Battlefield 6 Season 5: Siege of Las Vegas starts on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, and EA has put out a lot of official detail this week. The season drops the war into Nevada with two launch maps, Vegas Strip and Area 51, four new weapons, a faster battle royale mode called Rapid Royale in REDSEC, a limited-time Dead Space event, and a calendar that runs through the Frozen Aces update on December 8. This guide sorts what is officially confirmed from what is still unannounced, because some of the early press coverage got ahead of EA.

Everything below that is not labeled otherwise comes from EA and Battlefield Studios: the Season 5 roadmap (October 9), the developer map guide for Vegas Strip and Area 51 (October 9), the Rapid Royale mode guide (October 9), EA's Battlefield 6 hub (6 new weapons figure), the community update (September 30), Looking Ahead to Season 5 and Beyond (October 1), the EA press release (October 9), and EA's competitive REDSEC post (September 8). Third-party sites are named where we use them. EA says its plans are subject to change, so check the launch-day update notes.

  • Year 2: EA describes Season 5 as the start of Year 2 for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. The game turns one year old this October.
  • What is free: REDSEC is a free-to-play experience. EA's 2026 roadmap page describes the year's updates as free for Battlefield 6 owners and for REDSEC.
  • What EA has not given: an exact launch hour, a time zone, or a download size, in the official posts we found.

Release Date, Time and Platforms

EA's roadmap states the date plainly: "Starting October 13, you'll fight across two new maps, drop into Rapid Royale, and get your hands on a fresh arsenal of weapons." The season arrives for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the platforms EA lists for the game.

There is no official start time in the posts we checked. EA's Season 5 hub, the roadmap, the community update and the press release all give a date and no hour. ScreenHacker's Season 5 rundown reports the same gap. Plan for a rolling update on October 13, and watch the official Battlefield and BattlefieldComm accounts, which EA names as the place for live updates.

EA also says the full update notes are published the day before the season goes live, which puts them on Monday, October 12. That is the document to read for exact weapon, vehicle and class numbers.

Price and editions: EA's buy page lists Battlefield 6 on the EA app starting from $69.99, with a Standard Edition and a Phantom Edition. We saw that page on October 10, and prices vary by store and region. REDSEC is separate and free to download.

Before Launch: What to Do Now

EA has not published a preload window or a Season 5 download size that we could find, so this checklist is practical advice, with the official facts marked.

  • Free disk space. EA's buy page lists base-game requirements of 55 GiB on HDD (minimum) and 80 GiB on SSD (recommended) for PC. Those are base-game figures. A season patch adds to that, and EA has not said by how much.
  • Turn on auto-update on your console or launcher so the patch can download before you sit down.
  • Read the update notes on Monday, October 12. EA says they cover the full weapon-by-weapon breakdown and the balance changes.
  • Play Gauntlet now if you want to. EA says Gauntlet leaves Battlefield 6 and the active REDSEC lineup on October 13.
  • Use the trial to bring a friend in. The Full Game Trial runs October 15 to 19 on PlayStation and Steam. Details are in the FAQ below.
  • Team up early. Platoons are not in until December 8, so for now squads are the way to play together.

The Two Launch Maps

EA says Season 5 has three Las Vegas maps in total, with two ready at launch and the third arriving later. Both launch maps also join Portal as Verified Portal Experiences at the start of the season, with support for Custom Experiences coming later in the season.

Vegas Strip

EA describes Vegas Strip as a dense urban battlefield of casinos, luxury hotel interiors, crowded streets and underground storm drains, with helicopters weaving between skyscrapers and armored vehicles in the streets below. The developer guide names four objective areas.

  • Olympus Pools. An infantry-focused objective built on vertical combat. EA says you can enter through the valet area, push through staff entrances, or use ziplines to reach the rooftop and drop through the collapsed dome.
  • Crater and Storm Drains. A massive crater at the center of the Strip, surrounded by the wreckage of a destroyed PAX convoy. Above ground it is exposed streets and debris. Underneath, storm drains and tunnels give tight corridors and a safer route through the middle.
  • Karat Plaza. A public square with fountains and vegetation. A destructible casino sign sits at the center and changes how the area plays once it comes down. Most fights are at medium range.
  • Art Deco. A battle-damaged hotel with a collapsed interior full of rubble. Infantry fight room to room, and ground vehicles pressure the area around the objective.
The team says the hardest design problem was balancing infantry and vehicles, since the Strip itself is a wide-open space that vehicles can use. Alternate routes, interior spaces, rooftops and ziplines are the answer to that.

