("So, so sorry."). The Rune Spade is the right way up on the weapons rack. And "some food had power levels," which is now fixed.

The roadmap: Luminance, then the Blood Crystal Saga

The 1.0.1 notes end with a commitment: "Dragonwilds is the third pillar of the RuneScape series," and the "roadmap we have for 2027, and the Blood Crystal Saga, is one we're deeply proud of." That roadmap came from the Dragonwilds Summit at RuneFest on October 3. Here is what Jagex has announced:

  • Luminance, the December free update, which Jagex calls a prelude to the Blood Crystal Saga. It adds the Lyre and Songstones, Fairy Ring travel, elven cosmetics and gear tracked down with Harmonised Crystal Fragments, a Prifddinas building kit, and a new take on Prayer.
  • Song of Rebellion, the first Blood Crystal Saga chapter, set in the elven city of Ailddinas against the Nos Clan. It brings the Hunter skill, which Jagex calls the first of several new skills next year, plus Implings, new kebbit variants, grizzly bears and birds.
  • Crown of Night, the second chapter, in Nos Clan lands under a permanent eclipse, with the Light of Seren and legendary weapons like the Dark Bow and the Ivandis Flail.
  • Official modding with creation tools and an in-game mod browser on all platforms, plus Secure Servers and Leaderboards, all targeted for the first half of 2027 alongside Song of Rebellion.
Jagex has not given exact dates beyond "December" for Luminance and "first half of 2027" for the modding, servers and leaderboards. For more on Jagex's wider RuneScape plans, see our RS4 announcement guide.

Your 1.0.1 checklist

  • Update, then check your world list, including Normal worlds.
  • Load any character that was corrupted and see what the catch-up gave you.
  • Restart your dedicated server if you host one.
  • Back up your PC Saved folder.
  • Unlock Death From Above and try it from a ledge or with Windstep.
  • Pick a bow and learn its special attack. Consider the Ammo Recovery perks.
  • Craft Rune ammo now that it beats Adamant.
  • Enjoy the 40-slot inventory and your new Ring and Amulet slots.

Frequently Asked Questions

When did Dragonwilds 1.0.1 come out?

Jagex posted the 1.0.1 "Eye on Ashenfall" notes on Steam at 5:03 AM CT on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, with a matching post on the official Dragonwilds site. The notes do not list rollout times for each platform.

Does Dragonwilds 1.0.1 restore my missing world save?

It includes "a range of fixes targeting the disappearing world saves." The October 8 patch notes said worlds that disappeared earlier would stay hidden until 1.0.1, so this is the patch meant to bring them back. Check your Normal world list too, since Jagex said some restored worlds came back with default settings.

What happens to a corrupted character in 1.0.1?

Jagex added a catch-up mechanic so corrupted characters can drop back in with aggregated stats and Tier 4 gear. It is compensation, not an exact restore, and Jagex did not publish exactly how the stats are calculated.

Are all save problems fixed now?

Not completely, by Jagex's own account. The notes say a "very, very small" number of players may still run into other save issues that Jagex is still collecting data on. Keep backing up on PC and report problems through the official Discord's Bug Reports.

How do I back up my Dragonwilds save on PC?

The Dragonwilds Wiki lists the default folder as `AppData\Local\RSDragonwilds\Saved` inside your Windows user folder. Close the game and copy that whole folder somewhere safe. Jagex has not published console backup steps.

How does the new jump attack work?

Unlock the "Death From Above!" Skill Tree perk. Then attack while you are slightly above the highest point of a double jump, for example after jumping off a ledge or using Windstep, and you will slam down on enemies below. Damage scales with your equipped weapon.

What are the new bow special attacks?

Shortbow gets Rapid Fire, a backward hop with three quick arrows you can spread across targets. Longbow gets Power Shot, a kneeling full-strength shot. Crossbow gets Heavy Bolt, a short-charge bolt that applies Enchanted effects on hit.

How much inventory space do you get in 1.0.1?

The inventory goes from 32 to 40 slots. The update also adds separate Ring and Amulet slots and improves sorting by Weight, Type and Latest.

Are Rune Arrows better than Adamant now?

Yes. Jagex says Rune Arrows and Bolts now do more damage than Adamant, 4.9x versus 4.2x.

What is next for Dragonwilds after 1.0.1?

Luminance is the December free update and leads into the Blood Crystal Saga in 2027, which has two chapters: Song of Rebellion, with the Hunter skill, and Crown of Night. Jagex is also targeting official modding, Secure Servers and Leaderboards for the first half of 2027.

Sources

1.0.1 is the patch Dragonwilds players were waiting for since the first missing-world reports in September. The save fixes and the character catch-up are what most people will care about, but the rest of the patch is substantial too: ranged has real tools now, the inventory is bigger, and Rune ammo finally beats Adamant. Update, check your saves, back up your folder, and then go try Death From Above off the tallest thing you can find.
