The Season 5 midseason patch is live, and it is a bigger one than the midseason updates we have been getting. Blizzard shipped changes to 20 heroes in the main balance pass (counting the UI-only changes for Baptiste), a separate set of Stadium power tweaks, a new Mythic skin for Roadhog, a Stellar Blade crossover, the final chapter of the Reign of Talon story, and an upgrade to how the game catches players who deliberately throw matches. I went through the official Overwatch patch notes for November 3, 2026 line by line and cross-checked them against Blizzard's own midcycle preview post, Polygon's patch breakdown, Destructoid's roundup and Polygon's piece on the Mythic and the collab.
Everything below is sorted so you can find your own hero fast: the headline changes first, then the full list by role with the exact before and after numbers, then the events, the skins, and what I would actually do with the patch in your first few hours. Where Blizzard's own pages disagree with each other, I say so instead of picking a winner.
Overwatch Season 5 Midseason Patch: The Short Version
If you only have a minute, this is what moves the meta.
- Support is where the nerfs land. Jetpack Cat loses 25 base health, Doctrine gets slower cooldowns and weaker Infused numbers, Ana's Biotic Grenade explosion drops from 90 to 60, and Sombra's Hotfix is shorter. Illari and Brigitte get real buffs, so the support pool shifts toward the heroes that were struggling.
- Tanks get mostly small nudges, with Junker Queen and Mauga on the receiving end of buffs. D.Mon has to commit to her barrier and loses the impact damage on Propulsors. Winston's barrier perk heals less.
- Damage heroes are adjusted from both sides. Genji's Deflect is shorter, Vendetta is slower, Anran loses a lot of her Inferno Rush abuse potential but gains primary fire damage, and Reaper, Shion and Emre are pushed up.
- Stadium gets its own pass, including a Winston Tesla Field nerf and buffs for Cassidy, Genji and Sojourn powers.
- The event calendar is stacked. Taking Reign, Excavation Initiative, a Black Friday Vault Sale and a Stellar Blade collab all start today.
Tank Changes
Blizzard's developer comments are worth reading on these because they spell out the intent. All numbers below come straight from the official notes.
D.Mon
The developer comment says the Power Barrier changes are meant to make deploying it "more of a commitment" and to make it easier for enemies to read. In practice that means a longer recovery (0.3 seconds instead of 0.2) and a 0.25 second minimum deploy duration, so you can no longer pop the barrier for a split second as a save and drop it. Propulsors keep their knockback but the 15 impact damage is gone, which cuts her burst. Overstrike's lifesteal also falls from 150% to 125%. Blizzard also fixed a bug where Propulsors launched her much faster in the air than on the ground. Polygon sums up the barrier change as D.Mon having to commit to her shield, and that is the right way to think about it.
Junker Queen
Her health pool was the complaint. Base health goes from 375 to 425 (and from 450 to 500 in 6v6), and Carnage drops from a 9 second cooldown to 7 seconds. Blizzard's reasoning is that she struggles to engage when she cannot apply Wounds and benefit from the healing, so more health and a more available Carnage give her more options when enemies are in range. Commanding Shout also gets a new UI element showing which allies are in range and which are currently affected, which is a genuinely useful quality of life addition for anyone who has guessed at that before.
Mauga
Blizzard says its recent changes pushed his win rate below acceptable bounds. He gets 125 to 150 base armor and Incendiary Chainguns' burning damage over time goes from 15 to 20. Polygon's read is that Mauga had mostly vanished from games over the last few weeks, and these changes are aimed at bringing him back without leaning harder on the enemy tanks.
Ramattra and Winston
Ramattra's Void Accelerator ammo goes from 100 to 125, which helps him apply pressure at range while he is outside Nemesis Form. Winston's Revitalizing Barrier major perk goes from 35 to 30 healing per second. Blizzard's comment is that the earlier Barrier Projector cooldown reduction made the perk more effective through uptime, so this is a small compensation.
Damage Changes
Anran
She gets the most mixed set of changes of any damage hero. Zhuque Fans damage rises from 22 to 24, and Vermillion Ascent's cast time drops from 1.2 seconds to 1 second so the ultimate can be used more reactively in skirmishes. On the other side, Inferno Rush loses its knockback and can no longer hit the same target multiple times per use, which Polygon points out kills the habit of spamming the perk to drop a cooldown quickly.
