Supercell's Clash Royale October 2026 balance changes are out, and they are a lot busier than the usual season-start trim. The official October Balance Changes post, headed "Balance Update – October 6th," lists 7 nerfs, 8 buffs, 1 rework and 2 bug fixes. The short version: the cheap defensive cards that have been in almost every top deck get trimmed, the new Minion Giant and Hero Ice Wizard get nerfed again, and Supercell buffs a whole row of older win conditions (Goblin Barrel, Goblin Drill, Lava Hound, Ram Rider, Wall Breakers, X-Bow) to get them closer to the strongest tower-takers.
This lands one day after the Shocktober season started on October 5 with Hero Electro Wizard and the Electro Giant Evolution, so the ladder is already in flux. Below you will find every change with its exact before and after values, Supercell's reasoning in its own words, the simple math on what the numbers actually do, and which archetypes come out ahead. All values are at Level 11, as Supercell always lists them, and as the post notes, "most of the time, base form changes also affect a card's Evolution and Hero forms."
When Do the October 2026 Balance Changes Go Live?
Supercell's post is dated October 6, 2026 and labels the update "Balance Update – October 6th." That is the date we use. Some community trackers list the changes as live from October 5, the first day of the Shocktober season, which is likely a time zone or announcement timing difference, so if you logged in late on the 5th you may already have seen the new values. Either way, by October 6 the new numbers are the ones you are playing against.
For context, this is the second balance post in a row that touches the September season's new cards. On September 16, Supercell already cut Hero Ice Wizard's freeze from 7 to 5 seconds, trimmed Goblinstein's ability from 4 to 3.5 seconds, and lowered Minion Giant's damage from 189 to 168, according to its September Balance Changes post. The October changes go further on both.

The Nerfs, Card by Card
Hero Ice Wizard: Freeze Damage 89 to 46 (-49%)
Supercell's line here is fun: "Hero Ice Wizard claims his icy little buddy is all frost and no bite, but we're not buying it." The key outcome is spelled out: "Frosty Fella will no longer take out Skeletons and Bats with his freeze effect."
That matters more than the raw number suggests. Hero Ice Wizard arrived in September as the season's new Hero, and his Frosty Fella ability freezes troops in an area. When the freeze also killed Skeletons and Bats, it was crowd control and cheap-unit clear in one button. Now it is crowd control only. Combined with the September 16 cut to the freeze duration, this is the second nerf in under a month. Hero Ice Wizard is still a strong defensive tool, but you will need a second answer for swarms.
Cannon Evolution: Barrage Damage 281 to 261 (-7%)
Supercell calls Evolved Cannon "still the best building in the meta," even with Minion Giant around. The barrage drops 20 damage. Importantly, Supercell says it "will still take out Dart Goblin," so that one-shot interaction survives. What changes is how much it chips off larger pushes. Evo Cannon stays a strong defensive building. It just gives you a little less free value when a big push walks into it.
Barbarian Barrel: Damage 232 to 215 (-8%)
Supercell's reasoning: "After the buffs to Barbarians, their rock 'n roll cousin quickly became the go-to small spell for both cycle and control decks." The specific interaction that changes: "It will no longer fully counter Wall Breakers."
This one connects to the Wall Breakers buff below. Barbarian Barrel was a clean, cheap answer to Wall Breakers. After this patch, Barbarian Barrel deals less damage and Wall Breakers hit harder, so that answer is gone. If your deck relied on Barbarian Barrel as your only Wall Breakers counter, adjust. Since base form changes usually carry over, community trackers note the Hero Barbarian Barrel form is affected too.
Elixir Collector: Lifetime 1m 33s to 1m 50s, Production Every 13s to 15s
This is the most interesting change in the list. Supercell says, "Considering the buff to Three Musketeers, we wanted them to be viable without depending on Elixir Collector. Its RoE (Return on Elixir, yes we made that up) will now take longer to pay off."
Look at the two numbers together. The Collector now lives longer (110 seconds instead of 93) but makes elixir more slowly (one every 15 seconds instead of 13). Divide one by the other and the total over a full lifetime barely moves: roughly 7.2 elixir before, roughly 7.3 now (our arithmetic from Supercell's values, not an official figure). What does change is how fast you get it. Each elixir now takes 15 seconds to arrive instead of 13. In a game where tempo decides everything, a slower payback means more time where you are down elixir and open to a punish. Collector decks will feel this most in the first minute of the match.
