Escape from Tarkov's patch 1.3.0.0 landed on October 29, 2026, and it is the kind of update that changes what you do the moment you log in. The Halloween event is back with zombies, two dedicated infected maps and a short story questline from Skier and Therapist. The weather has flipped to fall. Seasonal mode skills now level much faster, Metabolism works differently, and PvE players are meeting tougher PMC bots on the high-level maps.
There is also one piece of bad news hiding at the bottom of the notes. The move to Unity 6, which Battlestate had slated for October, is now planned for mid-November as part of update 1.3.5.0.
This guide walks through everything in the official 1.3.0.0 notes, then breaks down the Halloween event quests, how the infected maps work, what to bring, and how the skill changes affect your character. Quest steps and rewards here are taken from the live quest data on community trackers and the official changelog, and we note anything that is still being mapped by players.

The Halloween 2026 Event: How It Works
This year's outbreak is more contained than the one in 2024. Instead of infection spreading across the regular maps from The Lab, Battlestate built two separate event locations: Infected Factory and Infected Lab. Both are Halloween-dressed versions of the maps you already know, packed with infected that spawn all over the location and sprint straight at you.
To find them, open the map selection screen and use the toggle in the top right corner to switch from regular locations to event locations. If you do not see the event maps, that toggle is almost always the reason.
A few rules make these maps different from normal raids:
- Infected Tagilla roams the event maps carrying a scythe instead of his usual hammer.
- Infected Factory extracts are limited to Gate 0 and Gate 3.
- Infected Lab extracts are limited to the Parking Gate and the Sewage Conduit, and both need a specific item to open.
- A Labs keycard is still needed to enter Infected Lab, according to the current quest guides on community trackers.
Halloween Event Quests and Rewards
Every confirmed event quest so far needs only level 1, which makes this event a big deal for fresh characters. Here are the three opening quests with their verified objectives and rewards.
Rumors is the gate. Nothing else in the chain opens until you finish it, and finishing it unlocks The Best Defense and Follow-Up Examination at the same time.
After Follow-Up Examination, the story continues with Halloween: Unexpected Help from Therapist. The event list on trackers also shows Initial Examination, Tightening The Quarantine, A New Vaccine, High-Risk High-Reward, First Results, For the Greater Good, For the Greater Good: An Agreement and The Final Push. Players are still confirming the exact objectives and branches for the later steps, and Battlestate has adjusted events mid-run before, so expect some of that to shift.
Halloween: Rumors walkthrough
Load into Infected Factory, find a spot with one or two ways in, and let the infected come to you. A stairwell, a corner office or a short corridor all work. The infected run at you on their own, so you do not need to hunt. Headshots are the goal, because a few hits to the head drop most of them while body shots waste ammo.
Bring far more loaded magazines than you think you need. Reloading single rounds by hand while three runners close in is how most first attempts end. Keep an ear out for Infected Tagilla and back off rather than trading at melee range with a scythe.
The reward is the reason to do this first. The AA-12 Gen 2 TerraGroup Labs shotgun with three magazines and four packs of slugs is close to the ideal tool for the next two quests.
Halloween: The Best Defense walkthrough
This is the quest that eats kits. The objectives look simple: enter Infected Lab, kill 10 infected, find a clue for the secret extraction, and get out. The catch is that you can only leave through the Parking Gate or the Sewage Conduit, and both need an item to open.
The two items listed on trackers are:
- Car Keys, found inside the rounded conference room in the Recreation Area
- Collector Map, found on a PMC corpse in the server room or inside that same rounded conference room
Halloween: Follow-Up Examination walkthrough
Therapist wants a blood sample from a dead scientist in a hazmat suit. You open the body with Medical instruments, which are consumed on use, so pack a spare. The blood sample only exists while the quest is active and you lose it if you die.
Known scientist locations:
- Infected Lab: at the intersection near the Blue keycard room, inside the tunnel leading to the Sewage Conduit extraction, and in the middle of the working area
- Infected Factory: outside the medical labs, and next to the pumping station on top of the tanks
What to Bring Into the Infected Maps
The infected maps reward a different loadout from normal PvP raids. The fights are close, frequent and loud, and the danger is running dry, not getting out-aimed.
- Primary: a high-capacity semi-auto or full-auto shotgun, or the AA-12 from Rumors once you have it
- Backup: a rifle with real penetration, because community reports describe armored infected and Tagilla soaks a lot
- Magazines: pre-load every one before the raid and carry more than usual
- Medical: Medical instruments for Follow-Up Examination, painkillers and enough healing for bites
- Water: extra hydration, since players report a virus effect from close hits that drains hydration until you extract
- Keycard: a Labs keycard for Infected Lab
- Armor: a solid helmet and mid-tier everything else, because losing gear is likely
Skill Changes: Seasonal Mode, Metabolism and Weapon Skills
The skill changes will matter long after the zombies leave.