Genji
Deflect goes from 2 seconds to 1.5 seconds. Blizzard says recent changes helped Genji secure eliminations and play more aggressively, so the shorter Deflect puts more emphasis on timing and cuts his defensive uptime. If you play Genji, that half second is what you will notice most. In Stadium he also gets a power buff, covered below.
Reaper, Shion, Emre and Echo
Reaper goes from 275 to 300 base health. Blizzard's note says recent hitbox and projectile size changes reduced his effectiveness, and extra health compensates. Shion's Execution starting spread falls from 8.5 to 5.7 degrees, which makes close range shots more reliable without a full charge, and Satsuriku Spree's time per volley falls from 0.6 to 0.5 seconds. Emre's Cyber Frag detonates in 0.5 seconds instead of 0.6, and his default reticle options get some tidy-up (a Rotation setting added, Thickness removed). Blizzard says his in-game reticle itself did not change. Echo's Aerial Munitions minor perk now also refills ammo when you use it, so you are not forced to reload right after.
Hanzo and Vendetta
Hanzo's Sonic Disruption major perk no longer overrides Sombra's hacked health packs, and in the same breath Sombra's EMP now overrides all enemy hack effects on health packs. Neither hero can take over a pack the other already controls, but EMP still wins as an ultimate.
Vendetta is slowed down. Overhead leap speed in Palatine Fang goes from 11 to 9.5, the initial swing delay goes from 0.15 to 0.2 seconds, and the Raging Storm perk's horizontal knockback on Whirlwind Dash is cut from 8 to 4. Blizzard's comment is that recent changes increased her overall lethality and that repeated displacement from multiple hits was a problem. Polygon's take is that this is good news for anyone tired of being bounced into walls.
Support Changes
Ana, Doctrine and Jetpack Cat: the nerf group
Ana keeps the increased self healing on Biotic Grenade, but its explosion damage against enemies drops from 90 to 60. Blizzard's comment says the earlier self healing increase also raised her burst damage, and this separates the two values.
Doctrine gets several small hits at once. Eternal Scepter's primary fire recovery time goes from 0.6 to 0.65, Infused damage drops from 90 to 80, Infused healing drops from 120 to 110, Shrouded Momentum's cooldown rises from 8 to 10 seconds, and Infuse's cooldown rises from 8 to 9 seconds. The stated goal is to reduce his healing output relative to the utility he brings and to make both abilities feel like decisions. One detail worth knowing: The official page and Destructoid both label the 8 to 9 second change as Infuse, while Polygon's list drops that label and skips the Eternal Scepter numbers, so use the official page as the reference.
Jetpack Cat drops from 225 to 200 base health. Frenetic Flight's acceleration rises from 25 to 28 meters per second, while fuel regeneration falls from 25% to 20% per second. So she is faster off the mark but she cannot stay up as long, and she dies to less.
Illari and Brigitte: the buff group
Illari's Solar Rifle reaches maximum charge in 0.575 seconds instead of 0.65, and Healing Pylon heals 50 per projectile instead of 40. Blizzard ties this to the projectile size changes earlier in the season that cost her offensive effectiveness. It is not the kit rework a lot of Illari players have asked for, as Polygon points out, but it is a clear step.
Brigitte's Inspire gets a shorter internal cooldown (1.25 down to 1 second) and more instant healing (12 up to 15). The point is more frequent healing during sustained fights.
Sombra and Baptiste
Sombra's Hotfix duration falls from 12 to 10 seconds, and Cyberspace's Weaken effect drops from 50% to 40%, giving enemies more room to react. Blizzard also fixed a bug where Sombra interacted badly with allied health bars set to the Contextual option. Baptiste's change is purely informational: Regenerative Burst now has a UI element that shows which allies are in range and which are currently affected.
Stadium Power Changes
Stadium got its own short list, which is useful if you are grinding powers for a build. Blizzard words a couple of these entries awkwardly, so I have kept its phrasing instead of guessing at what the underlying power does.
Two other Stadium notes sit in the bug fix list: Vendetta's Scaled Steel was granting more Palatine Fang swing range than intended and has been fixed, and El'Saka Suppressor now works properly on D.Va. The notes also say that in a previous update Blizzard removed grouping restrictions for Stadium Ranked after they were unintentionally re-enabled.