Minion Giant: Hit Speed 1.5s to 1.7s (+13%)
Supercell: "Minion Giant was too punishing for a flying win condition. We're slowing down his hit speed to retain his 'Giant' feel while cutting down on his damage output." Minion Giant launched in September as a 4 elixir Rare flying win condition that only targets buildings and towers. Each hit still does the same damage, but there is more time between hits. Using Supercell's post-September 16 damage of 168, that works out to roughly 112 damage per second before, about 99 now, a drop of around 12%. He still gets to the tower and still hurts, he just needs to stay connected longer to do the same damage.
Royal Ghost: Hitpoints 1210 to 1152 (-5%)
According to Supercell, Royal Ghost "had floated beyond his usual control and bridge spam homes and into bait and cycle decks." A 58 hitpoint cut makes him easier to remove for the cheap spells and small troops those decks face. There is a twist in the bug fix section below: his damage goes up by 1%, but that is a technical fix, not compensation.
Skeletons: Tighter Spawn Spread
No number change in the official post, just "a tighter spawn spread." Supercell explains that Skeletons offer "some of the best cycling utility in the game" plus "high damage and strong distraction value," and the tighter spread "will make them more vulnerable to splash damage." Community data from RoyaleAPI, relayed by third-party trackers, puts the spawn radius going from about 0.74 to 0.53 tiles. Supercell itself does not give that figure, so treat it as community data. In practice, three Skeletons standing closer together are easier to clear with a single splash hit, so the 1 elixir distraction gets a little less reliable against splash troops and small spells.
The Buffs, Card by Card
Supercell grouped the six win condition buffs with one shared explanation: "We're buffing weaker conditions to put them on par with the best tower-takers in the game."
Goblin Barrel: First Hit Speed 0.4s to 0.3s (-25%)
Goblins that land from the barrel now get their first hit off 0.1 seconds faster. That sounds tiny, but Goblin Barrel is a race. The faster the first stab lands, the more damage you get in before a reaction spell or a defending troop arrives. Log Bait style decks benefit most.
Goblin Drill: Crown Tower Spawn Damage 0 to 20
Goblin Drill now deals 20 damage to a Crown Tower when it emerges. Before, the spawn did nothing to the tower. It is a small chunk, but it is guaranteed on every Drill that lands next to a tower, and across a full game of Drill cycling that adds up.
Lava Hound: Damage 53 to 71 (+33%), Hit Speed 1.3s to 1.5s (+15%)
The headline number looks huge, but the slower hit speed eats some of it. Do the math: 53 every 1.3 seconds is about 41 damage per second, while 71 every 1.5 seconds is about 47. That is roughly a 16% damage per second increase, not 33% (our arithmetic). Lava Hound is mostly a tank for the Lava Pups and whatever follows it, so the real effect is that a Hound left unanswered on a tower chips noticeably more. Lava Hound decks with Balloon or other air support get a little more pressure.
Ram Rider: Damage 250 to 271 (+8%)
A flat damage increase on the ram's hits. Ram Rider decks are typically bridge spam or beatdown support, and more damage per connection means each successful push takes a bigger bite out of the tower.
Wall Breakers: Damage 281 to 302 (+7%)
Paired with the Barbarian Barrel nerf, this is a double win for Wall Breakers players. They hit harder, and one of their most common counters no longer kills them cleanly. Expect to see more Wall Breakers in cycle decks.
X-Bow: Damage 58 to 61 (+4%)
Three more damage per shot. X-Bow fires many times while it is locked on, so a small per-hit buff becomes real tower damage over a full lock. Siege players will take it.
Monk: Ability Cast Time 0.93s to 0.7s (-25%)
Supercell says, "Monk is a bit slow to react in his old age. Pensive Protection will now activate faster, with a little less pondering before the protection." The ability now kicks in about a quarter of a second sooner. That makes it easier to reflect a spell or projectile you only see coming at the last moment.