Developer tips from EA:

  • Recon players can provide intel for squads moving through contested areas.
  • Helicopters can use the skyline to reposition and attack from unexpected angles.
  • Do not charge straight down the Strip. Use cover, alternate routes and squad support.
  • Secure rooftops and upper floors before pushing an objective.
  • The destroyed PAX convoy gives cover in the center of the map.

Area 51

Area 51 mixes large-scale military combat above ground with a hidden underground facility beneath the Nevada desert. EA says tanks, helicopters and jets fight across the dry lakebed and surrounding mountains, while infantry squads fight through tunnels, laboratories and classified research spaces below. The roadmap calls the map's heart a massive crater leading into a classified facility with tight corridors and close-quarters combat.

The developer guide lists these objective areas.

  • The Comms Area. A hilltop communications building and parking lot with strong defender sightlines and aerial combat overhead.
  • Crash Site. A downed aircraft on a roadway that turns into a major vehicle combat zone, with nearby hangars for infantry to challenge armor.
  • Helipad. An overwatch position built into the mountainside, popular for Recon and useful for anti-air.
  • The Crater. The center of the infantry experience: a network of tunnels, garages, abandoned laboratories and defensive positions. EA says three objectives are packed into this area, so it is constant close-quarters fighting.
  • Aircraft Control Tower. A tower that changes over the match. At the start, the upper floors are a sniper nest. Bring it down and the fight shifts to the rubble.
  • Climate Testing Hangars. The Hot Climate Hangar is infantry versus armored vehicles around a central platform. The Cold Climate Hangar is an infantry-heavy test facility filled with experimental aircraft.
Developer tips from EA:
  • Recon can use the towers, ridgelines and elevated positions to support several objectives.
  • Engineers are especially valuable for slowing armored pushes and defending objectives.
  • Pilots should use the surrounding mountain range when moving.
  • The Aircraft Control Tower is one of the most important objectives. Securing it early helps control the surrounding area, and bringing it down can force both teams to adapt.
  • Keep pressure on the underground objectives. Holding the crater network gives a strong foothold in the center.
The ELR-40 sniper rifle fits this map by design, since EA says its bullet drag and sweet spot suit Area 51's open sightlines.

New Weapons

EA's roadmap lists four weapons available at launch. EA's Season 5 hub says there are 6 new weapons in the season, so two more are still unnamed.

WeaponTypeWhat EA says
Mk 24Assault rifleLower-capacity AR that trades magazine size for consistent performance and exceptional damage at range, with a steady rate of fire
RSPRSubmachine gunAn SMG with rifle characteristics: steady rate of fire and high damage, but a smaller magazine and heavier recoil. Sits between the SG 553R and SCW-10 in performance
Z84MLight machine gun100-round box magazine, high damage and high rate of fire for close-range aggression, with significant recoil and handling trade-offs
ELR-40Bolt-action sniper rifleBest bullet drag in its archetype and the furthest sweet spot, suited to Area 51's open sightlines. A custom single-shot ammo option shifts the sweet spot to close range

EA's community update says the full weapon-by-weapon breakdown is coming in the update notes, so exact damage values and attachment details were not public at the time of writing. One related point from EA's October 1 post: the team is addressing the REDSEC meta with forthcoming changes for the KTS100 Mk8, SCW-10, SVDM, SG553R and KV9, so some of your current favorites may change as the new guns arrive.

Balance and Gameplay Changes

EA grouped its Season 5 changes into vehicles, gunplay and Battle Royale. In the October 1 post EA describes these as changes it is "currently exploring," and the community update on September 30 covers the same ground. Both say final numbers come with the update notes.

Vehicles and anti-vehicle play

  • Armored vehicles: adjustments to health regeneration, directional damage and weak spots, so positioning and where you hit a vehicle matter more.
  • Anti-air: mobile AA cannons become more effective against aircraft, and laser designators require more consistent target tracking to hold a lock.
  • Little Bird: less splash damage against infantry.
  • Tanks and missiles: secondary turrets get a higher rate of fire (and overheat faster), Main Battle Tank munitions are tuned to suit their intended targets, and missiles get a balance pass across the board.
  • Resupply: air vehicle resupply pad cooldowns become vehicle-class specific, so a jet can resupply right after a helicopter without waiting for a shared timer.
  • Anti-vehicle tools: EA names updates to aim-guided missiles, the M15 AV Mine and the PTKM-1R.