Seasonal mode players benefit most
The headline is that all skills level significantly faster in Seasonal mode. Battlestate did not publish exact multipliers, so nobody outside the studio can say "three times faster" with confidence yet. What is clear is that the slow early grind on a Seasonal character, where Strength and Endurance barely move for the first weeks, should be much shorter.
Metabolism now rewards real eating
Metabolism used to be the skill people cheesed by spamming tiny consumables. Progress is now based on how much energy or hydration you actually restore. In practice, that means eating and drinking when your bars are low gives more progress than topping up at nearly full.
Weapon skills catch up
Weapon skill leveling was slower than other skills, and the patch calls that a fix rather than a buff. If your mastery on a favorite platform felt stuck, it should move noticeably faster from now on.
PvE Changes: Harder PMC Bots
PvE Zone players get the change that will be felt most in long sessions. High-difficulty PMC bots can now spawn on high-level locations. Alongside that, Battlestate fixed a bug that made PMC bots act oddly in some cases. They now always treat players as hostile.
If you run PvE to learn maps or level a character without PvP stress, the high-level maps just got sharper. Expect bots that hold angles and push more like a real squad on maps such as Lighthouse, Streets and Reserve. Those are examples of high-level maps, and Battlestate has not published an exact list.
Smaller Fixes Worth Knowing
A few of the fixes will save raids:
- Malfunction magazines: a bug sometimes stopped you loading or unloading a magazine after a weapon malfunction. That could leave you stuck mid-fight, and it is fixed.
- Optic field of view: certain scopes showed the wrong field of view, which is now corrected.
- Partisan spawns: the spawn chance math was wrong in raids with no low-karma players. Partisan should now appear at the intended rate.
- Map colliders: Icebreaker, Interchange and Shoreline got geometry and collider fixes, so expect fewer invisible walls and odd ledges.
- Trader scenes: some players could not open trader interactive scenes, and that is fixed.
Unity 6 Delayed to Mid-November
The engine move to Unity 6 was originally planned for October. The 1.3.0.0 notes say it is now part of update 1.3.5.0, aimed at mid-November. Battlestate did not give a specific date or say what else 1.3.5.0 will include.
For players, that means the current performance profile stays as it is through the Halloween event. If you were holding off on a hardware tweak until after the engine switch, you have a few more weeks.
Should You Play the Event Now?
Yes, especially if your character is young. Battlestate has not announced an end date for Halloween 2026, and event achievements, posters and quests usually disappear once an event closes. With Unity 6 also landing in mid-November, finishing the chain early is the safe move.
Veterans will mainly want the achievements and the fun of the infected maps. Newer players should treat Rumors, The Best Defense and Follow-Up Examination as a free head start: three raids, a lot of XP and weapons you would otherwise spend days earning.
Frequently Asked Questions
When did the Escape from Tarkov Halloween 2026 event start?
The event started with patch 1.3.0.0 on October 29, 2026. Battlestate has not announced an end date, so plan to finish the questline sooner rather than later.
How do I get to Infected Factory and Infected Lab?
Open the map selection screen and switch from regular locations to event locations using the toggle in the top right corner. Both infected maps appear there once the toggle is on.
What is the first Halloween quest in Tarkov?
Halloween: Rumors from Skier. It requires level 1 and asks you to enter Infected Factory and kill 10 infected. Completing it unlocks The Best Defense and Follow-Up Examination.
How do you extract from Infected Lab?
You can only leave through the Parking Gate or the Sewage Conduit, and both need a specific item. Car Keys are in the rounded conference room in the Recreation Area, and a Collector Map can be found on a PMC corpse in the server room or in that same conference room.
Do you need a keycard for Infected Lab?
Current quest guides on community trackers say a Labs keycard is still required to enter Infected Lab. Follow-Up Examination rewards two Labs access keycards, so finishing it covers your next couple of entries.
Where is the dead scientist for Follow-Up Examination?
On Infected Lab he can be at the intersection near the Blue keycard room, inside the tunnel to the Sewage Conduit exit, or in the middle of the working area. On Infected Factory he can be outside the medical labs or next to the pumping station on top of the tanks. Bring Medical instruments to open the body.
How much faster do skills level in Seasonal mode now?
Battlestate only says skills level significantly faster in Seasonal mode and did not publish exact numbers. Expect the early Strength and Endurance grind to move much quicker than before.
When is the Unity 6 update coming to Tarkov?
The Unity 6 switch moved from October to mid-November as part of update 1.3.5.0. No exact date has been announced yet.
Did patch 1.3.0.0 change PvE?
Yes. High-difficulty PMC bots can now spawn on high-level locations in the PvE Zone, and a fix makes PMC bots always treat players as hostile.