Three Musketeers: Hitpoints 883 to 906 (+3%)
Supercell: "Three Musketeers already pack plenty of firepower, but we're giving them a little more staying power to boost their offense." This is the other half of the Elixir Collector change. Supercell wants Three Musketeers to work without a Collector holding them up. Each Musketeer survives a bit longer, which is exactly what matters when a spell lands on the group.
The Rework: Golden Knight
Damage: 161 to 168 (+5%). Dash range: 5.5 to 5 tiles (-9%).
Supercell gives a technical reason: "Months ago, Golden Knight received a bug fix that brought him in line with other dashing cards. He now targets the edge of a card's collision radius rather than its center. We're reducing his dash range to compensate for the extra reach this consistency change gave him."
So this is not really a nerf or a buff. The earlier fix effectively gave Golden Knight extra reach, because he now measured to the edge of a target instead of its center. The range cut takes that reach back, and the damage bump keeps his overall output roughly in place. Golden Knight players should practice their dash chains again, because some chains that used to connect may now fall just short.
Bug Fixes
Elite Barbarians Evolution: Spear Sight Range 4.5 to 6 Tiles
"Evolved Elite Barbarians will no longer ignore troops outside of their base sight range while throwing their spears." This fixes a case where the spear throw could not see targets it should have been able to hit. Evo Elite Barbarians were already trimmed on September 8 (spear range and Rage duration), so this is a correctness fix rather than a power push.
Royal Ghost: Damage 261 to 263 (+1%)
"We're increasing Royal Ghost's damage by 1% to fix a Level 16 interaction inconsistency against Electro Wizard." With Hero Electro Wizard arriving this season, that interaction is going to come up a lot, so the fix makes sense. Royal Ghost's net change for October is 58 fewer hitpoints and 2 more damage.
Winners and Losers: Which Decks Gain and Lose
Supercell does not publish deck win rates in the post, so this section is our read of the official changes, not data.
Likely winners
- Wall Breakers cycle: higher damage and a weaker Barbarian Barrel counter. The clearest winner of the patch.
- Log Bait (Goblin Barrel): faster first hit, and two of the cheap answers bait decks face (Barbarian Barrel, Skeletons) are slightly weaker.
- Goblin Drill: guaranteed 20 tower damage on every successful spawn.
- X-Bow siege: small but real per-shot damage increase, and the tighter Skeleton spread does not hurt siege much.
- Lava Hound air decks: about 16% more damage per second on the Hound itself.
- Ram Rider and Three Musketeers decks: direct buffs, and Supercell clearly wants Three Musketeers played more without leaning on a Collector.
- Monk decks: more reliable reflect timing.
Likely losers
- Hero Ice Wizard decks: second nerf in a row, and Frosty Fella no longer clears Skeletons or Bats.
- Minion Giant decks: around 12% less damage per second on the season's newest win condition.
- Elixir Collector decks: same total elixir, slower payback.
- Decks built around Evo Cannon and Barbarian Barrel as cheap defense: both still good, both a bit worse against big pushes and Wall Breakers.
- Royal Ghost bait and cycle lists: fewer hitpoints, easier to clear.
- Skeleton-dependent cycle decks: the tighter spread makes them easier to splash.
The bigger picture
Look at the list as a whole and Supercell's goal is clear. September's meta leaned on a small group of efficient defensive cards (Evo Cannon, Barbarian Barrel, Skeletons) plus the season's new cards. October trims those and spreads power to older win conditions. That should mean more variety on the ladder going into the Power Surge Global Tournament (October 20 to 25) and the 20-Win Challenge (October 26 to November 2) later in the season.
What Else Is New in Shocktober
The balance changes arrive alongside the Shocktober season, which started October 5. The season post lists:
- New Hero: Electro Wizard, with the Surging Strikes ability that stuns two nearby enemies at once. He is in the upgraded Pass Royale.
- New Evolution: Electro Giant, unlocked for free by completing the Shocktober: The Movie! album event (October 6 to November 2). His pulse "shrinks and de-levels enemies in range."
- Spooky Chess competitive league, October 5 to 19.
- C.H.A.O.S modes with 20 new cards: Blackout (October 19 to 26), Draft (October 19 to November 2) and Power Surge (October 26 to November 2).
- Power Surge Global Tournament, October 20 to 25.
- 20-Win Challenge, October 26 to November 2.
- Keep the Lights On community event, with details still to come.
