R.E.P.O. just got its biggest update in months. semiwork pushed v0.5.0, The Sunstone Update, to Steam on October 29, 2026, calling it the game's fourth major update. It brings a whole new level called Sunstone Valley Resort, a new enemy named Pony, three new items, 18 new rooms spread across the existing levels, gamepad support and localization into 21 languages.
If you have been away since the Cosmetic Update in May, this is the moment to round up your squad again. Below is everything in the official patch notes, plus practical notes on how the new pieces change a run: where the new map gets dangerous, how the shopkeeper gamble works, which valuables got better, and what the quality of life changes mean for controller and non-English players.
Sunstone Update Release Time and Download
The update went live on Steam on Thursday, October 29, 2026. SteamDB logged the patch at 13:09 UTC, which is 8:09 AM CT. Steam will download it automatically, and you need to be on v0.5.0 to join lobbies with friends who have already updated.
R.E.P.O. is still in Early Access, and semiwork releases big content drops a few times a year with smaller fix patches in between. The patch history shows v0.4.0, The Cosmetic Update, in May 2026, followed by fixes up to v0.4.4. Expect a v0.5.1 or similar hotfix soon, since big R.E.P.O. updates usually get quick follow-ups.

Sunstone Valley Resort: What to Expect
Sunstone Valley Resort is the update's centerpiece. Early player write-ups describe it as a Western mining town that doubles as a tourist attraction, full of shovels, crystals, fossils and other mining and souvenir valuables. The layout leans into vertical rooms, narrow corridors, drops and mine carts.
That combination is exactly what makes R.E.P.O. hard. A heavy, fragile valuable is already a problem on flat ground. On a map with tight doors, dangerous drops and breakable wooden walkways, every carry is a team job.
Tips for your first Sunstone runs
- Scout before you carry. Walk the route to extraction once with empty hands so you know where the drops and narrow doors are.
- Split roles. One player steers the valuable while another clears doors, watches the floor and calls out enemies.
- Use the cart on flat stretches only. Carts are great until the route has stairs or a gap, so park them at the edge and hand-carry the last part.
- Do not overfill the cart near drops. One bump on a narrow ledge can send several valuables over the edge at once.
- Keep someone on the map. The new shop shopping list shows what is already at extraction, which helps you plan the next level's haul.
Pony: The New Enemy
Pony is the new monster, and the community has wasted no time learning to fear it. The official notes only list "New Enemy - Pony!", so the details below come from early player guides rather than semiwork.
Players report that Pony can grab semibots with a long tongue and throw them, kick players standing behind it, attack with its front legs, crawl across ceilings and drop down, and even snatch weapons out of your hands. Guides also say its death sends out a shockwave that can stun nearby players.
How to handle Pony
- Keep moving. Standing still makes the tongue grab easy. Strafe sideways rather than running in a straight line.
- Avoid its front and back. With attacks reported on both ends, side angles are safest.
- Watch the ceiling. If you lose track of Pony in a tall room, look up.
- Do not finish it next to a pit. A stun from the death shockwave at the edge of a drop can end your run.
- Holster weapons up close. If it really can grab weapons, getting too close with the Human Gun out is a gift to Pony.
The New Items
Human Gun
The Human Gun is the headline weapon. Early player guides describe it as a six-shot revolver with a rotating chamber that hits hard but punishes careless firing. Combined with the patch note that guns now aim better when you are close to objects, it should make defensive play more reliable.
Human Adventure Cable
The official notes list the Human Adventure Cable without a description. Players are still testing exactly how it behaves, so check the shop tooltip before you spend team money on it.
Recharge Orb
The Recharge Orb is aimed at the battery economy. Player testing suggests it charges several items at once but splits its charge between them, so it works best when you plan which tools need energy most. It pairs well with the batch of battery fixes in this patch, including corrected charge transfer and the truck charger now using the right amount of energy.
The Shopkeeper Gamble
This is the change most likely to start arguments in voice chat. In the shop, you can now hold an item up to the shopkeeper for a chance at a discount. The other outcome, straight from the notes, is that the item gets destroyed.
Early guides put the odds at roughly one in three with a large discount when it works, but semiwork has not published official numbers. Until it does, the safe approach is simple:
- Only offer items you would not miss.
- Try it when you are about to buy something expensive anyway.
- Agree as a team before anyone gambles shared gear.
Changes to Existing Systems
The "Changes" section is long and mostly about how the game feels.
- Tumble climb: climbing and swinging were reworked with smoother camera follow.
- Loading: fewer freezes when loading levels, and your microphone stays live between levels.
- Death head: you can now discover valuables while possessing your death head, so dead players can still scout.
- Melee weapons: they no longer swing while sitting in the cart, and rotation overshoot is reduced.
- Guns: better aim when close to objects, with less rotation overshoot.
- Vehicles: vehicle grab now uses toggle by default.
- Staffs: they now need to be lowered between casts.
- Arctic Snow Bike: mounting reworked, and damage no longer stays active at low speeds.
- Wizard Purple Crystal: now does a little cloud of roll magic when broken.
- Cosmetic boxes: they fade out more on the map when they are on a different layer from you.
- Level lighting: ambient light and fog get moodier once all extractions are done.
- Grabbing: held objects are more stable at high strength.
- Arena: the starting room was improved.
- Textures: some level textures were improved.
Balance Changes and Valuable Tweaks
The most important balance line is a fix for a real run-ending problem. If there are not enough valuables left in a level to finish extraction, the game will now spawn new smaller valuables a short distance from players. No more stalled runs because the last vase broke.
Other balance changes:
- An Arena Racing track piece that eventually became impossible to clear was rebalanced.
- Elsa generates less overcharge in her small form when she is not stunned.
Headman Manor gets the biggest boost. Lighter coffins and pianos and pricier radios, cameras and diamond displays make Manor runs a little more forgiving.
Fixes
The fix list is long. The ones you are most likely to notice:
- Health sharing no longer takes 10 HP when the target needs less.
- Enemies can no longer become impossible to pick up at certain strength values.
- The Spewer overlay no longer gets stuck if the Spewer dies while attaching.
- Headman no longer gets stuck sideways when killed while attacking under something.
- Elsa no longer needs extra pets when petted too quickly after noticing a player.
- The Mentalist's red sphere effect is removed properly when its attack is interrupted.
- The Defibrillator can no longer revive players stored in another player's inventory.
- Duct Taped Grenades no longer get purchased when activated in the shop extraction point.
- The Pocket C.A.R.T. now gets destroyed in pits.
- Batteries transfer and save charge correctly, and items no longer stop before they are empty.
- The extraction point now spawns the money bag correctly when valuables are added after extraction started.
- Upgrades can no longer bypass their per-shop spawn limit.
- Save files can no longer get corrupted if the game is opened multiple times at once.
- Modded clients can no longer join a lobby without appearing on the player list.
- Voice chat got various playback and reconnect fixes.
Is the Sunstone Update Worth Coming Back For?
Yes. A new level, a new enemy, 18 new rooms in old levels and controller support add up to the most replayable R.E.P.O. has been since launch. The soft-lock fix and death head scouting also make every run feel fairer, especially with newer players in the lobby.
If your group drifted to PEAK or other co-op games over the summer, this is a good week for a reunion. Start with a few Sunstone runs, learn Pony's tells, and keep the shopkeeper gamble for items nobody will cry over.