Battle Royale class training and weapons

EA's October 1 post lists new training path upgrades for all four classes, and removes the Drone Specialist and Hazmat Breacher alternate training paths.

ClassSeason 5 training path changes EA lists (Battle Royale)
AssaultLevel 1: less movement penalty when firing while moving. Level 2: passive regen starts 50% faster with 50% better healing; revive sickness recovery cut by 50%. Level 3: High Explosive Launcher blasts create 5 fused submunitions
EngineerLevel 1: 33% more resistance to explosive damage. Level 2: armor replating 33% faster. Level 3: Aim-Guided Launcher hits immobilize vehicles for 5s
SupportLevel 1: better weapon control from mounted positions. Level 2: drag downed soldiers 20% faster, revive 2.5s quicker, sprint 10% faster under heavy fire. Level 3: reviving applies an armor plate; Deployable Cover spawns a lootable plate
ReconLevel 1: damaging enemies spots them. Level 2: downing an enemy spots others within 25m for 5s. Level 3: Handheld Jammer disrupts Redeploy Points and Mobile Redeploys in its radius

On weapons, EA lists one extra bullet to kill against armor in specific ranges for several categories: 10mm and 9mm PDWs past 9 meters; .300 BLK carbines and 7.62x39mm PDWs, carbines and ARs within 31 meters; 5.56x45mm and 5.45x39mm ARs and LMGs past 46 meters; and 7.62mm DMRs past 21 meters, which also no longer deal improved headshot damage to downed enemies. Armor plating is 20% faster across all classes, and several class-locked gadgets move into the loot pool.

REDSEC: Rapid Royale, Reconnect and Playlist Changes

What Rapid Royale is

EA's mode guide describes Rapid Royale as a 36-player battle royale in Trios and Solos, with matches designed to last roughly 10 to 13 minutes. It uses the same foundation as REDSEC Battle Royale, with smaller combat spaces, faster-moving circles, reduced player counts and shorter matches.

  • Maps: at launch, players deploy on the Vegas Strip and Mirak Valley, with Area 51 arriving later in the season. EA says more maps join the rotation in future seasons.
  • Faster start: no intro cinematic, lower insertion height, and deployment aircraft clustered closer together.
  • Loot: armor is more plentiful, ammo pickups give more resources, and loot density is higher. Chests refresh midway through the match.
  • Intel Cases: every eliminated soldier drops one, granting XP toward your Field Upgrades. You do not need the elimination to collect it.
  • No tanks or IFVs. Other vehicles may appear depending on the map.

Redeploy Tokens and Ordnance Drops

Redeploy Tokens are earned through squad eliminations and can be found as rare loot. In Trios they are a shared squad resource: when a squadmate is eliminated, a token opens a redeploy window so they can return. In Solos a token grants a single redeployment. Tokens get harder to earn as the match goes on and are disabled entirely in the final circles, which makes every late elimination permanent.

Ordnance Drops deliver some of the best loot in the match, including Custom Weapons, Call-ins, Armor, Ammo, Redeploy Tokens and Battle Pickups. Their locations are telegraphed so squads can reposition and contest them.

EA's five tips boil down to this: stay in the fight, press eliminations to earn tokens, chase Ordnance Drops, destroy strong enemy positions instead of attacking them head on, and slow down once tokens are gone.

Playlist changes you should know about

  • Gauntlet is removed from the active playlist lineup in Season 5. EA says it represented a much smaller share of REDSEC play and made matches hard to fill. EA leaves the door open for a return.
  • The Battle Royale Solos and Duos rotation ends at the start of Season 5. EA says Duos are planned to return later in the season, and its current direction is to rotate Rapid Royale Solos with BR Duos.
  • Reconnect lets you rejoin an active match after a disconnect.
  • Recommended Drop Zones (casual BR only) guide newcomers toward suggested POIs that avoid immediate squad conflict. EA's October 1 post lists this among changes it is exploring, so confirm it in the update notes.
  • The Phantom Program stays active beyond Season 4.
  • Portal: water support expands to Sandbox and all REDSEC maps, and the Crashed Carrier POI becomes available for builders.

Ranked and Competitive REDSEC

EA's roadmap says Season 5 brings a new Ranked BR season and the arrival of REDSEC's Open Series, with the Elite Series coming later. For Battlefield 6 multiplayer, Leaderboards are listed as a new way to track progress, and the roadmap gives no separate date for them.