How to Adjust Your Deck This Week
- If you run Barbarian Barrel as your Wall Breakers answer: add a second answer, or plan to take a little tower damage when Wall Breakers connect.
- If you play Hero Ice Wizard: stop counting on Frosty Fella to clear Skeletons and Bats. Pair him with a real splash or spell.
- If you play Minion Giant: you need the Giant to stay on the tower longer for the same damage, so protect him from air defense more carefully.
- If you play Elixir Collector: place it when you have a safe window, because the payback window is longer. Supercell's change is designed to make you feel that risk.
- If you play Golden Knight: test your dash chains in a friendly battle before taking him to ladder. The 0.5 tile range cut can break chains you used to rely on.
- If you play Wall Breakers, Goblin Barrel, Goblin Drill, X-Bow, Lava Hound or Ram Rider: now is a good time to push trophies before the meta adjusts.
Frequently Asked Questions
When do the Clash Royale October 2026 balance changes go live?
Supercell's official post is dated October 6, 2026 and is titled "Balance Update – October 6th." Some community trackers list the changes as live from October 5, the first day of the Shocktober season. Either way, the new values are in place from October 6.
What cards were nerfed in the October 2026 balance update?
Seven cards were nerfed: Hero Ice Wizard (freeze damage 89 to 46), Cannon Evolution (barrage damage 281 to 261), Barbarian Barrel (damage 232 to 215), Elixir Collector (lifetime 1m 33s to 1m 50s, production 13s to 15s), Minion Giant (hit speed 1.5s to 1.7s), Royal Ghost (hitpoints 1210 to 1152) and Skeletons (tighter spawn spread).
What cards were buffed in the October 2026 balance update?
Eight cards were buffed: Goblin Barrel (first hit 0.4s to 0.3s), Goblin Drill (20 Crown Tower spawn damage), Lava Hound (damage 53 to 71 with hit speed 1.3s to 1.5s), Ram Rider (damage 250 to 271), Wall Breakers (damage 281 to 302), X-Bow (damage 58 to 61), Monk (ability cast time 0.93s to 0.7s) and Three Musketeers (hitpoints 883 to 906).
Was Minion Giant nerfed again?
Yes. On September 16 his damage dropped from 189 to 168. In October his hit speed slows from 1.5 seconds to 1.7 seconds. By our math that cuts his damage per second from about 112 to about 99.
Does Barbarian Barrel still kill Wall Breakers?
No. Supercell says Barbarian Barrel "will no longer fully counter Wall Breakers." Barbarian Barrel's damage drops to 215 while Wall Breakers' damage rises to 302 in the same update.
Is the Lava Hound buff really 33%?
The per-hit damage rises 33%, from 53 to 71, but the Hound also hits more slowly, every 1.5 seconds instead of 1.3. The actual damage per second increase works out to about 16% by our calculation.
What happened to Golden Knight?
Golden Knight was reworked. His damage rises from 161 to 168 and his dash range drops from 5.5 to 5 tiles. Supercell says an earlier fix made him target the edge of a card's collision radius instead of its center, which gave him extra reach, so the range cut compensates.
Do balance changes affect Evolutions and Hero forms?
Usually, yes. Supercell's post says that "most of the time, base form changes also affect a card's Evolution and Hero forms." Some changes in this update are specific to one form, such as the Cannon Evolution barrage nerf and the Hero Ice Wizard freeze damage nerf.
Why did Royal Ghost get both a nerf and a buff?
The hitpoint cut (1210 to 1152) is a balance nerf because Royal Ghost had spread into bait and cycle decks. The 1% damage increase (261 to 263) is a bug fix for a Level 16 interaction against Electro Wizard, not compensation.
Final Take
The October 2026 update is Supercell spreading the meta out. The efficient defensive core of the last season (Evo Cannon, Barbarian Barrel, Skeletons) gets trimmed, the season's new cards get pulled back again, and a long list of older win conditions gets a push. The cleanest winner is Wall Breakers, which gets stronger while its cheapest counter gets weaker. The most interesting change is Elixir Collector, which gives you the same total elixir but makes you wait longer for it. Spend a few friendly battles testing Golden Knight and Collector timings, then pick one of the buffed win conditions and climb while everyone else is still figuring out Shocktober.