Bug Fixes and Map Fixes
The rest of the technical changes in the official notes are small, but a few matter if you play those heroes.
- Wrecking Ball: Grappling Claw retract controls could greatly increase his rolling speed. That is fixed.
- D.Mon: the air versus ground Propulsors launch speed bug is fixed.
- Mizuki: she could get stuck in the payload on Circuit Royale. Fixed.
- Sombra: allied health bars set to "Contextual" no longer cause a bug.
- Skins: weapon audio on Sierra's Made My Night skin and a bug with Juno's Pureflow and Fearless skins are both fixed.
- Eichenwalde (Hybrid): Blizzard says the sightline is gone for good, with an apology to Torbjörn players.
- Watchpoint: Gibraltar (Escort): a spot where some heroes could get stuck is fixed.
Gameplay Sabotage Detection
This is the least flashy part of the patch and probably the one a lot of ranked players care about most. Blizzard says it has improved its detection tools for gameplay sabotage, which lets it more accurately spot players being disruptive, and that it has already taken action against many players. The examples given are consistently and intentionally failing to contribute to team fights, repeatedly jumping off the map, and intentionally blocking team progress. Blizzard says it will keep iterating so it can catch more of them.
There is also a player facing change: Thank You messages. If you report someone for disruptive behavior and appropriate action is taken against them, you will get a message in the game's Notification Hub. Blizzard has not published penalty details or numbers in this patch, so I cannot tell you how many players are affected or what the punishments are. What it does mean in practice is that reporting a griefer is now worth the few seconds, because you will find out if it worked.
Taking Reign: The Event Pass and the Story Finale
Blizzard's preview frames Taking Reign as the conclusion of the first year long story. Doomfist and Overwatch head to Rialto to stop Vendetta, and the event runs from November 3 to December 7. It is a five week event with 24 tiers of rewards, split into two tracks:
- Free track: work toward an Epic Sigma skin recolor.
- Premium Event Pass: costs 1,000 Overwatch Coins and opens an extra path with the Legendary Resurgence Doomfist skin and Vendetta's new Heroic Weapon, plus other items. The patch notes themselves call the weapon a "Vendetta mythic weapon" while the Blizzard preview post calls it a Heroic Weapon, so the label is not consistent across Blizzard's pages.
Excavation Initiative, Junkrat's Loot Hunt and Double XP
Excavation Initiative returns from November 3 to December 7 with changes. You earn Loot Boxes by logging in and winning a game, and you repeat that across multiple weeks. Per Blizzard's preview post, you complete three digs each week for a Loot Box, and keep digging for extra Loot Boxes, Epic Loot Boxes and even a Legendary Loot Box. The patch notes list Base, Epic and Legendary Loot Boxes as the rewards.
Junkrat's Loot Hunt is back with Double XP for the whole event. The format this time is more relaxed: complete five games to finish a challenge and get a Loot Box, then repeat it up to nine times. There is no daily reset and no daily pressure, so you can grind it in one sitting or spread it across the weekend.
One date problem here. The patch notes and Destructoid give November 19 to 23, while Blizzard's news post gives November 20 to 23. I cannot tell which is correct from the sources. I would plan around the later start and be pleasantly surprised if Double XP turns up a day early, and I will update this guide if Blizzard clarifies.
OWCS World Finals Cheer Rally
The Overwatch World Champions Series finals feature twelve teams in Guangzhou, per Blizzard's preview. The in-game Cheer Rally rewards you with Cheer for completing challenges and for watching the broadcasts (you need to link your account when you watch on Twitch or YouTube). Rewards are loot boxes, Battle Pass XP and cosmetics.
The dates differ between Blizzard's two pages:
- Patch notes: earn Cheer by playing matches and completing challenges from November 24 to December 7, with extra Cheer from broadcasts from December 2 to December 6.
- Blizzard news post: the World Finals run December 2 to 6 and the Cheer Rally runs December 3 to 7.