CompetitionDatesKey details (EA, Sept 8 post)
Season 4 Cash CupsSep 19 - Oct 10Four single-elimination weekend tournaments, $150,000 globally ($50,000 per region); Cash Cup #4 is on Oct 10 with a $25,000 pool
Open SeriesOct 24 - Nov 21Three two-day regional cups of up to 384 teams per region, then a 24-team Match Point final on Nov 21. Elite slots: Americas 15, EMEA 15, APAC 24
Elite SeriesDec 4 - Jan 16, 202748 teams per region, six regular-season match days, Season Finals Jan 16. $1,338,000 global pool, $446,000 per region. Battle Royale only

How Ranked BR works, per EA's help article (last updated about a month before this writing, so check it for Season 5 changes): matches are 25 squads of four, you need at least Career Rank 5, and there are seven ranks from Rookie to Master. PC and console are matched separately, and a mixed squad queues in PC matchmaking. EA also said it has updated Ranked matchmaking bands to better align players within their intended rank ranges, and that change is already live.

Registration for the Open Series and Elite Series runs through register.battlefieldesports.com, per EA. Conditions and restrictions apply under EA's official rules.

The Dead Space Event

EA's press release dates the crossover: October 20 to November 7. It describes a limited-time scenario in which Pax Armata pursues secret tech hidden beneath Area 51 that will be familiar to fans of Dead Space. EA calls it a non-canon celebration of Dead Space that includes environmental spaces adapted from the 2023 remake and unique cosmetics players can unlock.

The roadmap names it the Convergence Event. In its words, soldiers uncover a mysterious Marker hidden deep in the facility, its influence begins to spread, and "more details will be revealed as the event draws closer." That means the following are not yet official: the exact start time on October 20, the mode rules, the rewards list and enemy details. ScreenHacker describes it as a cooperative PvE experience and notes that datamined details are circulating. We are not repeating leaks.

Later in Season 5

Casino Heist, November 10

Phase 2 brings a limited-time event named Casino Heist and the third map, the European Casino. EA's press release calls it one of the grandest casinos on the strip, with secrets coveted by both PAX and NATO. The roadmap describes an infantry-focused, close-quarters map with destructible elements that open new pathways. EA says more detail comes closer to launch.

Frozen Aces, December 8

Phase 3 adds a chill to Las Vegas. EA's roadmap lists Operation High Roller, the highly requested Platoons and Server Browser, updated versions of Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City, new weapons and gear, and the B-81 Cavalry. EA's press release says the new Operation plays across both the Vegas Strip and Area 51.

Where Press Coverage and EA Disagree

Early write-ups, including ScreenHacker's Oct 10 summary, are useful but mix confirmed items with items that EA places later in the season or has not named.

Claim in press coverageWhat EA's own posts say
Six new weapons at launchEA's Season 5 hub says 6 new weapons for the season. The roadmap names four available at launch. Frozen Aces adds more "new weapons, gear" with no names yet
Two new vehiclesThe only new vehicle EA names is the B-81 Cavalry, listed under Frozen Aces on December 8. We found no second vehicle in EA's posts
Operation High Roller as a headline Season 5 additionEA lists Operation High Roller under Frozen Aces on December 8, and the press release says it plays across both Vegas Strip and Area 51
Platoons and Server Browser as season additionsEA lists both under Frozen Aces on December 8. The September 30 community update only said Server Browser comes later in the season
Dead Space event as PvEThe roadmap calls it the Convergence Event, and the press release calls it a limited-time scenario. Neither uses the word PvE. Treat PvE as reported, not confirmed in those two documents

Does Battlefield 6 have cross-play?

Yes. EA's help page says cross-play is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and it is on by default. Console matchmaking prioritizes other console players, and console players are matched with PC players only if there are not enough on console. REDSEC players can squad with Battlefield 6 players across supported platforms, though Ranked matches PC and console separately.

Final Take

Season 5 is a big content season on paper, and EA has been unusually specific about the dates. The part to watch is not the launch day but the cadence: Vegas Strip and Area 51 on October 13, the Dead Space event on October 20, the Casino map on November 10, and Operation High Roller with Platoons and Server Browser on December 8. The most important open question is still the plain one, the launch hour, so keep auto-update on and read the October 12 update notes before you drop in.