Overwatch x EVE Protocol (Stellar Blade) Collab
The crossover brings five characters from Stellar Blade to the shop from November 3 to November 17. Per Blizzard's post and the two Polygon and Destructoid pieces:
- Widowmaker as EVE
- D.Va as Lily, an Ultra skin with custom kill effects, first and third person reactivity and a unique Hello emote. Her mech, Tokki, is based on Providence, the Stellar Blade final boss (Polygon spells it Toki, Blizzard's post spells it Tokki)
- Freja as Raven, EVE's most dangerous adversary
- Vendetta as Tachy
- Soldier: 76 as Adam
Mythic Necrotic Knight Roadhog
Roadhog gets his first Mythic skin, and it arrives on November 3. Necrotic Knight is described by Blizzard as a corrupted knight with an endless hunger for souls, and it has four levels of Mythic customization:
- Level 1: the base Necrotic Knight form with custom effects.
- Level 2: new helmet options inspired by Skull, Knight and Plague Doctor looks.
- Level 3: additional color palettes.
- Level 4: ethereal skulls, claws, spectral flames, smoke and transformative ability effects.
Event and Date Cheat Sheet
Blizzard's preview also mentions that Drives get separate Competitive and Quick Play tracks starting in December. You can earn up to 3,000 Competitive Points plus a Signature in Competitive, or up to 3,000 Legacy Weapon Points in Quick Play. Once you reach the fourth checkpoint this season you can equip eligible previous Signatures.
The Black Friday Vault Sale runs November 3 to December 7 with curated cosmetic bundles. Blizzard names the Peak Mega Bundle, Hero Spotlight Bundles for Mercy, Soldier: 76, Ramattra and D.Va, the 2026 Mega Unvault Bundle, Tank, Support and Damage Essentials Bundle 2, and a StarCraft Mega Bundle.
What To Do With This Patch: By Main
None of this is tested data. It is my read of the numbers, so treat it as a starting point and not a verdict.
If you play tank
- D.Mon: stop using Power Barrier as a one second panic button. With the 0.25 second minimum deploy and slower recovery, plan where you put it.
- Junker Queen: the extra 50 health and a Carnage you can use every 7 seconds should make diving into a fight less risky. Watch the new Commanding Shout UI to see who is actually getting the buff.
- Mauga: more armor and stronger burning damage mean you should be igniting people on every engage again.
- Winston: a slightly weaker Revitalizing Barrier is a small change, so expect the same plan with a bit less sustain.
If you play damage
- Genji: shorter Deflect means you cannot just hold it through an entire burst. Time it against the specific ability or ultimate you want to block.
- Vendetta: the slower overhead leap and swing windup are easier to dodge, so both you and the people playing against her will notice the difference. Drop the habit of stacking Whirlwind Dash for repeated displacement.
- Anran: the primary fire buff is the safe pick. If you used Inferno Rush as a repeated cooldown tool, that no longer works.
- Reaper, Shion, Emre: all of them got modest but meaningful buffs, especially Shion at close range.
If you play support
- Illari: faster charge and more pylon healing make her a good time to try the hero again if you dropped her.
- Brigitte: more frequent Inspire healing helps in the sustained fights Blizzard says it was aiming for.
- Doctrine, Jetpack Cat and Ana: expect lower numbers. If any of them were your comfort pick, spend a few quick play games relearning the new cooldown windows before you queue ranked.
- Sombra: Hotfix is shorter, so you will need to choose targets more carefully.
If you grind events
Start Excavation Initiative right away, because the Loot Boxes depend on logging in and winning games across multiple weeks. Save Junkrat's Loot Hunt for the Double XP window, and plan on the later start date until Blizzard clears up the discrepancy. If you are deciding on the Taking Reign premium path, the 1,000 Overwatch Coins covers the Resurgence Doomfist skin and Vendetta's weapon, and the free track gives you the Sigma recolor either way.
What We Could Not Confirm
- The exact start date of Junkrat's Loot Hunt (November 19 or November 20).
- The exact dates of the OWCS Cheer Rally (patch notes say November 24 to December 7, the news post says December 3 to 7).
- Any time of day for event starts or the collab store release. Blizzard did not list times in these pages.
- The label for Vendetta's Taking Reign weapon (Heroic versus Mythic) and the number of challenges needed to finish the Event Pass.
- Prices for the Stellar Blade bundles and the Mythic Prism cost for Necrotic Knight Roadhog.
